  • This darling Victorian needed some love! About 30 years ago, somebody poured a lot of concrete and asphalt around it and got rid of all of the original gardens and plantings. The new owners wanted to bring her back to life, tie it into the neighborhood, and also make it exceptionally unique. This video walks you through the early stages of preparing her for the transformation~ stay tuned for the next Episodes to see how it all turned out!!

    Jack, as someone who absolutely loves landscape design, this inspires me so much. I enjoy seeing the "before" for these projects as much as the reveal. I love to hear the reasoning behind each decision and the problem-solving solutions to keep the project looking great for years to come. 💚

    It’s nice to see someone who cares enough to have forward thinking concerning the Sugar maples. Unfortunately, many landscapers would recommend removing those trees instead of working around them. There seems to be a war against large trees anymore with most homeowners. I also love the way you are making accommodations for access to the home’s foundation. I hate it when someone installs new landscaping and leaves dirt all over the foundation. It looks sloppy and not finished. Thanks Jack!

    Interesting on the tree roots! Wonderful the Funeral Home is willing to work "with you and neighbor", to make this work cohesively as well as the City with sidewalk! It pays to be You, Jack! 🙌 It will be outstanding, and I look forward to seeing how beautiful the completion will be in due time! 🥂 Cheers!

    oh yay!!!! i've been catching this on your reels and was hoping it would make it's way in long form on youtube. the details for the walk are so fresh. the scribing of stone to fit within the roots is such a high touch feature. while i wish you posted more content, the projects you undertake are monumental. your clients receive landscape commissions that are nothing short of fine art. thanks jack!

    Oh boy can’t wait to see the progress it sounds great, too bad they couldn’t put up a block wall on the funeral property for privacy I wouldn’t want to share my flower bed with theirs -my opinion.

    Sounds like an exciting project. On a side note, is that really a Victorian house? Looks more like a 4 Square Craftsman to me. I'll be watching for more videos!

    • @JensCPetersen
      @JensCPetersen Год назад +1

      You're correct. it's not a "Victorian" house. It was built in 1907 for George Raff and designed by local architect Jens C. Petersen.

    It all sounds lovely, but Jack, why renovate the driveway prior to construction in the back yard? It would seem it’d take a beating from the equipment that’d be used.

    • @JackBarnwellDesign
      @JackBarnwellDesign  Год назад +1

      There is access to the back yard from the alley- so- nothing will have to go through the front for any of that~~~

    Those maples are beautiful, but they kill the rest of my parent's garden. Not only the grass, even if we try to re-seed (which we spent thousands doing), but every couple of years the topical roots creep over about 20 feet to choke all the plants and shrubs along the house wall. Literally killing the rest of the garden. How do you stop that from happening, without trenching? Unfortunately we can't get rid of the trees because they are planted on the city side of the neighborhood brick wall. Ugh.
