Jinjer is one of the most talented bands on the planet. They don't have a single bad song to their name. Just be aware, Pisces and Wallflower are two of the mellowest songs they have. The large majority of their music is much heavier than this. But, it's all good. Great songs to check out next, Vortex omv, Teacher Teacher omv, Perennial live at Wacken, Pit of Consciousness Live in Kiev, I Speak Astronomy omv.
This song, in addition to being about her being a real big introvert off stage is also about the band pressuring her to get her lyrics done for the album when she just wanted to chill and be alone (hence her shooting at the band). It also shows how they write songs. The music is done first and she procrastinates on the lyrics sometimes until the day before recording the vocals. Given that they do a lot of time changes that ends up being a testament to how she can weave her vocals into the time changes when the rest of the band has no idea most of the time what they are going to sound like until they are recorded. In my opinion there are just a few songs where maybe that technique was a bit of a miss but not in any of their very popular songs and no system of doing that is perfect. Jinjer spends way more time on the road than they do in the studio.
I couldn’t have said it better. Tatiana’s voice is one of the instruments, and it amazes me that she can deliver such unifying and catalytic vocals on such short notice. On some songs (the chorus of Judgement & Punishment comes to mind) her voice is what holds the meter together as the rest of them play around with odd accents and offbeat stuff. Usually there’s some sick bass playing going on in those parts.
Here's Eugene's playthrough... ruclips.net/video/mlmSjbfeZIk/видео.html In the video, there's a direct correlation to the pressure she felt for procrastinating lyric writing for the album to the last second. Her bandmates pursue her, pressure her. The bullets (sharp words) at them do nothing, but then she sees the wolves on the wall, realizes her defensive anger and her over-reaction in a situation she created ("turning mole hills into mountains"), and throws "her art" (metaphor for the lyrics they want) at the band and they go away. The wolf story (below) is critical to understanding her internal conflicts as displayed by the wolf art. White Wolf, Black Wolf: A Cherokee Story Inside you lives a wolf of white- of patience, peace and love. He is forgiveness, hope and light; a blessing from above. This wolf of white the world will see through all the good he brings to thee. _____This wolf of white, _____this wolf of white, his gifts will set your spirit free. A wolf of black, as dark as night lives next to him inside. He’s hatred, rage, cruelty, fright, intolerance and pride. This wolf of black the world will see through evil actions, evil deeds. _____This wolf of black, _____this wolf of black, his teeth will make your spirit bleed. Within your soul, the two wolves fight to see which one will give directions and will win the right to show you how to live. Which one will win the fight? We need to pay attention; pay close heed! _____Which one will win? _____Which one will win depends upon which one we feed.
For something completely different from "Wallflower", try "Ape" official music video (for the full musical experience) followed by Eugene's bass playthrough. "Ape" is a 3 1/2 minute "heavy jazz" songs which moves absolutely seamlessly through 8 highly distinct movements., showcasing the range of Tatiana & the rest of the band beautifully, all within the context of a very heavy song.
Eugene had said "cloud factory" is one he has to practice alot. * offical video if you do it. * otherwise , " on the top" " pit of consciousness " " just another ", I speak astronomy " . They play much harder stuff than Wall flowers. My favorite band on the planet, I have seen them twice live , met them twice , and I'm here for every one of their songs you do. Also all the guys have single instrument play throughs of each instrument.
Jinjer has some of the coolest sounding mixes of modern metal. She sings awesome, and her harsh vocals are amazing AF as well. The guitar riffs and basslines are literally perfect for what they are doing. People are all crazy about Spiritbox, but these guys, IMO, are WAY better. Eugene's note choices and his articulation really brings me back to these guys very often. Sick video, Mark! You should check out the band, Gorod. Either the song Hina, or Transcendence. These are my 2 favorite songs by them, and they GROOVE really hard.
Roman's guitar is a OD Venus (OD Guitars designed and built by Omer Deutsch). Eugene btw. also plays his signature model Achilles 5 by Overload guitars.
@@Janokins if you like the heavier side of things, try homeback... if you like jazzy non metal try beggar's dance, if you want crazy riffage look up roman's GUITAR playthrough of words of wisdom, if you want a banger with everything I speak astronomy, and if you want a simpler straight forward structure of a metal song that still kicks ass try their early OUTLANDER
Every person in this band is S-tier! Master musicians!! They all know how and when to turn it on as well as keep it simple!! Vortex is my favorite song of theirs!!
