Fitness trackers are more affordable and functional than ever. And I try review the most capable and budget-friendly devices on the market.
Expectetions were that the Huawei Band 4 is going to be more or less the same as the well known bother or sister brand - Honor - with the Band 5 series - but it is not.
Let’s quickly unbox it: good signature and box by Huawei, way better than what happened with the Mi Band 4 unboxing; inside - there’s the fitness tracker, a short user guide, and that’s it. Huawei have reengineered the charging port. It’s not revolutionary, because other fitness trackers have similar implementation, but it is one of the rare occasions where you have a physical lock button on the band. You actually have to depress this button and the mechanism will let you easily unlock and get to the charging port. This idea is brilliant, of course it is too early to say about the durability of this approach, but so far for two weeks, including sleeping, doing sports, showering - I’ve noticed no issues at all.
91mah battery, good for 7 days of usage, modified Bluetooth 4.2, water resistant, and very lightweight. Most of it is plastic, the display is luckily covered by glass, and the band is silicone rubber. In terms of design - it is very good looking, and if Mi Band is too roundish for you, this could appear to be more attractive.
The processor is Appolo3 - same as used in Honor bands generation 4 and 5 - therefore responsiveness is comparable.
Navigation is quite easy - capacitive button - which acts as a home button, swipe up and down to go through the menus, swipe right for quick access to the notifications, swiping left appears to do nothing. I noticed that as soon as you get more notifications - it may take around a second the panel to show up. Actually this is one of the features I like the most - the way these notifications are grouped.
Sleep tracking is very precise - and as mentioned earlier - it has detected two day-naps I’ve had. Which makes me think that it will probably detect if you are sleeping during the day - something that for example Mi Band and Amazfit devices famously fail to do . Probably it is among the best in its class about that, and likely with the latest firmware, the Honor Band 5 can do the same.
Battery life is the component that didn’t impress - with sleep tracking and continuous heartrate, and notifications - it is only around a week. Luckily - charging is very easy, and for the first time this year - one of the more serious brands comes up with a good device that has a USB port.
Heartrate measuring is also superb. Waterproofness is good, but - despite the fact it is waterproof, there’s no swimming mode in the workout section.
The Huawei Band 4 is really good; Sure - battery life is not as great as the phenomenal Mi Band 4 endurance, but for fitness tracking Huawei Band 4 is in its own league. Some minor things that could be addressed with firmware updates - like the missing swimming mode, music controls, and maybe - control for the screen on time duration. Other than that - it is an awesome basic tracker to have.

A review this good at 67k subs? Wow, keep it up man, you're doing a really great job. It can be seen that you put a lot of work in your videos.
Thanks a ton!
I have been using both bands for quite some time. In the beginning, the Xiaomi excelled, until Huawei started adding features. Now, in my opinion, the Xiaomi excels in three areas only:
1) longer battery life.
2) Having the "Pool Swimming" workout (which is still not available on the Huawei Band 4, but there's a workaround where you can choose "Free Training", it will monitor your heart rate, but it will not count the strokes).
3) Sharper screen resolution (which is not a big deal for me).
4) The much wider options of watch faces (which is not a big deal for me).
Huawei Band 4 excels in many other areas, e.g. the much more advanced sleep tracking, the innovative charging port (I don't have to worry about losing the charging cable or carrying it around with me), the Huawei Health app is much more advanced, and the latest firmware update added the SpO2 measurement on the Huawei Band 4. Plus the option to take photos with it without third party app (unlike the Mi Band 4).
In my opinion, the Huawei Band 4 wins!
You almost did an entire comparison review! 🙃
Taking photo doesn't work in my Emui 9, but the biggest problem, no export data to file or Strava. On the other side, Zepp doesn't provide editable heart zones in sport watches, lol.
You replied to every coment question, outstanding, bravo and good luck..
I do my best to keep an eye on the comments. Sometimes responses are slow, but better late than never 😎
This looks good cause I keep whacking the curved screen of mi band on things while walking... prefer flat screens
This is the exact shape my wife wanted few years ago. But the only good band was the Mi Band 2... I also like the shape, but probably prefer the Honor Band 5.
