Wow what a performance by the Romanians they were amazing!!!!! Its incredible how they are by far the smallest country out of the top teams in gymnastics (Romania, U.S., Russia and China) and they still manage to get gold. They also have the smallest population and not a fantastic economy, but they can still win. That shows what true talent can really do.
The last time the Romanians were great. Its unbelievable that a short 12 years later, they didn't qualify for Rio. They had to go to a test event. Crazy!!
It is actually a miracle they survived and medalled two Olympics after 1996. Their system was already having many problems. But they snatched bronze too in 2008 and 2012. I am sure they will have a good team for Paris 2024.
Catalina Ponor on floor and beam - just magical to watch. Everything is so clean and beautiful. I love Aly Raisman, but Catalina's floor final routine was more pleasing to the eye (I know the difficulty was lower)
your love AR doesn't even stand the grace of Cătălina, and actually when she competed at "Dancine with the Stars" she was told that she's not a good dancer and she has no feeling and artistry, which it absolutely true. She jumps good, though :-)))
There seemed to be some really great sportsmanship in these games. Compare this lovely scene of congratulations with the Americans' blank faces after their silver in Beijing, or the Russian girls' angry behaviour at the Sydney medal ceremonies. This is a really nice moment :)
I hate how NBC Commentators say that "Americans gave romanians the opportunity for the gold". That's so unfair and untrue. Why can't they just say that the romanians were superior and compliment them? THEY gave themselves that opportunity. Period.
@@kunalnagarkoti9662 I hope you don't mean that now. USA has dominated for years now and Romania can't even qualify for the Olympics anymore. I hope they get better someday, but saying "USA sucks" is based on your bias (the same kind of bias OP was complaining about) and not based on fact in any way.
beacuse most of the americans suffer of what is called "american exceptionalism" and they are made to believe, starting at early age, that USA is the best in absolutely everything...
The Americans would have had a better chance, had they not made so many mistakes that night. But I agree that they didn't *lose* the gold: the Romanians won it. To this day I hate Carly: she was a selfish competitor who was good at delivering for herself in the individual finals, but had an off night during the team finals, where she might have reached out to help teammate McCool win the gold medal, after failing to qualify for the all-around. And that's why I love Gabby so much: she went 4-for-4 during the team finals in London, thereby helping Jordyn enjoy a moment of glory, after failing to qualify for the all-around.
Glad Romania showed the US how to do it after the US team showed bad sportsmanship when they won the gold in Anaheim 2003 (especially Carly, she being main reason why they lost the gold).
oh how i love romania at these olympics they were just flawless i hope they cAN have another olympics like 2004 and 2004 was the last olympics that seemed really interesting to me 2008 was great but just not as interesting
I think was mariana bitang said to oana ban before she went on floor "nu te baga prea tare" which translates to something like " don*t push to hard" loved that
Actually, I think it's usually the BBC that is on here (If you're talking about RUclips) due to copyright issues. And I get that a lot of people don't like NBC because they make everything overly dramatic, don't get their facts straight, and don't show the unknown gymnasts. But I don't think that silence is really that big of an issue. They can talk after the routine and during the replays. But yes, it is true that they really need to show all of the gymnasts.
I'm sure I'm missing something that's obvious, so apologies if so. Courtney McCool didn't actually compete on anything, but still is included in the team silver?
Well it is partially true...it's like these recent Olympics in 2012 how Russia gave the US a huge opportunity for gold. The US hit their routines wonderfully, but without the mistakes by Russia, it would've been a much closer race and Russia could've possibly gotten gold. It is true, though, that the US was better than Russia that day. Ditto for how Maroney gave Isbaza opportunity to get gold on vault. Isbaza is awesome on on vault, but without Maroney's fall she couldn't have touched gold.
I mean the us beat russia by 4 points so had they had a cleaner beam rotation and floor it still probably wouldn't have made the difference, but it would've been within a point
Russia should've lost the silver to Romania, after the disastruous Floor rottion, but, once again Neli Kim pulled her magic and kept them on 2nd place, undeservingly so...
While it was definitely bad for the Americans to not be as friendly, i find it extremely hypothetical for you to act like the russians didn't do the same to the romanians in the Sydney olympics when they got silver. Always have to hate Americans though ig
NBC commentators are so shit. Complete silence during the exercises? What, you're not going to tell me what passes they're doing or anything?? And I have literally no idea what teams were in this final except the top 4, because no one ever mentioned them ...
Every victory is a combination of luck and performance. Lilia Podkopayeva could not have won the AA in 1996 so easily, had it not been for the mistakes of her competitors; ditto for Andreea Raducan in 2000 and Carly Patterson in 2004.
Lilia had won because she was not penalized for her touching the lower bar during here UB routine in the AA event, like Carly during the TF. Same with Carly, she was given 9.287 (UB TF) after at least 3 huge mistakes, and after the american comentators had the audacity to say about the romanian team that should be penalized (UB TF) for their handstands and for small leg separations :-)))
@@Q_from_Star_Trek I always thought that the judges were generous in the scores they awarded Lilia: look at her beam routine during the AA at the 1995 Worlds in Sabae: she had a huge balance break which was (in perhaps their defense) was not easily visible from their angle. You may be right that her mistake on bars in the 199t6 AA was another example of a non-deduction that should have been a deduction. But my point was that had Simona Amanar matched her performances (and scores) from the optionals (the second day of the team competition), she would have surpassed Lilia for the gold medal.
@@Q_from_Star_Trek Which is like saying that Mary Lou Retton won in 1984 because she was not penalized for touching the mat during her floor routine during the second day of the team competition (the optionals). She scored a 9.9 because three of the four judges didn't see her mistake (for which she should have scored at most 9.7). As it was, that gave her an extra carryover of 0.1 heading into the all-around finals (the Old Life rule applied back then): her advantage over Ecaterina Szabo should have been only 0.05, instead of 0.15. As it was, the latter actually outscored her 39.75 to 39.65 on the night of the AA finals. Do the math, and you would have had that Szabo would have actually defeated Retton for the gold medal by 0.05, had Retton been properly deducted for her floor mistake during the team competition.

And if you hate NBC so much, don't watch. It's better than listening to your complaining-nobody's forcing you to watch this in the first place.
Catalina Ponor is one of the best gymnasts ever! Bravo, Cata. We miss you in Olympics and WC.
The Romanians were on fire in this competition. A well deserved win for the whole team.
The tears on Monica Rosu is so moving, their hard work finally payed off!
❤❤
Well deserved for Romania. This was the last Romanian team that was truly in sync with one another.

While I agree sportsmanship is important, I don’t think that’s entirely true in this case. At 6:58 you see them, especially Carly, looking grumpy.
They were PERFECTION. Not even the smallest insicurity! Amazing.
i love sofronie's dance and style!
the best gymnasts are romanians! i love romania! greetings from chile...
So proud i'm from Romania !
the music of Oana Ban is "Conga" by Gloria Estefan
Oan Ban, how amazing is she!?!?!?!!
Ponor is amazing
Oana Ban incredible routine!!
Catalina and Svetlana standing side by side on the podium. One at number 1, one at number 3.

Am luat bronz si anul acesta! Sunt mandra ca suntem tot in top, e minunat! :')

what`s the name of the song from the first gimnast?

She participated in the qualifying rounds which require five gymnasts and was part of the team so she gets her medal just as any other team member.

I recognize Oana Ban's music as being from a Gloria Estefan song but I don't know if that's it's original source haha.
To many Olympic athletes, Silver medal means "1st Loser".
I love how the Russians are clapping and smiling for the Romanians and the Yankees just sit there sulking. Classy.