I got to tell you, you will not be disappointed with any song you hear. They are that good, and Ugen is an amazing base player. Can't wait for more of your reactions to them..
this is exactly the reason for me that i love this band jinjer more than anything, they are unique in the mass of bands out there. I myself have been a musician in various musical genres for over 40 years, but not in this one as far as Jinjer is concerned, and yet I am absolutely thrilled...! thanx for your reaction and do yourself a favor and check out more of this band. > maybe: JINJER - Teacher, Teacher! (Official Video) | Napalm Records warm greetings from germany
Eugene has several playthroughs here on YT...but I love his silly side demonstrated in his playthrough of their song "Beggar's Dance." - all the two-handed tapping you could want in that one!
Beggars dance is so epic and so is the playthrough. Super short outro track from King Of Everything so you could easily do a double feature if you want. I'm not greedy! I'd add that the Home Back horror playthrough is funny too. Talk about cognitive dissonance laughing while listening to Home Back though... :(
Wow, one of my favorite bassists reacting to a song with one of my favorite bassists!! I discovered this band a couple of years ago and haven't been this excited about a band since Scale The Summit!! You're absolutely right about their compositional skills. So much thought and attention to detail. While completely different in style, they have so much in common with Rush, or at least I think. If you plan on doing another Jinjer song, I'll add another recommendation for Vortex, also from the Wallflowers album, but perhaps do a two-fer, with Eugene's bass playthrough. For the Wallflowers album, he incorporated a bit more overdrive than on previous albums, which will be noticed on the playthrough. Another RUclips reactor said Stas Pokotillo (sp) is a former Fodera luthier. This is the second custom bass he's made for Eugene. Jinjer's tuning has been Drop A for the past four releases (Wallflowers, Macro, Micro (EP) and King of Everything). Earlier stuff is Drop C. Eugene also does some cool stuff in Perennial, which is on display in the Live at Wacken 2019 version. Jinjer is always mixed so well, you can pick any instrument to focus on and easily tell what's being played. Yours and his bass tones are some of the best I've ever heard. Dang, I could go on and on about Jinjer, but I'll let you discover and enjoy.
Every member of this band is so insanely talented. Saw them live in Toronto and was astounded by how close their live performance is to the album's. All so great, can't say enough good things.
7:27 that weird little guitar part is one of the things that make this band so special. They are really good at adding waltzy and swing feels to this kinda stuff and doing it in a sneaky way
Make sure that if / when you turn to check out the albums you check Micro (EP) alongside Macro... they are totally "of a piece" (not that Jinjer fans would let you overlook Micro when it has "Perennial" and "Teacher Teacher" on it ) Lovely to hear a bass specialist go in on Jinjer, it's usually drum teachers and vocal coaches
I'm happy that you didn't do "another" pisces reaction. I'm not a heavy Jinjer listener, but one thing which I love about this band is the "controlled chaos". They like to start slow, gently and after some build-up they go to the heavy stuff which is often a "wtf" moment for me. Many things happen instrumentally, it feels like they do some "random" tempo changes, play "strange" accords, but everything fits together and ofc it's super intense :)
Great Reaction! Jinjer is a genre unto themselves! Truly master level musicians and performers! I hope you continue with this amazing band, every song is different and all of them feature some awesome basslines!
It’s cool to see you getting a taste of Eugene’s playing. He’s one of those new breed of seriously high end prog bassists that are just so fun to listen to. 🤘🏻
Such a fun reaction! When I first heard this band like 5 years ago I only watched reaction videos based on Tatiana’s voice it was fun seeing the shocked expressions. Now however after becoming a true fan of this incredible band I’m more interested in reaction videos from musicians bc what they are doing is so fresh, unique and technical and I love when musicians breakdown their songs bc it just goes to show that they aren’t just a carnival act but a true force coming into their own!!! Subbed just to hopefully watch you react to more of their catalogue
Damn I had to edit this reaction even more bc you keep bringing this up that I have been saying forever and I couldn’t put my finger on it. I dislike most metalcore bands that switch up the vocals and my complain is/was always that the music always seemed to lose heaviness and I thought maybe it was just because it was more natural coming from a female but it’s the music that stays heavy bc of the way they set it up. That’s makes so much sense to me! Btw if you can’t tell I’m NOT a musician but I never could explain why I love her change ups and hate so many other (primarily male lead vocalists) bands who switch up vocals.
Oh ya, that's a sub. Lots of great bass work in Jinjer's repertoire. For something completely different from this song, try "Ape" official music video for the full musical experience followed by Eugene's bass playthrough. "Ape" is a 3 1/2 minute "heavy jazz" song which moves absolutely seamlessly through 8 highly distinct movements, showcasing the range of Tatiana & the rest of the band beautifully, all within the context of a very heavy song.