Thanks for such a good video man
I can tell you put effort into your videos
Stay safe :)
I appreciate that, Tony! And stay safe too :-)
8:02 this chart is incorrect. Band 4 has both the music control & SpO2 sensor / measuring feature.
I think you might be talking about the HB4-Pro. This is the one I have.
@@ashleelmb I can understand why you'd think that, but I'm not talking about the pro version. The exact model is: ADS-B29.
Interestingly, the box doesn't advertise the SpO2 sensor though, and claims the band has 9 workout modes even though it has 8.. but it's a minor thing.
@@vex9596 Ah, fair enough. No problem mate 👍🏻
Thanks mate, will check that.
The sceen is not OLED , is TFT. The difference is pretty big if you compare side by side with Honor Band 5 or Mi Band 4. And the nap recording during the day is an ok feature if they let you remove incorect naps recording. My Honor Band 5 keeps recording naps when i am at my work siting at my desk.
You are correct, excuse the inaccuracy - the screen is TFT indeed.
Looks like you should not take any naps while working! 👍😎 (and - that's quite unfortunate to hear, hopefully it will get more accurate in time)
Very well explained.. Subscribed👍keep up the good work💯👌
Thanks Ricardo! Will do!
Excellent review. Such good articulation and elaboration on the various aspects of a budget fitness band. I don't subscribe to many channels, but I am glad to support you and subscribe. Keep up the high quality content!
Very kind of you to say all that! Much appreciated and you did make a man smile.
@@TechMishka I just bought the Huawei Band 4 too!
I have both huawei band 4 and honor band 5, i just wish that honor band 5 had the same strap & charging mechanism of the huawei b 4... and btw my honor b 5 does have music control.
btw, for you guys that looking for built in GPS, i think huawei band 3 pro have it (and of course Huawei b 4 pro too)
Which one is better huawei band 4 or honor band 5?
@@gilanchoubachy2968 Spec wise, Honor band 5 is better. ( it have spo2 meter & amoled disp).
So does this thing have an outdoor cycling mode in workouts section
Yes. However if your phone is not connected, it won't provide any GPS data.
Call and music control, sleep, sms what's up notification, and obviously calories counter.
Thanks for sharing, mate! 😇🙃
THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION: Can I set up intervals 2:00min work / 0:30 min rest and do it in the cycle all over again - continuously???? Does the band has sound notification when the interval begins/stops???? These are the most important features... for me to have running intervals and to improve "time managing skills in life" And while runnning you can not be free from your smartphone because you will not have measured the distance etc???? You have to run with the smartphone in your pocket??
1. No intervals setting option
2. No speaker - only way to notify is using vibrations
You may want to check the Honor Band 4 Pro
Great english for a Bulgarian! Very useful video. Thank u mate :)
Glad you liked it!
I like the way you speak. Thanks for the video. 👍🏻
Appreciate your support, Saud! 😊
I was searching for someone who really compares both, the Honor band 5 and the Huawei band 4, although the Huawei Band 4 Pro which will be presented 12/12/19,it might be a good idea to see that too, just of its Amoled screen instead of the TFT of the normal version. Cool review.
Adding this to the list, thanks Hyu Chan.
A good review! Thumbs up and subscribed. How does this huawei band 4 compare to honor band 5i then?
Haven't had the 5i so far - but they look similar; Good idea to wait a little longer for Honor Band 6.
i ordered huawei band 4 today your review helped a lot love from india
Warmest regards to India, Bhai Giri!
Hey Tech4all, please let me know if you think between Mi band 4 and Huawei band 4e..what should I go for..
I'd probably go for the Mi Band. You can also check Honor Band 4 - a superb device.

THanks a lot for the kind words!
The Mi Band 4 is an outstanding device - and even a few months after being released - hard to beat in terms of functions and battery life.
