Watching NorCal Dave pays off again!!! I’m back offshore and I walk past the walk in cooler condensing unit to go upstairs several times a day. I noticed the tell tale signs of it flooding back and told the chief engineer he may want to take a look at it if nothing has been done to it lately. Told him to check the fan motor and coil if no one has adjusted the charge lately. Sure enough, they had piled up boxes around the evaporator, starved it of airflow and it iced up solid. A round with the heat gun later and we don’t get spoiled groceries now. Thanks Dave!!!!!!
Nor-Cal Refrigeration & H.V.A.C update: I guess they had been steadily lowering the thermostat to compensate for the ice buildup. After cleaning the coil and not re-adjusting the stat, the cooler was a light freezer for a while.
I’ve used the flux coated rod and what you’re using in this video, and I have to say the white paste and coil are my preference. With the paste flux, you can see when it gets hot enough to start taking silver by the way it starts bubbling. Great work as always, Dave! 👍🏻👍🏻
I wish a lot of the older central air units had flare nut TXVs, Ive done two TXV replacements and its super high stress for me since they were braze in/sweat in TXVs. I always worry ill be cookin them even tho i have the heatpuddy and wet rag on em lol. Great video Dave
Don't worry about it man. some guys don't even use wet rags. you are taking precautions and care so your doing it right. just keep a little wet rag around the valve, get in there with the torch and get out. use oxy acet torch, #2 tip, Get in and get out is the key. its all in the prep work, clean your copper real good, clean the txv real good ,inside and out , use flux and 56% silver solder and your golden.
Check into danfoss all stainless steel Txv's , i've heard u can just use 15% and no Rags or anything. the valves are bullet proof i think ive heard. no Wet Rags needed i think ive heard. maybe check danfoss.com . i ve never installed the all stainless steel ones , but i believe i've heard that u don't have to worry about anything sweating them in. you might want to check them out.
@@OcRefrig I currently work for a company that's well, the owner is a nice guy but he's not the brightest bulb. Hes weird with what we do and don't,, many of the times we go with the manufacturer's choice of parts. I have only done one Danfoss TXV on a Trane TMM front return unit. Fresh after the install the unit kept pumping down, gas would not flow through to the suction. Long story short we pinned the TXV, replaced it with another Danfoss, and same issue occurred. We ended up installing another new AHU. Anyway I haven't dealt with a stainless steel TXV. Would be an interesting encounter. Thanks for your help though, your kindness encouraged me. I will definitely use your advice, with the flux. 👍
Question:?on the condensing uniit they dont have a doghouse over the unit is that because its California or there appeared to be a roof above it Wandering if certain towns/city's have a requirement or just done when first installed years prior
hey Dave good video as always ! I noticed that every time you brush the condenser/evaporator. what kind of brush - wire brush ? I've always use nylon brush but after few times it's already worn out. thanks
Nice effort. I think it's the very first time seeing the nitrogen flow while brazing from Dave. Nitrogen flow while brazing is the most important process to make the compressor last longer.
Dave It could get worse if they start incorporating micro channel into the refrigeration industry. There will be nowhere to pump down the circuit.......
the pressure/temperature chart is withing 4 lbs or less across the whole range, same valve will work for either gas, small adjustment may be needed ;) changing-over is hard because the oils are different, R502 is "CFC" and used mineral oil. where 404 is HFC and uses POE oil mostly.
Hvac 1 sporlan web sight has all the TXV listed. 502 was usually used on low temp ( freezers ) 404a was the replacement for it. Then it was used on medium temp. And you only needed one refrigerant for both. When I started R-12 was medium temp R502 freezers and R-22 was for A/C.
DAVE!!! DRIESILKER ELECTRIC MOTOR HAS THE START CORD MAN!! ITS UNDER THE MA-LINE...ITS 49.99$ IN STORE...BADASS MAN! LET THE FUCKING WORLD KNOW ...NOW!! HAHA
OcRefrigeration,Hvac & Electrical. On my phone. GoPro app downloads to phone. The hero6 is way better than the old ones. And the is app is amazing the have it dialed in for iPhone.
hey! that's electric tape abuse :))))) funny, how it's always electric tape used for most everything by all the trades.... when doing actual residential/light commercial, we hardly ever touched tape, except to tag service entrance wires as neutral and ground ( common they were all only black jacketed)
Hello Dave, I represent rainbow dash and I have to inform you the he is suing you for wrongful removal and destruction of his land. This lawsuit will be dropped if you purchase and install the my little pony castle beside of the condenser. Thank you for your quick response.
bah, age is but a number ;) in 83 the things were made to last, I'm still betting the death of it was self inflicted. lack of cleaning, low gas, cooked oil
throttle --- there comes a time when age does come into play and this is it. 35 years , is pretty much it for stufff even made great. i''ll bet bearing just wore out they can only go round and round for so long. and it locks up.
At least it had something in it. major thumbs up. Granger is a good place, but it's just real expensive 9 times out of 10. never used it for getting units from. just respiratoors, industrial stuff, big trash cans , Rain boots, stuff like that.sometimes i get exhauster motors from them , relays -omron relays etc.

