As good as this video is, it doesn't show what the mall used to be. This was the hang out place on the weekends in the 80's & 90's. The water features, the bird cage, the arcade, putt putt, pizza inn. So many great memories there, hate to see what the mall has turned into now.
This is my hometown mall. I loved the trees, streams, fountains, aviary, and ducks swimming in the streams back when it was first built. Back then you could spend almost the whole day there and not get bored! I moved away from the MOV in the mid 80's and revisited after the remodel. It looked so generic, and still looks generic in this video. The video is 2 yrs. old now...I wonder if the mall is still thriving like this?
My hometown mall. I grew up going here often. Friday50 nights were spent at Zide's Sport Shop, The Escape Hatch for video games, and National Record Mart to see what $10 could buy. The food court was opened in 1996. The Dunham's/Steve and Berry's/Phar Mor, I believe, opened in 1992. This was originally a corridor going to the parking lot, and had The Escape Hatch arcade. The management here is top notch. Once they lose a store, they're doing what they can to get a new one in as is the case with the three new ones replacing the original Sears anchor. I've also heard the JC Penney is one of the busier ones in the district. Looking forward to seeing this mall turn 50 next summer just like me
Yes, this mall is amazing at staying alive! Compared to other malls around the area, Grand Central Mall seems to be doing awesome! I love my little mall! I remember Steve and Berry's. I always got a shirt there. JCPennys always seems busy every time I'm there. I do miss Elder Beerman. It's now H&M. I think that the Grand Central Mall is pretty much the only place to go to around here, and that is what keeps people coming to the mall.
Arlans (just down GC Avenue) in the Park Shopping Center always had the best album selection in the 1970s. I bought many there for 50¢. Then go over and play slot cars in the north end of what's now Rural King. Fun times...
Memories: I lost an action figure in JCPenny. I had it one moment the next it was gone, the old movie theatre, had to go down stairs they had arcade Rambo, met a woman while checking out at Sears and we went and seen Roadtrip...
I remember the aviary! And the wishing pond complete with a bridge and ducks that were in the pond as well! I think it cost too much to maintain, so they did away with all those cool things!
Ah! Vienna, West Virginia. I hear they finally got a Popeye's now. Last time I was here, the mall was the only thing on that strip. Looks pretty busy, today
I love the grand central mall; however, management is a bit of an issue. Party City is closing because the mall is waiting for a shoe store to come in. A shoe store, that hasn't even agreed to come yet. They did the same with the cookie store before whits. It's almost like they purposefully kill stores. Great video by the way!!
Another great video DG. Nice to hear something good about WV. I always hear sad stuff and how poor some of it is. What are some states you'd like to check out for malls that you haven't seen yet Doomie?
@@DoomieGruntVentures the upper midwest is a great place for interesting malls. May I suggest Madison, Wisconsin? There you have the East Towne Mall; a mall that's very much alive, but it's anchoritis has essentially killed an entire wing. It's a tale of two malls there. Madison also has the Westgate mall that shuttered last summer. Not sure how much you'll get to explore, but worth checking out. Also, nearby, there's Uptown Janesville, in Janesville, WI, not far from Madison. It's one of the most pristine malls I've seen in a while
I'd trade some editing quality for the quantity you pump out my guy. Dan Bell might put a bit more time into each episode, but he's got nothing on you as far as video count. Perhaps that's not totally fair, you do put a lot more work into these than I remember.
I just want to do a simple & easy to digest format for people. Everyone else, excluding names I can count on one hand, seems more interested in running cults and/or overproducing like they're the next popular Netflix show. As for Dan, I kept going after 2017 and 2018 because he quit producing, and the few malls he was uploading were of extremely cynical takes that just became distasteful. I kept going cause that was a drought I couldn't live with.
@@DoomieGruntVentures Yes please do keep up the good work. Far as Dan he killed his goodwill with many fans including myself by insulting people in the comments sections, instead of doing content he kept promising over, and over again, then he pissed around, and did those dirty motel videos of pee soaked mattresses, and dunkiness, and that was when I was done.
I found decent interest out of the ADR series for awhile. But then by season two, I learned pretty quick he was going out of his way for shock content, which was the defining factor for me that lead to unsubbing.
@@DoomieGruntVentures Yep that's about right when I tuned out as well, and it was during that time he did a live stream walking around a Walmart in the middle of the nite(I was up, as I could not sleep), and he was insulting people again, along with making excuses for this & that, and that was the very last thing I watched from him, and everytime YT tries to recommend a video from him I click not interested. lol!

Yes it is still thriving, still tons of people when i go there alot.

The aviary was awesome. Totally forgot about that. Thanks for the amnesiac stroll down memory lane.

Any mall space can be turn around and made into valuable space again. With a waiting list for the next 50 years.
Bland looking mall but clean looking. Good video. Thanks.
I grew up in that mall through the 80s and early 90s. It was absolutely amazing!
According to Wikipedia, three of the four new tenants opened in March of 2021.
Doomie does it again, another great video.
I like how they at least have the kiosks advertising stores in the mall and they're not just shrouded or empty :)

This mall is looks very nice. Upon looking on Google Maps looks the Elder Beerman space has some water damage.
This was my childhood mall. Der Dog Haus (a hot dog place) was a goldmine.

similar to A Work Of Heart sadly
It looks like most of the store fronts are occupied
I used to go to this mall on occasion as a kid. Interesting to see it again.
Oh dang i never knew u went to my mall lol
@@So1 I used to have family that lived in Parkersburg. Sadly they have since moved to Florida.
Great video man!
wow, we also have a Grand Central here in Manila called Gotesco Grand Central and it's been closed, and it just reopen as a SM Grand Central.
Another great video DG. Nice to hear something good about WV. I always hear sad stuff and how poor some of it is. What are some states you'd like to check out for malls that you haven't seen yet Doomie?
I'm aiming for the northern midwest as well as cleaning up parts of New England no one else will go to.

I go there all the time lol
Just out of curiosity, what camera model do you use to film these malls? It's a really good camera and has great stabilization.
I use an action camera with stabilizing software. Since this one has been doing so well, I've skipped last year for upgrading to the next model.
Por que esta tan sola esa plaza 😮😢😱 y el HyM es grande y se ve que no hay gente que pasa en ese mall!!!???
They must not have a mallwalker hour where you come from...

crossroads was doing good untill covid hit now its sad
What really is doing well these days outside of the big box retailers like Walmart, Target, Krogers, etc., or online like Amazon, eBay, etc..?
i live there

The next lockdown will finish off this mall once and for all.