You could check the intro to "who's going to be the one" live at Kiev where Eugene does wonders in sort of a freestyle, or the mystifying middle part of "perennial" live at Wacken
Eugene has a lot of great bass playthroughs. Vortex has him about as high in the mix as he is in the studio version but the focus is obviously 100% on his playing. Who Is Gonna Be The One is all him and drums low in the mix if you really want to focus in, or maybe a double feature with the official live and playthrough since it seems like you are especiallyinterestedhow the bass fits into everything else in the composition. Judgement & Punishment vocal one take and bass playthrough would be another great double feature option, as would Pit Of Consciousness live in Kiev (now Kyiv) and the playthrough.
Finally finally someone doing a reaction to their best song. Well...all of their songs are soooo great! Every band member brings that "something" to the music which is one of the reasons i love Jinjer
I get to see her live in August! I can’t wait!!! She’s a badass!!! You’ll love Judgment & Punishment and the bass in Who’s Gonna Be The One is amazing!
Great reaction/review. Additional Jinjer songs I'd recommend are.... Perennial (live from Wacken 2019 video), Teacher, Teacher (official video), Vortex (official video), I Speak Astronomy (official video...older song with their previous drummer, but great song and video), Who Is Gonna Be The One (Napalm official live video...mostly harsh vocals, but very cool groove and style changes) and Home Back (official video...written in 2019 about the fighting with Russian-backed separatists since 2014 in their homeland of the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine and it has a powerful video that an even greater emotional impact since Psychopath Putin's all-out invasion). I've been a musician (keyboardist) since I was a young kid and I've played in multiple bands in several genres over the years, but I was never into metal with scream/growl harsh vocals until I discovered Jinjer near the end of 2021. I immediately loved them because of their sophisticated, interesting and varied songwriting, fantastic musicianship and the incredible vocals of Tatiana, with her amazing ability to instantly transition back and forth between her beautiful clean singing voice and some of the best harsh vocals I've heard, female or male. (I also discovered another female fronted metalcore band at about the same time called Spiritbox and they are definitely worth checking out)
Eugene has three main basses he plays. Early on, as he graduated from more basic stuff, he found a used Monarch by Ukrainian luthier Stas Pokotylo. He fell in love with it, but it's fairly beat up. Still, you'll see him using it sometimes, despite the wear and tear. Later on, he signed with Overload, and they made him a signature bass, an Achilles 5-string headless in emerald green... but he must have had a pretty swank contract, because he still plays the Monarch quite often. Then, because he did so much to promote him, Stas made Eugene a brand new custom single cut, which is what we see in Wallflower. He plays that one a lot as well. You'll also see it in Vortex, while in Home Back he uses the Achilles. He has one or two others that he uses on rare occasions... mostly for road gigs when he doesn't want to ship the really unique/valuable ones, I think. He also has a video where he breaks down his tone and the gear he uses to make it. It's a pretty well-thought-out tone that really meshes well with the rest of the band and their style.
I luv how you tucked your earbuds in lol that’s a bass player move right there we have to enhance the hearing for bass, I do it everytime I need to hear bass better, he plays this on his IG page it’s very cool to watch you got a sexy bad ass singer like this and your going places for sure! And the musicians are amazing!
Vlad and Eugene are an amazing rhythm section overall, but when I saw them live I was blown away by Roman's playing. Dude's all over the place and his feel and taste are AMAZING while coming off as a very understated player.
Stas Pokotylo was a luthier at Fodera for years before going back to Ukraine, so that may inform you as to what you see Eugene playing here. #NoWonderHeLovesIt ;) I cannot see any chance of you not being thoroughly impressed with Jinjer's thru-composed lead single for this album (ballsy choice imho, & I love it) "Vortex". I recommend watching thru the OMV for the full effect (it's a cracking vid as long as you don't suffer from motion sickness- remember the song's called "Vortex"!).... & then settling into the bass playthrough vid Eugene uploaded for it. It's a 5--string drop-A #MasterClass imho, & a blueprint for how a deeply musical, both-hands-busy-yet-always-in-service-to-the-piece, bassist can make a single-guitarist heavy band sound HUGE!! ;)
Roman plays OD guitars, sorta boutique, gotta great back story, started by Omer Deutch, an industrial designer and metal guitar guy...Eugene signed not tool long ago with Overload guitars and they designed the Achilles 5, his signature bass, which he mostly plays. But he loves his Stas Pokotilo bass so much, you still see him playing it from time to time...great, great video. I subbed.
Once you make it out of the mainstream, Jinjer's catalog is utterly fantastic in both depth and breadth, without trying to be & do everything. Eugene's playing style is just so clean and so hard. Treat yourself to a listen of Micro. Just Gene & Vlad. Super clean. If you get a chance to see them live, grab it FAST! Doubly so if you can catch them headlining. I'm a mid-50s metalhead with 40+ years of concerts behind me. One of the Top 3 was seeing Jinjer headline in Aug 2023 in a 800 person venue. The musicality of the performance was absolutely stunning. For a reference bar, the top show(s) were Rush. Sooooooooo...