Robert L that’s awesome 👍👍

Robert L they always turn the tstat down. I have videos showing this. You had a multiple offender 👍👍
Good morning--good video to follow up Steve and the baby dog
Mark Baker I wanna drink beers and talk story with Steve

Great video Dave!
ComfortPlus Heating and Cooling thanks Chuck.
How about a using a condenser pad from a AC condenser get it off the ground? Or some 4x4’s
How did that cloth stay white? It was cleary a brown, red liquid where you dipped it? Btw pony did it!
sjef oekel I had a red rag in the bucket.
Good job Dave

harpoe18 I use a nylon brush from Home Depot. There in the cleaning section
@@NorCal-refrigeration many thanks !!!
harpoe18 thanks for watching
Great Video Dave digging that Tstat , works as a Time clock too right ??
Felipe Tafolla yes you can set the interval and duration
Nor-Cal Refrigeration & H.V.A.C cool I’m going to start looking into those Tstats . Thanks Dave 😎
love the smell of r12 and mineral oil
what did u use to put that hole for that access fitting?
Nice condenser/tev /tstat.installation. Dave
Michael Lee thanks Michael
Nice effort. I think it's the very first time seeing the nitrogen flow while brazing from Dave. Nitrogen flow while brazing is the most important process to make the compressor last longer.
Charlie Son I flow it all the time. Go back and watch all my videos. And have all your friends and family watch too. 😂
How did you control the condenser , to stop when get to the temperature it's set ?
I find it cool when I work on units older than me lol, I’m only 20 😂
Adan Diaz that’s awesome. The way there built now nowadays you probably won’t see many.

Great Job!
Yea on the Safety Glasses ( 05:20 )!
Looked like fun!

Hey Dave did you know that paste flux contains water?
What If for some reason you can't achieve 500 microns, is below 1000 acceptable?
Nice way to start the day...

Good video again that condensing unit was before my time 🤫
Pony can be a hood ornament for Vangina 2 or I should say Vangina Deuce.
silicone the pony to the hood by its feet. lol.
Did this unit come with any nitrogen in it
Warren Sharp barley. Copeland has gone down hill.

Shawn Rivera thanks Shawn.
Thank you so much also can you us wiring mechanical thermostat to digital thermostat
bharatbeer rama I can

It could get worse if they start incorporating micro channel into the refrigeration industry.
There will be nowhere to pump down the circuit.......
Fred K it’s already here Fred
Heatcraft Condensors are micro channels coils
Dave, you found a "rainbow dash" my little pony, don't ask how I know....I got two daughters and know way too much on that crap.
Damian Orsini my 19 year old had those. We played with those all the time. Good times. 👍
👍👍👍
Harry Dickson pony love Harry
when folks rant about My Little Pony. I tell them M.L.P. = their little winky :)))
Nice job Dave! But can I get my daughter's Pony back? Unless of course you need a little more Pony love then by all means hang on to it.😂
Alpha Tech Refrigeration pony love rules. 🤘

I got way to much to say about this one, but Shakira is my wife! You know what to do Dave comment, like, LOVE!
Justin Hernandez I’ll cut you that’s my wife. Well after I’m done with Donna. Then it’s Shakira.
Justin Hernandez shakira left you for me and Dave
So you can use a 502 exp valve with 404a? Is their a good substitution chart available?
the pressure/temperature chart is withing 4 lbs or less across the whole range, same valve will work for either gas, small adjustment may be needed ;)
