I'm a bassist, but I've owned a few guitars. I got an Eastman T486 in the summer and it's flat out the best guitar I've ever owned. If I was stuck on a desert island with just this guitar, I wouldn't feel bad about it (and I'm saying that as a bassist!)
Yes , there is a guitarbrand that is just as good as the Eastmans , but is cheaper , take a look at the Stanford guitar site ( there the "overseas " made brand ) form Maybach , if you read my comment on this vid you can see i had Eastmans , Gibsons , and Epi's so i think i have a fairly good idea about there build levels .
They are incredible, I really want the T59V next as it apparently has an ever so slightly thicker neck which is the only one small thing I would change on this one. Amazing guitars.
I just picked up a 2021 Eastman T486 and I love it. I tried many 335 and 339 styles looking for one and this one was by far the best in the “less than Gibson” price category.
Hey Pauly, great playing and love the channel. It seems we have similar taste in both music and guitars! Hey, can you describe the neck shape of this guitar? I felt a T484 (smaller body) neck and it seemed huge, like baseball bat effect, but don’t 339s have a bit rounder neck than a 335? I really want one of these but I can’t do a huge neck if that’s the case. Thanks!!
Hi thanks dude, weird to go back to my first ever eastman vid haha. Ah interesting ive never tried the 484 as im not a 339 fan personally - this one has the smallest neck of any eastman ive tried which by now is alot haha.
@@Paul-DLOL so I found your channel a couple days ago as I recently bought an Isbell tele. Very nice review,, I’m wondering if you ever got to play the epiphone inspired by Gibson es355. I can’t decide between the epi and the Eastman t486. I can’t play either will have to purchase online
I have indeed - i am impressed with the new epiphones despite their price hike. But they arent a patch on the Eastmans, i just dont think its possible when your talking about epiphones massive volume vs Eastman that a comparatively low production volume and that makes the Eastman a much better guitar to own in the end.
Stumbled across this looking for a Malcolm Young style instrument bu6t with a wider (nut) than even the current Gibson (I have a 2021 Tribute, and a Gretsch twinjet) I struggle with open chord fretting as I injured a finger years ago, so need wider string spacing. What's this like? The spec states 1.75" nut so looks promising.
@@Paul-D I just looked at the Eastman website, and it states 1.72" nut width, which is only a small increase over the current Gibson size. The question for me therefore is less about finding a more playable neck (it might be by a very small amount) and more about a solid vs a semi. I'm tempted as I'm a bit of a Malcolm Young fan.
well, If I had to only have a solid body with humbuckers or a semi 335/355 etc - I would choose the semi hollow. A solid body LP type is more familiar and comfortable... but you can't beat the sound of a truly great semi

Ive tried only 3 guitars with stainless frets, and i found them all to have a weird almost sharp sounding brightness to them? The epi was nice too , but no match for the stanford / eastman / gibson standard , but i guess it always comes down too you're budget , all four brands are good guitars in there own right , but : epi = 550 euro , stanford = 1100 euro , eastman = 1600 euro , gibson = 3000 euro and beyond ( wich is insane ) . The electronics and pu's in the stanford guitars are not the expensive brands as in the eastman , instead they use alpha mini pots and artec pu's , but they work and sound great , so , who cares , all that shit is just a branding / marketing scam anyways .

Hi Paul, I was looking forwards to hearing your views of this guitar as I have one in exactly the same spec and have owned it for a couple of years now. It is definitely a keeper for me as is my Eastman SB59, which if anything is even better - check one out if you can, especially if Les Pauls are starting to grow on you these days! One - hopefully constructive! - note of criticism and that relates to the lighting set up on this video. Not sure whether it was deliberate on your part, but the lighting on this vid is awful (in my opinion!) resulting in quite a blurred video throughout, and the stunning finish on this guitar not coming across very well at all - most unlike your previous vid which have been great! Keep up the good work!!
Long story short I used to have a small music store and sold everything pretty much everything i had to fund stock. Selling this guitar was the toughest one to let go and my partner got me the T59V a year later knowing how much i missed this one.
I'm a relative novice at guitar but having just bought this same guitar a few days ago and I know how you feel. Of the options in my price range this is an absolute standout. I started out with and still have an Epiphone ES339 and have been fortunate enough to be able to have a long term loan and tryouts of a few other guitars so I'm learning what I like and don't like. This T486 is just wonderland and may be all I'll ever need in the decades ahead. Just loving how it feels, sounds and looks. Can't wipe the smile away . :)))
Congrats on the guitar man! Finding out what you like and dont like is all part of that journey. Im still learning after 4 years lol but this is a lifer guitar for sure
I'm far from a novice with many high-end guitars bought/sold (along with my adult son)....and I agree 100% with you. T486 is spectacular. Got an SB59 GoldTop on it's way next week.