This really isn't my style of metal, and I've never been a fan of harsh vocals/growls, but this band is just so good, both individually and as a group, that I keep coming back to them since I found them a few years ago. Their songs always have something that grabs my attention and makes me say, "cool".
Hmm, so let's see. The most impressive bass tracks... Who's Gonna Be The One (Live at Atlas Park) is hella impressive. He also has a bass playthrough of it (as he does with many of their songs). Home Back is an amazing song, and very cool bass parts. I mean, really, in Jinjer, the bass carries the melody or counter-melody a lot of the time, with Roman on guitar mostly providing ambiance and filling out the sound stage. He also has a bass playthrough for that, which is kinda funny... the video has his hands cut off and playing on their own, with him in the background staring in horror at his bloody stumps. What I love about Eugene is that he uses advanced techniques, but without being flashy or masturbatory about it. He's also a great _performer_ and extremely fun to watch, and yet it never feels over-the-top or just show-off-ish to me. It's more like he puts so much effort, mentally and physically, into playing his parts perfectly, that it's just incredible to see. They also have exactly one instrumental, which is just Eugene and some auxiliary percussion. They use it as their intro and/or outro at concerts. No OMV for it, but Eugene's bass playthrough is pretty cool. It's a fairly repetitive song, though. It's called "Micro" from the EP of the same name. His playthrough of Beggar's Dance is also pretty cool with lots of tapping. In general, pick a Jinjer song and you'll almost certainly love it. They only have one song I'm not terribly fond of, and it's ancient, from their very early days as a five-piece punk/thrash band before they'd really found their identity and sound. Even then, _most_ of that album is fantastic!
Please check out Entheos - Oblivion. It’s off their new album and has no video. But, as a non-musician, it was this song that I learned what a fretless bass sounded like. I thought it was a brass instrument like a French horn or a valve trombone. I was quickly informed that it definitely was not brass. LOL.
please do more jinjer.... i haven't found a new band interesting since the days of korn, system of a down, deftones, tool, etc.... this is the FIRST in 2 decades that is a new favorite... they're doing something special... short song list of good songs to react to - astronomy, teacher, scissors, vortex, judgement, outlander, HOMEBACK (probably a must for you), noah, on the top, instrospection (the notes are soviet beautiful, i don't know how else to describe them) can't remember some of the otehrs names
@@LowEndUniversity i think APE has busy bass work but until you really have ears for jinjer's music that song might seem like a bit much... a little too crazy.... i know there is a pretty popular live version of it on yt if you're a fan of a little brr brr deng action, teacher teacher and homeback has it btw... this actually one of the bands that the musicians do their own individual playthroughs... there is a whole bunch for guitar and for bass... sometimes i prefer them over the actual songs with the vocals (like words of wisdom... sick guitar play through)
10.14 Often thought of why I love the cleans so much in Jinjer, compared to other bands that uses Growls/Cleans and I've come to the same conclusion. Many bands soften the Instrumental part a lot when they go into cleans. Example Arch Enemy's new song Handshake with hell..Like Archenemy a lot,,,but that song doesn't cut it for me. Subbed.
Thanks Frank! It was definitely something I noticed when the heaviness never felt "lost" as the vocal styles switched. You don't hear a lot of bands do that this well. I really appreciate the sub - see you around!
Great video and song choice. If you are looking for any other songs from them, I’ll give you two: Vortex (official video) - also off of the Wallflowers LP. For a fantastic live audio quality video, Pit of Consciousness Live in Kiev. Both songs will give you plenty to chew on, I promise.
I find him to be a really unique, standout bassist in that particular genre. I really love when I hear bass-forward songs like that in such heavy music!
You should check out The Omnific. It's just 2 bassists and a drummer. I'd suggest starting with the song Antecedent as it features a third bassist in Clay Gober from Polyphia.
Tati, Eugene and Roman have been in the band pretty much since the beginning. Only change is Vlad on drums (huge upgrade!) and they used to have a second guitarist. As for Eugene’s bass I believe it’s an Israeli luthier, pretty small operation for sure. These guys are also unbelievably good live.
Who Is Going To Be The One would be a great song to introduce you to their heavier side. Check out the live version. Eugene's playing stands out in that song.
Really digging your channel, Mark, glad I discovered you! I'm a long-time fan of Scale the Summit, so it's been great getting to learn a bit about the man behind the bass. Keep up the great videos, friend! I'd love to see you do some deeper dives on some of the bass lines you're covering in these videos too, but I'm sure you only have so much time. How about some Intronaut? Seems like they'd be right up your alley. Maybe Mastodon?
