      I think this is happening to me as well.
      Several of the more intense games I play crash randomly.

      Totally random and I couldn't understand why.

    mine was failing for nearly a year, every now and again it would crash, fans would spin but wouldnt boot up. never suspected the psu was the problem (because the fans would spin, i would expect no power at all, plus it worked fine a lot of the time)
    but boy were they spot on with the warranty, just a bit over the 5 years covered and it failed.

    Wanted to add one more symptom that happened to me, spent 2 months and nearly $2k trying to figure it out. Computer would randomly restart, now what I mean by that, is that the PC acts as if you walked up to it and just shut it off using the main switch on the psu on the back. It would happen regardless of what the computer was doing or whatever load it was under, just random. Ended up after changing things out and swapping everything and consulting a lot of IT guys that I knew, the power supply that I had (both Platinum rated and expensive) was just bad after 2-3 years. It happens. Problem free now.

      @Pernoctate Год назад +2

      Another cause of that sort of behavior could be leaking capacitors on the motherboard. You can visually examine them and if you see corrosion on top, that's pretty much the end of the board unless you can do surface mount repair for multilayer boards.

    My 600W PSU just died today.. it started off earlier this week when I was playing the game … out of no where my fans went 100% and the monitor display turned off. Then it happened again when I did a little bang on the desk. I ended up smelling the burning smell when I tried to fix my LED lights in the front of my case, I plugged it in & I heard a pop, it had shut off. I unplugged the led lights & turned the PC on, it was a delay and when it came on i smelled a burning smell so I instantly shut off the power switch then unplugged the cable. I smelled around my PC just to make sure it wasn’t the MB because that was my first thought. I confirmed by unplugging the cord & going to another socket & trying to turn my PC on and it was a few seconds late coming on, it came on then shut off came on again & that’s when i decided it was my PSU. Lucky it didn’t take out my 2070S & i7 9700k along with the ram

    Here's a thought that will help you understand how little most people understand electronics, including me. I keep hearing the name "power supply" being thrown about and how it might have gone bad. I kinda thought the "power supply" was that lil' ol' wall socket that we plug our computer into. It's supplying the power, isn't it? It turns out my "power supply" had actually gone bad and a smart friend of mine picked one up at Best Buy for $35 and installed it. I still don't know what it does, but I was happy to just keep pulling Hamiltons out of my wallet to drop into his lap as payment for the "thing" and his services. Maybe you should have started this video with an explanation of what a power supply is and what it does and why we shouldn't eat it for breakfast.

      Power supply unit (PSU) takes power from the wall (220V or 110V and turns it into power that PC components can use (12V and less). But a 35$ PSU from Best Buy is not gonna be the best option. A PSU that cheap can't be good quality

    Good information for end users. The first about 8 minutes he says be sure to plug it in and turn it on. The rest of the time, he's telling you to use a tester. They aren't perfect but you will get a basic idea of output from them. I was hoping to learn something about how many milliseconds a given power supply can stay on if the power is dropped. For example, would 30 milliseconds cause a failure.

    Thanks for this I'm new to pc and I'm pretty sure my psu is the culprit. My specs are as follows HP OMEN - 30L Gaming Desktop - AMD Ryzen 7-Series - 3700X - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 - 1TB HDD + 256GB SSD - PSU HP Cooler Master 500W 80 plus bronze. I'm positive it's my pus because it won't even turn on and I was having complete shutdowns. What would cause a brand new psu to fail? Is 500w not enough for the GPU and The processor?

    • @ITProTv
      @ITProTv  3 года назад +2

      The power requirements for your build can be found by checking the vendor's specifications for each component and then adding up the total wattage needed, however this total is the bare minimum for the PSU. I try to go with 25% more wattage that the minimum to ensure that the system is powered correctly. The second part of that question is can a brand new PSU failing and that is a possibility. Make sure that you check the main 24 pin power connector to the motherboard and do not confuse the 8 pin PCIe power connectors with the ATX/EPS 8 pin CPU connector. If you have integrated video (built into the motherboard) then you can remove the graphics card and configure the BIOS/UEFI to use the motherboard's integrated graphics. If you computer boots then the problem could be with either the power to the graphics card or card itself.