Thank you Eastman for offering a classic Gibson ES-335 model WITHOUT the needless Gibson "price gouging" that usually goes with it (lol)! This one will definitely be on my short list of potential candidates for my first AND ONLY official electric guitar. Those crafty folks over there in China aren't messin' around anymore, they're gettin' it D-O-N-E right now and that's all I'm gonna say... 😁
Yup, heard good things, hence I often look at their LP style guitar, I think the model is T59. The issue I have is that for an Asian (Indonesia/Korea?) made guitar they are priced in a similar realm to many US made guitars. Sure a Gibson LP standard costs more than the Eastman version, but it's a fair bit more than some of the competition such as an Epiphone. I reckon I could also buy a Japanese Tokai for less also., along with other options. So, yes, I'm not doubting they are good quality, it's just they are priced awkwardly. Cheers. 😎
I see where your coming from for sure. But when you can get one up close and personal they win you over, it truly feels like a customshop guitar. I think history will look back kindly on eastman guitars too even though the resale right now is a potential turn off - i say use it to your advantage to get one haha.
@@Paul-D Thanks Pauly....I guess we are living in the days of many good brands at all sorts of price points. Which can only be good for the consumer. 'Alternate' brands gotta offer something to compete - price or quality compared to the competition. I don't buy with resale in the back of my mind, although many do. In a similar vein, I wonder how long these companies will last? 👀 Perhaps they eventually sell out to a bigger company who may continue the name. Pity that prices are set to or have risen due to shortages across the board. And once new prices are established they don't miraculously go back down! Cheers mate. 🎸🎸🎸
@@nostro1001 Its a good time for guitar players with the choice but the way the market has been adjusted on the back of shortages in and out of music gear is.... disturbing.
@@Paul-D Totally agree...and the shortages won't last all that long now that the world is getting back on track. Sure Christmas there's always high demand, but no reason production can't meet demand. Slipping should return the better times in the near future.
You definitely will not buy a Japanese built Tokai for that price now. The Japanese Tokai, any model, has gone through the roof. The Eastman is as good if not better quality, and cheaper.
I’m by long shot a guitar snob but I must say I owned this guitar for a week before I got sick of it After it was so oversold by everyone I went out and got one but was not happy from the get go The stain was just wrong , same as this one it’s not a nice burst but rather just red . The overall finish was pretty good but the guitar just didn’t sound good , I agree that a Gibson es335 is WAY overpriced but at least it didn’t would “ringy” and everything seemed to rattle when playing it . The ebony neck just didn’t sound right on this and although sounding ok through distortion it didn’t sound well on clean channel and these are Seymour Duncan’s so I was a bit dumbfounded , I gave up on setting the intonation on the high e as it just was impossible And at the end of the day even though this was a well built instrument it still sounded like any Chinese made guitar , I returned it to the store after a week , luckily I got my money back
you got the T386....my T486 is world class.... best of a long line of Gibsons, Heritage, USA-made S and T style guitars...and reputable Asian brands like PRS SE, B&G Crossroads, Gretsch, Epi, etc....
@@Paul-D sorry did not mention the weight. It is the stop tail version, no bigsby and it is 8lbs 12oz. Maybe that’s fine for some players but a bit weighty for me
I cant get my head round to that opinion personally. Surely youd be glad they exist even with that opinion because its brands like eastman that truly put the pressure on gibson to keep their guitars great consistantly. I can tell you though as someone who buys and sells many gibsons. That if you took a random dozen gibsons you might get a couple of really good ones. Take a dozen eastmans and theyll all be bloody fantastic.

Now , i never buy new guitars , 2e hand buying just saves me so much money in buying end reselling that in fact all these transactions didn't cost me an euro to much , i have bought the stanford ES 335 i have now for 725 euro and it's a killer guitar . The electronics and pu's in the stanford guitars are not the expensive brands as in the eastman , instead they use alpha mini pots and artec pu's , but they work and sound great , so , who cares , all that shit is just a branding / marketing scam anyways .
thanks for the info, like yourself ive bought and sold ALOT of guitars (the 200 videos on here for one ahaha) but never even heard of Stanford guitars no less there association with maybach! So i will definitely check those out!!
@@Paul-D hello , there are some vids on yt of the stanford ES 330 and ES 335 made by well known yt creators ( henning from eytschpi42 and leigh fuge ect. ) , just discorved you're channel , good vids , so i'm subscribed now 😀
Appreciate it thank for subbing
Have you had any feedback problems with this guitar at high volumes?
Never at any time 😁😁
I just love my T484 - except for the Ping tuners; changed them out for Ratio locking tuners - way better. But... it is an amazing instrument - beats out the ES 339's I was playing.