Hey man! I just saw this video since I’m new to your channel(but not new to your work! I follow Scale the Summit a few years now and I love your work). I don’t know if you figured out the bass Eugene uses in the video. It’s a custom by a Ukrainian luther, Stas Pokotylo. But nowadays he uses his signature basses from Overlord guitars and the last months he uses the Fujin 5 by Overlord guitars.. I don’t think that’s from his signature line but he uses it almost exclusively those past months. I show it from a close distance in their show in Athens this June and man, I’m not to much on headless instruments but this one is one the coolest basses I’ve ever saw.. check it out! And I can’t wait for more Jinjer reaction videos from you! ;) oh btw Roman in the video uses an OD guitar. But nowadays he plays and he is endorsed by Jackson guitars and uses, I think, his prototype signature that will come in the future..
Okay, some slight curveball suggestions, i.e. going outside of metal... My favorite bassists today are: ~ Eugene Abdukhanov of Jinjer, who you've heard and are discovering. ~ Henrik Linder of Dirty Loops. This is a pop/jazz fusion trio out of Sweden (Drums, Bass, Keyboard+vocals) with a lot of influence from the likes of Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. Check out: Work Shit Out for crazy slap groove throughout, and one of the most epic drum solos of all time. ruclips.net/video/r_GTgpdoCh0/видео.html Follow The Light for a two-section bass solo including multi-octave throw pedals in one part, and slap in another. ruclips.net/video/-UBcxKiS550/видео.html ~ Joe Dart of Vulfpeck. This is a modern funk band. Their bassist, Joe Dart, is pretty legendary and known for the deepest pocket in a generation. He has a Music Man signature bass for a reason. (And for a lo-fi funk band, selling out Madison Square Garden to the tune of 14,000 is damn impressive). Check out: Dean Town for a full-song bass feature including ridiculously consistent 16th note pedals and bonkers amounts of groove in the 'chorus' (it's instrumental). ruclips.net/video/le0BLAEO93g/видео.html IIRC, the keyboard player tried to write a song he didn't think Joe could play. The video, I believe, is the first take, and the first time he ever played it. Just insane. Also: lamp solo for the win! Fugue State for an amazing musical pun and, of course, epic bass playing. ruclips.net/video/3RGoXZvuUBw/видео.html ~ Michael League, leader of Snarky Puppy. Snarky Puppy is the band that modernized and redefined jazz fusion throughout the last decade and a half or so. Michael League is the bass player and band leader. He composes probably about half of their songs, and in most, he takes a back seat and is just a bass player, but in a couple, he really opens up and shows his chops. Check out: The Curtain ft. Metropole Orkest. This is a long but incredible full orchestra journey and features a ridiculous bass solo and one of the best piano solos I've ever heard. ruclips.net/video/jLRw-Ahq22k/видео.html Young Stuff. Very tasty octave-doubled bass solo and good basslines in general. ruclips.net/video/8pYHLfKqHL4/видео.html
Between the buried and me has such a strong bass player that adds so much to their music. If you haven’t checked them out then you should consider it :)
@@LowEndUniversity I think Melting City is a great example of strong bass in some of those mellow parts. He really sets a groove outside of the guitars and it’s phenomenal. Their bass player also has a bass play through of Telos on RUclips for your enjoyment.
The unsung heroes are the sound engineers who work with Jinjer. Foe example, Dmitry Kim was a "temporary" drummer for Jinjer who still works with them as a sound engineer, which is his main jam. Excellent drummer mind you. Replaced by Vlad Ulasevich (current drummer) who is just otherworldly.
man...love the reactions, about time someone does bass reactions!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! Check out: Hugo Doyon-Karout (BEYOND CREATION) and Jared Smith (ARCHSPIRE) - both are INCREDIBLE 6 string bass players!! HEAVILY UNDERRATED!!!!!
OMG, you cut it off before Eugene's bass lead out. Take a minute and listen to the credits. Loved the reaction, just sad you missed a beautiful bass moment.
@@LowEndUniversity awesome! It's actually part of another song, but I ain't gonna tell you which, just to keep you guessing. ;) The one thing I can say is that there is not a bad Jinjer song, but there are bad venues. Stay with the fans and they will give you some wondrous stuff to listen to. Eugene is excellent and his playthroughs are a delight. I'm always happy to see the bass getting some love.