Awsome review ❤️

Better sleep tracking and universal charge port is definitely better than longer battery life. But in any case these fitness bands are only toys for me. I use my mi band 3 mostly as a simple watch. Thank you Micheal for your great work!
In fact I was disregarding many of the band features for a long time. Until I discovered how much they can help me to plan my sleeping. I can easily plan to go to bed earlier if I know I haven't slept much on previous days.
How does the battery perform of the Mi Band 3 after a while?
@@TechMishka I do not use my band for training. So it last on 50% of battery 2-3 weeks. I have used my band around for 1 year now.
music control for Huawei Band 4 is added with 1.0.2.78 firmware update
I was looking for this! How can you update it's firmware??
@@renzojohn06 you have to update it on the phone app
Thanks mate! Imma buy this tomorrow.
hi there, i am planning to buy this one and thus i would like to know if we always need to connect the phone to this smart band to keep it working. i mean in my office i have to lock my phone in different floor and work in some other floor. will i be able to just check the time on it as a regular watch or do i have to keep phone with me always
?? kindly reply , thanks and regards ..
There's no need the phone to be connected. As soon as the devices get close to each other, the band automatically reconnects and syncronizes the data.
If they are connected, you will get notifications in real time. If they are disconnected - there are no notifications, but the rest works normally, and you can start sports activities, track heartrate, etc.
How high does the stop watch time up to? I know the miband only goes up to 99min. Is there any music control? Ex able to control volume or skip songs that are playing on your phone?
Not sure about the stopwatch limit. As for music control - it is supported.
взех си същата и съм много доволен,показва всичко от което имам нужда-калорий,крачки,сън,съобщения,
сърдечен ритъм.Добро ревю
Радвам се, че Ви допада. Huawei имат отлични фитнес гривни и часовници.
Is it accurate when running without using the phone GPS? Like for playing sports, is it pretty accurate?
Not really.
My mi band 4 is too big for my small wrist. Is this one smaller or same with the mi band?
It is a little smaller;
If you prefer something really small - Samsung Galaxy Fit (e)
@@TechMishka Thank you for the reply. Although the features in huawei, honor, or xiaomi is better, I opt to Galaxy fit e. You're right is much smaller than the mi band.
Thanks for the review. However, I would like to point out that at 3:01 you said it has OLED display which is not. It has LCD display if I am not wrong..
You are not wrong - looks like Huawei has decide to sell it with LCD for the indian region.
@@TechMishka Not only India. European version is LCD too.
@@TechMishka the UK version also has a LQ display, the pro version does have an amoled display though
It is functionally similar to the Honor 5i, both have removable bands and both charge directly to usb ports. The main difference is the Honor has sp02 measuring, both have differently shaped capacitive buttons and the actual straps have a different texture design.
Good comparison, thanks Kervin
Kervin Lopez : In Brazil Band 4 is announced these days at Huawei’s website as having sp02 measuring. For me this is a critical buying factor. Do you happen to know if Huawei upgraded it recently to incorporate it ? Thks

I just purchased this today...and 7 days battery life is fine for me. It's not hard work or inconvenient to charge it for an hour and a half once a week. The statistics it's throws out is quality...can't really ask for more at that price. I watched it this upload after purchasing it so it's reinforced my positive opinion of the Huawei Band 4...really enjoyed the video. Thanks....
Thanks John. It one of the very good fitness trackers out there!
Does it have an interval counter that can be used under water? Kinda why I'm looking into buying a smartwatch (I know I could probably just find a stop watch, but other features are appreciated too).
It will be rather useless - because water triggers ghost touches. For swimming better get a watch that is controller with buttons - like Garmin.
Huawei 4 - is it have alarm mode ?
Sorry for disturbing you, thanks a lot for great video 😀
Not disturbing at all! 😇
There is an alarm option - it is based on vibration.
Can Bluetooth, NFC, BR be disabled to save as much battery as possible by using them as traditional digital watches (getting the current date & time mainly) ?