    PSU errors can also cause BIOS issued where the BIOS won't boot and it the gives you the choice to set the default settings. This is due to a bad OC or a slight change in volts for RAM, OCs or non OCs but just getting say ram speed to be stable at a certain speed.
    I have a OCZ fatality 750w Mod it's 10 years old it was in a 2600k rig from then, now it's powering. Ryzen 3600, RX 580 8GB im not having power issues but I am considering in buying a new one as it would modern new tech and better technology. Don't know which brand though

PSUs can really be tricky, that day I did CPU, GPU stress test and everything worked just fine, I even did Ram check and nothing. I also noticed for a couple of months before this happened that my startup to windows was way slower, only in the morning after it was shut of a long time. I guess it's better if I change it now so I won't get any problems later. thanks!

I noticed that when I click the power button, it gets power for like half a second and turns off, then turns itself back on and it tries to enter post several times [Like memory training] then it goes into bios with reset Status.

      Hi Ryan, this could be a PSU issue, memory improperly seated, or main power connector not seated correctly. The best way to tell is to find out if there is any POST beep codes, on screen POST errors. You could also get an ATX Universal PSU tester to confirm that the PSU connectors are giving the right voltages.

    My box is about 2 months old. I had it running in my house until about 2 weeks ago. Then I moved it to my studio and it wouldn't start. PSU stopped working. Could be because I plugged it into a power conditioner that was plugged into a 220v socket. I'm expat in Brasil, so I learned that lesson. The plug doesn't fit the 110v sockets and fits the 220v, but it's actually 127v. Burnt a few things... anyway, I replaced the PSU and the computer would not boot. A few days of tinkering and I took it to a shop. They said PSU is bad. Weird because its 3 days old. Returned that new PSU and was given another in its place. Plugged it in last night and pc starts right up and everything works fine. Shut down for the night, returned this morning amd computer doesn't start. No fan spinning at all. There's a blue power light on the motherboard but the red light doesn't light up when I hit the power button. I'm guessing the new PSU is bad too. Both were the same brand. In all my years running music studios and building computers I have never experienced that with PSUs. So, I will go buy a different brand from a different store and see what happens. My anxiety will be off the charts every day walking in and not knowing if the computer won't start. Hopefully I can get this resolved.

    I just upgraded an Optiplex 9020, and replaced the old 290W PSU with a modern 650W unit... yes, I used a 24 to 8 pin adapter... but after I had everything assembled (RAM, SSD, GPU) and turned on the PSU switch, literally nothing happened. It was as if I hadn't even plugged it in (yes, of course I had). I checked all my connections, and everything seemed in order. I even swapped out the adaptor (I'd bought two, just in case)... still nothing.
    I'm stumped. 😒😒😒

Was thinking it's pcie slot but read somewhere that flashing CPU cooler led might be a sign of an unstable PSU. Do you have any ideas? I don't have any other PSU to check :/

    • @ITProTv
      @ITProTv  3 года назад +3

      You will need to test the PSU to verify that this is not the issue, I suspect it is not as you can power the old card, which means that the system is most likely being underpowered. If this is the situation you might need a PSU with greater wattage. However, another possibility is that the new card is bad, shorting out or overheating and needs to be replaced. You can get a Thermaltake Universal ATX PSU tester for fairly cheap and test all the connectors on the PSU. See here: www.cdw.com/product/thermaltake-dr.-power-ii-atx-power-supply-tester/2546935?pfm=srh

      If the PSU is failing you might get the following symptoms: reboots, reboots specifically to resource intensive applications being launched and or BSODs. Now in fairness to your poor old PSU this could be a direct result of failing memory or storage device. Check Event Viewer and more specifically the System Logs for any Warning, Error or Critical level events.

      Currently dealing with the same thing. I have an A8-7680 CPU and RX-560 (no pin version) GPU that i just bought. I have an old 700 watt PSU (prolly 10 years old) and when I installed the new GPU mentioned, when playing a game, my MOBO overheats and at first, there's a plastic burning smell coming out of my CPU specially around the PSU and then my PC shuts off while the LED lights of every components still on. I'm guessing the old PSU is the culprit so I ordered a brand new CPU and will be delivered anytime today.

    PC will hang and crash while gaming or shortly after a session of gaming. It seems to be with a very intensive title such as Witcher 3 or Baldur's Gate 3. It does record the error which is a volmgr event followed by a Kernel 41 critical event. The system is a RTX 2060 Super with an AMD Ryzen 5700G a SoundBlaster AE-5 with an SSD boot drive and an HDD Data drive for my games. It's powered by a 650watt Gold rating supply a full modular one. The system is only about a year old as I built it last December. Sometimes the PC will boot without recognizing my keyboard. Unplugging and plugging it back in seems to solve that issue. But the other issue could possibly be the main board, but I would think that if it was that it would do it at any time not just when I am gaming.