You'd probably really like Protest The Hero if you haven't heard of them, a lot of their bass parts are pretty intense, with the bass supporting a lot of very shredy guitar stuff. One of the most criminally overlooked bands in all of metal. Arif, their original bassist, is one of my favorite of all time. Hair Trigger would probably be a good one of theirs for a reaction.
i would love to see you react to jinjer- vortex i would love to see any bass player react to protest the hero - sequoia throne ive not seen many people react to it at all on yt personally think its a very underrated song specially on bass, hope you like my recommendations
Okay yeah, re-watching it, I think the next Jinjer video you should do is a double-header of Vortex (OMV) and Vortex (Bass playthrough). Because the OMV and the song are epic as hell, but the bass playthrough is one of his most impressive. Vortex (OMV): ruclips.net/video/AiaOSGZTwtY/видео.html Bass Playthrough: ruclips.net/video/iBdZI_u3zP0/видео.html
Ah, no, they have (with at least some members of the current lineup), 5 studio albums, 1 EPs, and a live album. Inhale, Do Not Breathe in 2013, they hadn't really quite found their sound yet, though there were glimmers of it, and some good stuff there. It has the only song of theirs I don't like. Cloud Factory is their most speed/prog album, still with the old drummer, Dmitriy Kim. King of Everything is a pretty cool concept album... it's what Pisces is from, though the album version with Dmitriy is markedly different from the Live Studio Session they re-released to celebrate Vlad joining (the drummer). He really transformed the song with his much more sophisticated and musical drumming style. Micro and Macro they released very close together, with Micro being an EP and kind of 'teasing' Macro. Taken together, they're kind of Jinjer's "signature sound". Then in 2021 they released Wallflowers. It's much darker, heavier, more mature, even more compositionally complex and sophisticated.
I think you should react to Jared Smith from Archspire. Dude is a beast. You can check he do a bass playthrough and the song's name is 'Drone Corpse Aviator'. Trust me, you will not disappoint. Enjoy mate.
In addition to Ian Tellam here ruclips.net/video/2Dx3J29OuaM/видео.html another bass-playtrough which shows some impressive technical „madness“ of Eugene in a bass-store - or should I say in the bass-heaven ;-) ...
I recommend watching the video "Jinjer Brbr DENG + Play Their Favorite Riffs" - ruclips.net/video/FjfBF57h2Eo/видео.html - Eugene talks there among other things about his bass.
Eugene has a great playthrough of Vortex, it shows a lot of his techniques up close. He's a beast.
I plan to cover that one on here ASAP!
@@LowEndUniversity I’d suggest his play through of Ape. Tons of awesome techniques
I just started following him on IG and am very impressed of his playing
LOVING this band so far, been listening to more today! What’s the next Jinjer song I should cover here on the channel? 💥
Home Back next please :)
Here's Eugene's playthrough... ruclips.net/video/mlmSjbfeZIk/видео.html
In the video, there's a direct correlation to the pressure she felt for procrastinating lyric writing for the album to the last second.
White Wolf, Black Wolf: A Cherokee Story
Inside you lives a wolf of white-
of patience, peace and love.
He is forgiveness, hope and light;
a blessing from above.
This wolf of white the world will see

_____this wolf of white,
his gifts will set your spirit free.
A wolf of black, as dark as night
lives next to him inside.
He’s hatred, rage, cruelty, fright,
intolerance and pride.
This wolf of black the world will see
through evil actions, evil deeds.
_____This wolf of black,

"Retrospection live in Melbourne" and "Cloud Factory official live video"
That is a quality song, I'd only heard Pisces and Homeback from them. I'm definitely going to have to check more of their stuff out
try introspection or teacher teacher (which i consider maybe the best example of a modern metal song of a past decade, has everything)
@@notimportant3686 I listened to teacher teacher just yesterday and I have to agree
@@Janokins awesome👍
@@Janokins if you like the heavier side of things, try homeback... if you like jazzy non metal try beggar's dance, if you want crazy riffage look up roman's GUITAR playthrough of words of wisdom, if you want a banger with everything I speak astronomy, and if you want a simpler straight forward structure of a metal song that still kicks ass try their early OUTLANDER
They have an amazing discography
Eugene has done several bas playthroughs of their songs, think you can find them on Jinjer's youtube channel.
Good afternoon! I strongly recommend to watch JINJER - Vortex (Bass one-take playthrough) Regards
More Jinjer please
Every person in this band is S-tier! Master musicians!! They all know how and when to turn it on as well as keep it simple!! Vortex is my favorite song of theirs!!
I got to tell you, you will not be disappointed with any song you hear. They are that good, and Ugen is an amazing base player. Can't wait for more of your reactions to them..
Thanks so much Tony! I listened to many more songs today and I’m hooked. I’ll for sure do more Jinjer soon enough!
this is exactly the reason for me that i love this band jinjer more than anything, they are unique in the mass of bands out there.
(Official Video) | Napalm Records
warm greetings from germany
Eugene has several playthroughs here on YT...but I love his silly side demonstrated in his playthrough of their song "Beggar's Dance." - all the two-handed tapping you could want in that one!