Unfortunately you cannot...
where can i buy screens protectors? good review
Thanks mate! Usually there are plenty of good accessories on Aliexpress
@@TechMishka Thank you!
Which models are more better between huawei band 4 or samsung fit
Both are excellent trackers.
I have a question. There is 9 workout moods like outdoor/indoor running, etc. One of them is free workout. What does it exactly means? If I'm doing type of workout that is not option on the band, can I pick 'free workout" (for example I' m doing cardio, or HIIT, or strenght workout)? Is it reliable in that case?
I believe that is what this mode is for yes, unsure on the accuracy of this.
usually these modes are meant for random exercises. Not the most accurate on the world 😉
Can i go running without my phone?! Does it tell the distance runned? Tnx
You can run without the phone, however it will count the distance and steps based on the accelerometer. If you need precise tracking - your best shot is to have the phone with you so that the band can leverage the GPS signal.
In a case that you have Huawei Mate 20 lite, is much better option Huawei Band 4, becouse sofrware is integrated? Is any difference in band quality, your opinion? Thank you.
Unfortunately I don't have that phone, but it certainly works well with the Band 4.
It has Music Control now
Very nice, good to hear that!
Huawei band 4? If yes, where do u find it on the watch
My band 4 has started to stop tracking when exercising. I went for a long walk yesterday and it was tracking fine upto 14 Kilometres then just stopped. I started tracking again and it tracked for the last 3.5 Kilometres,. Any ideas as to why this is happening?
Perhaps it was the phone that was killing the app in the meanwhile.
@@TechMishka Is there anyway to stop that?
You reviewed both honor band 5, huawei band 4 and xiaomi band 4... Please tell me which one should I prefer, which one is better??
I'd choose between Honor Band 5 and Mi Band 4.
Is this band is reusable like normal watches cause I got warranty for it
Reusable in what sense?
I want to buy one for my mother, let me get your recommendations please ; huawei band 4 or honor 5? Fitness tracking is not a real steal. Just notifications, sleep tracking, reading under sunlight and heart rate tracking and maybe spo2. Thanks in advance.
Both are similar, with the Honor Band 5 having better display.
@@TechMishka thanks for your reply, have a nice&healthy week 😷👍🙏
Though the Xiaomi display looks brighter and more vibrant, I really like the styling of the Huawei Band 4 more. Unfortunately, it looks like that line is not so much intended for the U.S. market. It seems like Huawei intends their Honor devices for the U.S., as the Honor Band 5 is widely available on Amazon's U.S. site. Since the Xiaomi 4 wins out feature-wise, that's probably the choice I'd make, anyway. I just wish someone would make a rubber strap for it that also has a magnetic clasp. Magnetic clasp almost always gurarantees a metallic strap. I like those but would like to see them available in aluminum or titanium, and not just stainless steel. Magnetci clasps just give a quicker, easier, and more precise fit, IMO.
Interesting to read thoughts! Thanks for sharing all that.
@@TechMishka BTW, the PRO version of the Huawei Band 4 has clinched it for me, since they upgraded it to AMOLED. Even though I have to get it from China, that's pretty straightforward on eBay, these days. There was only one listing for it on Amazon (my preferred method), but it appears to be defunct already.
... and, of course, let's not forget the PRO has also added music control, SPO2, and built-in GPS!
Excellent review 👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you! 👍
I have just returned my mi band 4 , honor millions times accurate especially for working out and sleeping
Yeah, huawei have stepped up their game in tracking sleep.
And parents probably bought me mi band 4 for Christmas.
The nap functionality isn't there yet. It registers 30-45minutes naps just sitting behind my desk working. It also doesn't always knows when I'm at wake at night for some time.
Im still torn between this two. What would you recommend for cycling? I prefer the watch with a better heart rate sensor for showing calories burned.
Which is the other one? This one is definitely a good choice.
@@TechMishka I was referring to the xiaomi, but thanks for your suggesiton!
When you'll say the mi band 4 sells at $40, does that include delivery?
In South Africa we pay $53 incl delivery, and taxes.
The price is something that often changes. Check with the websites you've found it at.
