I hydro locked a s10 zr2 back in the day hood went under just like that mid high rpm range and bent a rod. Spent every penny I had fixing that thing as a teen after that no more off roading in a daily driver.
You learned your lesson the first time? I went through 6 trucks, 5 engines, 3 transmissions, a spare tire hanger punching a hole in my fuel tank, multiple 5+ mile walks for help, overnight stays in places I've been stuck, and yet I still didn't learn what I was doing wrong until I got married to a woman that enjoys letting me know everything I do wrong!
The battery cable coming off is what probably saved the engine lol

I have a F250 with the 5.4 Triton. It was my only pickup for years. Mine is a 2002 that I bought in ‘04. It got half way decent milage for a 3/4 ton for a year or so until they started with the ethanol blend. Then it was schoolbus milage. In the old days, if you had a 460 or 454, you knew you weren’t going to have good milage, but at least you had power. The 5.4 had neither. Plus it was the only gas engine I ever had that would blow sparkplugs out of the soft aluminum head. It ruined me from Ford pickups and I bought a 10 year old Dodge with the original 5.9 Cummins 3 years ago. I’ve had my aggravations with that as well!

The 03 2v 5.4 is reliable asf n plenty power and torque in the f150! I had one and ran like a champ with 230k miles on it. No rebuilds

The 260HP 5.4L is a great engine in the F150's.....not great for 3/4 or 1-ton trucks. Just like a 4.3 V6 is shit in a chevy express van, but great in an S10. All make some bad engine choices for vehicles.
Girls friends super duty has a stock 5.4 on 37s with 373 gears. Tows trucks just fine and the cost to drive it isnt that bad. I got a fully built 7.3 with a built trans that outruns it like hell but theres nothing her truck cant do reasonably. I'd say they are fine but people just want huge power. Does it better then my old idi ever did
I got an 04 ranger that is now making about the same power as this truck😂
5.4 Super poopies are great trucks for landscapers and plow guys. tough and cheap

my dad ran his 2002 f150 with the 5.4 2v to 365k, with nothing but alternator and starter replacements, it's now a bush truck (frame snapped in half, welded it) and still running fine.
I've got a pristine condition '99 F-250 with 55k on the clock in my garage with that 5.4. He's right about the motor being weak. Funny thing is, the 6-cylinder engine in my Chevy Trailblazer makes more power.
My i5 Colorado makes 220

99 and 2000 5.4 motor makes 225hp, 2001 through 2004 make 265hp (had better PI heads and intake) after that the 3valve 5.4 went to 300hp

I was worried there for a second since water and gas don't mix.
My own funny Ford truck story goes like this......I had a 2000 6 cyl ford ranger a while back and got a little too confident thinking the truck was high enough to go through standing flood water that I thought it could handle. Little did I know there was a pothole/ ditch in the asphalt that made it just deep enough to lower me a few more inches resulting in water going in the air intake. I got out of it driving, but the engine blew a piston. That 3.0 sounded like a diesel tug boat all the way home. Yeah, a snorkel for the air intake or a lift kit with larger tires would have been great going home from work that day. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The 5.4 does just fine in Kevin (our F-150). Kevin is also a 1997, so, first year 5.4.
How did ford get so little power out of the 5.4? Here in Australia we put 4 valve heads on it, a tune and reliably got 420hp out of it. Then some people supercharged it and got over 1000hp out of it.

Random question Westen, you got a dual driveshaft assembly with a 45 1/4" rear laying around for the ole AOD trans? Got a nice 95 f150 extended cab, long bed needing a new driveshaft, or possibly an Idea on a single shaft? Or what to pull it from? Open to answers from anyone. 139" wheelbase, so kind of a tall order surprisingly.
4 inch lift and 35's will do the trick. good luck and keep us posted.

I'm from Tn most of my stuff still has factory primer on the frame and floor pans and their 80's and 90's trucks.
Smooth Trooper no rockers is rust free my boy those 88-98 chevys are everywhere and they all have rust around the back wheel and rockers gone

4:36 no, I know 🤔 those r for the hood release sometimes when the handle is broken, I use a stick to hold the hood open and then store it anywhere it fits in the engine compartment when done, good to know I learned something new watching this video 👍

Speed and water is a bad combo. Engines dont like water in them
But they have coolant passages they just don't like swallowing.
I had a 2009 f150 with the triton, and it was the biggest mistake I ever loved! I bought it with 161 000 miles on it (260 000km here in Canada) and it definitely had that Canadian weight reduction upgrade. By the time it unceremoniously died, it had slimmed down quite a lot too. I still miss it though, and if I buy another pickup, it'll be a ford.
Bonus for you - Look up a song by a group from Newfoundland Canada called "Dear Mr Ford". The group is called Buddy Wassissname and the Other Fellers. I promise you won't be disappointed. I feel so strongly about that, that I'm gonna keep suggesting it until I find out that you listened to it
No here in America the fords natural habitat is in a shop hibernating.
If I wanted to find an F150 in its natural habitat I would start at a junkyard or a repair shop.
2v 5.4 were fairly reliable don't know what your going on about