Beggars dance is so epic and so is the playthrough. Super short outro track from King Of Everything so you could easily do a double feature if you want. I'm not greedy! I'd add that the Home Back horror playthrough is funny too. Talk about cognitive dissonance laughing while listening to Home Back though... :(
@@j.f.fisher5318 "Beggar's Dance" would make a perfect OMV / bass playthrough double feature!
Dude you have to check out. Eugene's play through of beggers dance. It very different from what we've heard from jinjer.
Just 'subbed'...on point reaction. JINJER has been my favorite band now for over 2 years. Amazing players and Tati is the best at what she does...
I would suggest Vortex next. Some incredible bass work by Eugene and a song that is mostly through-composed
Check out Bass playthough of this. Also, second on recommending Beggars Dance
I'm a big fan of these guys, I'm gonna be the one, especially the live performance shows his style very nicely
Wow, I've seen a lot of reactions to Jinjej and this one is so enlightening and helps to understand how this music works. Thank you so much!
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏🏼
Vortex (also from the Wallflowers album) is an absolute masterpiece.
Check it out.
Great band. Eugene is a great player. The way he attacks the strings is awesome. Fingers of steel.
This particular song is composed by Eugene by the way (most of the songs from Wallflowers composed by their drummer Vlad).
Theres a great bass playthrough video for this song, you would really enjoy seeing what Eugene does.
They're a very talented band, together and individually.
I think Teacher Teacher by them is an amazing one for bass. that song goes HARD
Jinjer is a fantastic band, and was my gateway to harsh vocals. You should check out the video for "Home Back".
Stas Pokotylo was a luthier at Fodera for years before going back to Ukraine, so that may inform you as to what you see Eugene playing here. #NoWonderHeLovesIt ;)
I cannot see any chance of you not being thoroughly impressed with Jinjer's thru-composed lead single for this album (ballsy choice imho, & I love it) "Vortex". I recommend watching thru the OMV for the full effect (it's a cracking vid as long as you don't suffer from motion sickness- remember the song's called "Vortex"!).... & then settling into the bass playthrough vid Eugene uploaded for it. It's a 5--string drop-A #MasterClass imho, & a blueprint for how a deeply musical, both-hands-busy-yet-always-in-service-to-the-piece, bassist can make a single-guitarist heavy band sound HUGE!! ;)
Super cool. "Vortex" is on my list, stay tuned!
This BAND IS SO SICK
Great video mark!! i'll love to see more metal videos
"Lovebites - Judgement Day" New bassist Fami is a REVELATION! 🔥🤘💜🐺
Haha, I JUST filmed this, going up tomorrow! Stay tuned 😎
Great band
I'm not a musician but it's my understanding that Eugene has his own signature bass with that manufacturer
I will soon! Which one has the coolest bass work from that list?
@@LowEndUniversity i think APE has busy bass work but until you really have ears for jinjer's music that song might seem like a bit much... a little too crazy.... i know there is a pretty popular live version of it on yt
if you're a fan of a little brr brr deng action, teacher teacher and homeback has it
btw... this actually one of the bands that the musicians do their own individual playthroughs... there is a whole bunch for guitar and for bass... sometimes i prefer them over the actual songs with the vocals (like words of wisdom... sick guitar play through)
Eugene has some great playthrough videos also.
Who is Gonna Be the One by Jinjer is also nuts and has some crazy bass runs
The entire LP is lit
Great video and song choice.
If you are looking for any other songs from them, I’ll give you two:
Vortex (official video) - also off of the Wallflowers LP.
For a fantastic live audio quality video, Pit of Consciousness Live in Kiev.
Both songs will give you plenty to chew on, I promise.
Thank you so much!!! Appreciate these suggestions. I’ll be checking them out shortly!
Eugene is such a beast
Dude I cannot thumbs up your videos any harder
Hey, thank you so much for the nice words! I appreciate the info on his axes here. I have another Jinjer video in the queue soon! See you around!
I can also recommend the band Avatar from Sweden with bass player Henrik Sandelin, also an excellent bass player
Good stuff man! One day, you could review one of your bass line, that would be a lot of fun :)
Check out Teacher Teacher, Vortex, or I Speak Astronomy. Great bass
Okay, some slight curveball suggestions, i.e. going outside of metal...
My favorite bassists today are:
~ Eugene Abdukhanov of Jinjer, who you've heard and are discovering.
~ Henrik Linder of Dirty Loops. This is a pop/jazz fusion trio out of Sweden (Drums, Bass, Keyboard+vocals) with a lot of influence from the likes of Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.
Check out:
Work Shit Out for crazy slap groove throughout, and one of the most epic drum solos of all time. ruclips.net/video/r_GTgpdoCh0/видео.html
Follow The Light for a two-section bass solo including multi-octave throw pedals in one part, and slap in another. ruclips.net/video/-UBcxKiS550/видео.html
~ Joe Dart of Vulfpeck.