Does the watch measure blood pressure?
No, it doesn't. For reliable Blood pressire measurement - think about getting Galaxy Active 2 by Samsung.
Is Heart rate monitor on Huwaei band 4 is accurate? , can we rely on that ??.
Yes, it is an accurate HR sensor.
Hi mister tech all I just bought a huawei b4 so let's say the battery dies in a few year so can I replace its battery
The battery is not replaceable.
@@TechMishka OK so all I can do is buy a new one when its battery dies right, they should come up with a band with a replaceable battery than will be more helpfull
Is it possible to use other apps to connect Huawei Band 4 except Huawei Health app? I am using Xiaomi mobile and it's unable to install the Huawei health app... Please suggest
Oh, you likely need the Huawei Services framekwork - which is no longer updated in playstore. Download it from apkpure.
Which is better honor band 5 or this One ?
The Honor Band 5 is a better fitness tracker.
Do I need my phone when I'm running out side or I can use it on it's own
It can be on its own. The data will be later on synced with the phone automatically.
Can you use this on other phones?
As long as they are iOS or Android based and have bluetooth - yeah.
Can this be used as a heart rate monitor for strava?
The Huawei Health app has no Strava integration.
What does it charge with?
You can put it it any USB charger.
I got the HB4-Pro for the added on board GPS. I agree that the battery life is a bit shorter than I'd like it but, the tracking efficiency of the heart rate monitor and the cycling is awesome. I've also ordered the Xiaomi Mi band 5 too, to test it and see which I prefer.
Im currently deciding between mi band 5 and huawei band 4. Can u tell me your thoughts on both products?
@@moustous3712 Sure. From my experience...
*Xiaomi Mi Band 5 - pro's:*
- Nice bright amoled screen
- More features than the HB4-Pro in the watch menu's (eg. last 7 days of step count, a choice of 3 on board alarm times)
- Long battery life (Around 8 to 9 days)
- Comfortable silicon strap
- Stress level monitor
- Has many watch faces to choose from in the Xi Fit app
*Mi Band 5 cons:*
- HRM not as accurate as the HB4-Pro HRM
- Not very reliable at recognising naps in the day
- No GPS which means you have to activate GPS on your phone and take your phone with you for the Mi band 5 to stay connected to your phone for it to keep track of your location if you're doing an outdoor workout that needs to measure distance
- Over estimates the amount of calories you've burnt on a workout
- No blood oxygen level reader
- No blood pressure reader
*Huawei Band 4 Pro - pro's*
- Accurate HRM
- Accurate sleep monitor
- Has GPS which means it can be used independently from your phone
- Has blood oxygen level reader
- Has many watch faces to choose from in the Huawei Health app
- Huawei Health App is well presented
*Huawei Band 4 Pro - Cons:*
- Short battery life (Around 4 to 5 days)
- Can be little uncomfortable to wear after a few weeks
- No stress level monitor
- No blood pressure reader
Please note: The above reviews are based on my comparison between the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 vs Huawei Band 4 *Pro* . The Hauwei Band 4 (without the *Pro* ) is not quite the same device and will be missing some of the features of the *Pro* version.
That GPS inside a tracker is a bliss! Really nice device.
@@TechMishka Yeah, I agree. I'm just about ready to re sell my Mi Band 5 now as it's definitely an inferior device to the HB4-PRO. I might try the Honor Band 5 next as I've heard positive reports about that too. I need to check it's reviews first though.

What about the blood O2 level option after update?
I no longer have this band around, so hard for me to say, mate...
hey, it's not waterproof hence the lack of swimming mode, I received it yesterday and the first page of the instructions says "Do not submerge in liquids".
Are you sure it's the same one?
@@TechMishka yes, It says water resistant on the outside packaging but inside it says do not submerge. I've checked online and according to hauwei shallow fresh water activities should be ok but salt and soap will deteriorate its resistance to water and fast moving water such as the shower may damage it.