I changed out the tuners on my SB59 too. Thanks for watching
@@Paul-D what did you replace them with?
The ping tuners keep in tune with my 486 for days . No issues. Better than the Grovers on my 335
That's good to hear - they just didn't work for me. It was originally advertised with much higher end tuners.
@Johnsormani uners. @Johnsormani
Stupid question - hope someone will help. What again was the tune called starting at 6:01. Of course I know it but cannot find it and Shazam doesn t recognize ...
Albatross - peter greens fleetwood mac 😁
@@Paul-D Of course!! Tx 2nd!! R.
It s called Albatross.
Out of curiosity what does your one weigh
This one was just under 9lbs. Same weight as my T59V actually. Not the lightest Eastman have but still good for a 335 :)
Thanks Paul that is the same as my T486, must be the ballpark for them. Loved you demo, great playing, have subscribed
Sorry I missed this but is this the classic colour or red?
Its the antique one not the normal red 😁
@@Paul-D Thanks for the response, I think it actually looks closer to that traditional worn cherry red of a 335, the Eastman red version is a bit too bright
What make and model Amp was used?
Was a while ago but until recently all vids were either the boss katana head and 212 cab micd up or if recording at night my neural dsp soldano plugin
Keep up the good work!!
i think the video was locked to 360p so trying to fix that too lol. Cheers dude!
I would buy one if I could find one in stock. I've tried for several years now...
We are lucky in the UK they are usually available but in low numbers
Which color is that. The red or classic?
Classic, im actually not overly keen on the red.
it looks terrific!@@Paul-D
What was the song at the start of the sound demo?
Simple man. I can play it a little better now, hopefully 🤣
@@Paul-D Mate, being a beginner myself, I thought you played alright. I saw you have a t59v now, did you get rid of the t486 and if so why?
@Anthony Marks nice one man :D
Thank you Eastman for offering a classic Gibson ES-335 model WITHOUT the needless Gibson "price gouging" that usually goes with it (lol)! This one will definitely be on my short list of potential candidates for my first AND ONLY official electric guitar. Those crafty folks over there in China aren't messin' around anymore, they're gettin' it D-O-N-E right now and that's all I'm gonna say...
😁
It's more of a 355 with the ebony board but has the look of a 345.
for sure. a greatest hits compilation haha
Jescar frets are just good nickel frets. No conparison to stainless steel though.
Yeh Jescar just a brand but nonetheless i seem to absolutely love them. So much so i bought a set of them and fitted them to my strat 😅
I play my T486MX over my Gibson 335
I’m by long shot a guitar snob but I must say I owned this guitar for a week before I got sick of it
After it was so oversold by everyone I went out and got one but was not happy from the get go
The stain was just wrong , same as this one it’s not a nice burst but rather just red .
The overall finish was pretty good but the guitar just didn’t sound good , I agree that a Gibson es335 is WAY overpriced but at least it didn’t would “ringy” and everything seemed to rattle when playing it .
The ebony neck just didn’t sound right on this and although sounding ok through distortion it didn’t sound well on clean channel and these are Seymour Duncan’s so I was a bit dumbfounded , I gave up on setting the intonation on the high e as it just was impossible
And at the end of the day even though this was a well built instrument it still sounded like any Chinese made guitar , I returned it to the store after a week , luckily I got my money back
Have you tried any other Eastmans since? Theres good and bad in all brands no matter what the price after all.
you got the T386....my T486 is world class.... best of a long line of Gibsons, Heritage, USA-made S and T style guitars...and reputable Asian brands like PRS SE, B&G Crossroads, Gretsch, Epi, etc....
Have one exactly the same and like it but it is heavier than I would have liked and for that reason I now wish I did not buy it
Pretty unusual for eastman on the weight front - ive yet to find a heavy one haha.
Yeah agree, I’d heard the same so ordered online, I’ll never do that again
@@Paul-D sorry did not mention the weight. It is the stop tail version, no bigsby and it is 8lbs 12oz. Maybe that’s fine for some players but a bit weighty for me
not in time !! my friend 👎
Another chinese shit , as good it can be that's not the point it's a copy , a fake 335 .
@@Paul-D
Bloody fantastic as the gun on forehead of chineses workers .
Certainly those guitar are great , but that's not the point .
@@MrFuzzyBoss is it like that though? Thats the only point i do struggle with internally a little in regards to buying goods from china is when people say its supporting human right violations and unethical on that front. Because that is a good point, if true to that extent.
@@MrFuzzyBoss Lol in that case, I take it you don't buy any products from Amazon or go to McDonald's, Wendy's or Walmart, who are all known for subjecting Americans to sweatshop conditions. These are just a few examples. I also take it you have never used any Apple products at all, as they are all made in China or have any clothes or shoes made in China