Check out:
Dean Town for a full-song bass feature including ridiculously consistent 16th note pedals and bonkers amounts of groove in the 'chorus' (it's instrumental). ruclips.net/video/le0BLAEO93g/видео.html IIRC, the keyboard player tried to write a song he didn't think Joe could play. The video, I believe, is the first take, and the first time he ever played it. Just insane. Also: lamp solo for the win!
Fugue State for an amazing musical pun and, of course, epic bass playing. ruclips.net/video/3RGoXZvuUBw/видео.html
~ Michael League, leader of Snarky Puppy.
Check out:
The Curtain ft. Metropole Orkest. This is a long but incredible full orchestra journey and features a ridiculous bass solo and one of the best piano solos I've ever heard. ruclips.net/video/jLRw-Ahq22k/видео.html
Young Stuff. Very tasty octave-doubled bass solo and good basslines in general. ruclips.net/video/8pYHLfKqHL4/видео.html
Between the buried and me has such a strong bass player that adds so much to their music. If you haven’t checked them out then you should consider it :)
What song should I do??
HEAVILY UNDERRATED!!!!!
i guarantee your mind will be blown!!!!
I recommend Mediator and Pit of consciousness live in Kive . Enjoy the rabbit hole.
Ha, thank you! I look forward to exploring them further!
Whi is Gonna Be the One live is great. Eugene does some interesting stuff in that song
OMG, you cut it off before Eugene's bass lead out. Take a minute and listen to the credits.
Loved the reaction, just sad you missed a beautiful bass moment.
Haha, sorry! I DID listen to it, just was unplugging my bass and such after the camera stopped. It was super cool! Didn’t expect that 😅
@@LowEndUniversity awesome! It's actually part of another song, but I ain't gonna tell you which, just to keep you guessing. ;)
The one thing I can say is that there is not a bad Jinjer song, but there are bad venues. Stay with the fans and they will give you some wondrous stuff to listen to. Eugene is excellent and his playthroughs are a delight. I'm always happy to see the bass getting some love.
@@davejohnston2197 Pearls and Swine
you should react to some of eugenes bass playthroughs - they up the bass in the mix and you can watch his hands
I sure will for the next one!!
It's worth checking out Karnivool. Jon Stockman is a hell of a bass player. I highly recommend Goliath or Deadman 😊
Love them! I haven't really listened to much outside of Fortress, I need to catch up! Plan to cover them soon, for sure.
Roman is using an OD Guitar. Since leaving Ukraine for this last touring cycle he uses a custom Jackson live.
i would love to see you react to jinjer- vortex i would love to see any bass player react to protest the hero - sequoia throne ive not seen many people react to it at all on yt personally think its a very underrated song specially on bass, hope you like my recommendations
🕊
he plays an Achilles bass guitar by Overload Guitars
I think the bass is GDAEA. The guitars are usually tuned to drop A, but i believe this one is just normal 7 string tuning.
Eugene has quite a few bass playthrough videos of their songs on their RUclips channel, including this one.
ruclips.net/video/mlmSjbfeZIk/видео.html
Okay yeah, re-watching it, I think the next Jinjer video you should do is a double-header of Vortex (OMV) and Vortex (Bass playthrough). Because the OMV and the song are epic as hell, but the bass playthrough is one of his most impressive.
Vortex (OMV): ruclips.net/video/AiaOSGZTwtY/видео.html

try "the Zenith Passage" - their bass player is damn beast)
Eugene has always been good, but I think that when the band changed from 2 guitars to one, he really stepped up.
He uses an Overload bass out of Italy.
Please do the song and plague flowers the kaleidoscope by Ne obliviscaris. And Omnipresent perception by Beyond creation.
Thanks Patrick! I'll add Ne O to the list. A video for Dominic goes up this week as well, but with his new band First Fragment. Stay tuned 🙏🏼
I think you should react to Jared Smith from Archspire. Dude is a beast. You can check he do a bass playthrough and the song's name is 'Drone Corpse Aviator'.
Trust me, you will not disappoint. Enjoy mate.
Roman plays OD Guitars
romans guitar is a custom Omar Deutsch from Israel. , they also have objects in mirror , and inhale do not breathe that came before cloud factory.
they've been categorised as EP
In addition to Ian Tellam here ruclips.net/video/2Dx3J29OuaM/видео.html
another bass-playtrough which shows some impressive technical „madness“ of Eugene in a bass-store - or should I say in the bass-heaven ;-) ...
Nice! Thank you! I’ll check it out now 💥
I recommend watching the video "Jinjer Brbr DENG + Play Their Favorite Riffs" - ruclips.net/video/FjfBF57h2Eo/видео.html - Eugene talks there among other things about his bass.
Roman uses OD guitars.