Hello, what smartband with gps would you recomend? I dont want to go running with my cell phone. No more than 50 usd. Thank you
Look at the Garmin watches, their bread and butter is fitness watches and even include some with with stand alone gps tracking and music. If you want something that looks similar to these I would say the vivosport is best as it has embedded gps. However it does run around 170$ without taxes and shipping. They also include other watches with gps but they do start going up in price.
@@kumaIndigo thank you for your response. However, I dont want to spend that amount of money. I saw that the band 4 pro from Huawei came out and it has gps, but I think right now is only out in China. Thank you!
There was a garmin sale these days and some devices were dirt cheap...
As for running - the Amazfit Verge is perhaps a good option. Some inconsistencies to be expected from the GPS though...
@@TechMishka thank you! Do you know when Huawei 4 band pro will be available in america? Have you tried it yet?
Personally I appreciate the oximeter currently in use on the garmin vivosmart 4 I happen to have. Guessing the Huawei band 5 will sport it. The sleek design is nicer than honor's to my eyes, though vivosmart 4 is still narrower and subtle is all to me.
Reason I find myself looking at other smart bands is the smart alarm clock feature that is entirely missing in garmin vivosmart 4, and no app support as opposed to their watches.
Most users want to wake at most at a certain hour.
In my case I want to get at most x hours of proper resting. Eg. go to sleep and want to sleep 1 cylce (generally 1.5 hours) or 2. My application case is a newborn baby that needs to be fed (or he wakes you up screaming for milk - unexpectedly he drinks even during sleep, a reflex apparently). So this smart timer would be great in this case, for mum and for dad when he takes care of it.
COngrats about your baby! :-) Stay safe!
Huawei band 4 has oximeter too after the software update.
Would it fit a 12 year old wrist?
Yes, it will. Fits well even on a 7-year old wrist.
how do you adjust the time?
The smartphone app will do that for you.
Hy, Huawey band 4 sport works fine with iphone xr ? 10x
The Health app has some limitations with watchfaces, but generally - yeah, works fine.

Hi Marina! There is no need to keep it connected all the time; however it is recommended that the band and the phone get connected at least once per day, so that the information is being synced.

yeah, already there.
Which is better
Honar band 5 vs huawie band 4
Replay me plz
Both of them are pretty accurate. In my opinion the Honor Band 5 is slightly better.
@@TechMishka thanks so much now buying honar band 5
How did he not talk about the step tacking on this thing? I just got myself this device, and the step tracking is hugely inaccurate. I walk 10 steps and it goes 50+ steps increased. Did you not experience that?
You should check the counter and test it with bigger amounts of steps. It's usually described in the user guide - that most trackers keep a buffer and update the steps from time to time, which can trick you in believeing that it overcounts or undercounts.
@@TechMishka Hey, I tried that. But the step count is still inaccurate. I have the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and the step count on my phone and what I get on this watch are hugely different. Now, I understand that there are times that our phones are not with us, but this watch shows 4000 steps on a normal working day which I spend just sitting in the office 9 to 6. I know for a fact there is no way I could have walked 4000 steps just sitting on my desk all day. My phone shows 1300 steps for the same day. Did you experience the inaccuracy with the step count?
Can I receive notification on huawei band 4 even if it is disconnected from Bluetooth on my phone?
No. If there is no bluetooth connection, there's no way the notification to reach it.
Which band should I buy...
Honor band 5
Huwaie band 4
Mi band 4 ????
I'd choose between Honor Band 5 and Mi Band 4.
Why did your watch jump from between 92, 83 and 98 while you were doing the heart rate demo? Do you have a heart issue or is the watch actually not very accurate at all? I actually do have a heart issue and a false reading of 15 beats could be the difference between staying safe or having a trip to A&E.
The difference is caused by the algorithm of measuring - the longer you keep it running, the closer to the reality the number is getting. It is possible that the initial value is a little off and gets more accurate in 10-15 seconds.
@@TechMishka Thanks for the explanation.
should i buy this in 2020
Yeah, it still is a wonderful fitness tracker.
