    Like I mentioned in the spreadsheet, Three, blocks of coal coke are more fuel efficient than pieces of coal coke. Not that coal veins aren't common, super dense and/or that cooking coal coke takes a ton of effort, but saved fuel is saved fuel.
    Another backpack that *might* be worth investing in, possibly, is a Builder's Backpack. It stores a random mish-mash of building blocks, stuff like pressure plates and doors and whatnot, but more importantly it holds Torches. 15 stacks of them, and backpacks can auto-fill items in your hotbar. Magnum Torches are still a ways away, and while Chandeliers (Magnum Torches that trade effective area for style points, basically) are available as early as LV they're not necessarily the cheapest of items to spam. Torches are, and will always remain, cheap.
    A note on processing ores this early: Hammering ores in-world does not ore double, and also does not benefit from any Fortune enchant (such as a Thaumium hammer, if you happen to find six Thaumium early on). As such it's not worth doing for most ores, since smelting the ore directly gives the same yield as smelting the pure dust form, and without using a ton of hammer durability. Of course there are exceptions. First, some ores (most notably Redstone and Coal) *will* gain an increased yield from being hammered as opposed to smelted directly - you can check this ingame by looking at the ore's recipes in NEI. The yield you get from crushing an ore in-world is the same as the yield from a Forge Hammer, which is the automated version of crushing ores in-world. And yes, there are Steam Forge Hammers. Second, smelting pure crushed ore (so only crushed iron ore, not crushed limonite or crushed magnetite) yields ten nuggets instead of one ingots. This is an increased yield, technically, but the added step of having to turn the nuggets back into ingots makes this process not worth the extra yield. The exception to that is iron nuggets, since your initial source of Wrought Iron is smelting iron nuggets into wrought iron nuggets, and combining that into wrought iron ingots. Smelting crushed iron ore into nuggets thus saves you a step of having to convert iron ingots into nuggets, and gives you a slightly higher yield to boot. Third, it should be noted that while a Steam Macerator will double ores there's two situations where you don't want to use it over a Steam Forge Hammer, despite the ore doubling. One is for "gem" ores, such as coal, diamonds, lapis, etc., since the macerator will always output crushed ores and turning crushed ores into gems in the steam age is difficult if not impossible. Not great for keeping your coke ovens fed. Two is that the steam macerator is slower than molasses, whereas a forge hammer is super fast. Consider whether the extra ore yield is worth the extra processing time, because ores are plentiful in any case. Inefficient to be efficient 🙃.
    It's 72 calcite for your *first* Bricked Blast Furnace. From that point forward you can start wallsharing them, making the second and third one cheaper than the first, the fourth one cheaper still, and from there it alternates between cheaper and even cheaper. Calcite is also a perfect example of macerate vs. forge hammer - takes more time to process, but it's not plentiful to find, so macerating is worth it. But iron? Literally everywhere, and you'll likely get more digging up other ores. Perhaps forge hammer is good enough.
    If you have a stone brick based Roguelike Dungeon nearby there's a chance that it'll contain a secret room which has some furnaces and hoppers inside. A very nice and worthwhile find early on, but don't underestimate the danger of roguelike dungeons this early. They are packs with mobs wall to wall, especially the lower levels, and 1.7 health regen does not allow you to step back, eat a loaf of bread and regenerate your arm in five seconds.
    For solar boilers it's better to wait on High Pressure solar boilers as they produce more steam per silver ingot than regular ones, and silver at this point is not easy to get. That said there is a quest to craft a regular solar boiler gating the quest for high pressure solar boilers, so crafting one to grab some sandwiches and coins from the quest rewards isn't a bad idea. Especially because early on you're going to be wanting more steam anyway, so might as well put the regular solar boiler to work while it matters most.
    Tough Spiders...reflect melee damage? That wasn't an Infernal one with Vengeance, although it did have some particle effects. Not sure what happened there in all honesty, but I think lesson thoroughly learned regardless: Do not engage Tough Spiders. They live up to their title.
    It's very worthwhile investing in some kind of fluid tank in order to store steam, likely a Railcraft tank, in order to have a battery of steam available. Note that Railcraft tanks will auto-output if the valve is in the bottom layer, so you don't necessarily need a GT pump to extract the steam from one.
    You're definitely going to want multiple bricked blast furnaces, but note that you don't have to craft all of them in the Steam age. LV machines will make crafting them much easier, so you can only craft one or two (preferably two) in the Steam age and craft the rest after you've made some LV machines. BBFs also have other uses than cooking iron into steel and won't be replaced until a bit into MV at the earliest, so don't be afraid to craft a bunch of them. They'll come in handy, one way or another.
    Ore Finder Wands will accept either ores or ingots, and detect the relevant veins. They can also be used to search for Lootgames or particular stone types if you're searching for either of those. Note that Ore Finder Wands do stop working once you reach the Moon and later dimensions, but by that point you should have *long* renamed your old Ore Finder Wand to Random Block Finder Wand.
    Another useful tip with covers is that you can cover things like steam pipes, and they'll stop burning you. That is if they ever *started* burning you. Not sure why Three gets a free pass on touching boiling hot steam pipes, but it's not like the game isn't taking revenge over it 🙃. You can use plates or, more efficiently, foils as covers.
    That random player head that I'm assuming Three got as a quest reward from a Lootgames information quest, by the way? Keep a hold of it. Player heads are one of the best items to place on a Witchery Altar, and barring your own horrible deaths that's the easiest one to get.
    Bricked Blast Furnaces only accept charcoal, coal, or coal coke. Blocks of coal coke is definitely the fuel you want to use for cooking steel, since it smelts faster than non-coke fuels and blocks of course have that little extra fuel efficiency. Also worth noting is that while running a BBF spawns a bit of lava inside it, not something you can pick up with a bucket but something that can set nearby wood on fire. So do be careful with that.
    Something very worth noting is that making Alumite in the Smeltery is basically a waste of resources. You can craft Alumite Dust to get a 5:2:2:8 ratio of alu:steel:obsidian:alumite, as opposed to the smeltery's 5:2:2:2 ratio. This more efficient method does require obsidian dust, which requires a steam macerator...or xp buckets to "craft" obsidian dust? Huh. XP buckets...you can get from a seared tank and an xp drain, so yes, that is actually viable. Okay, learn something new every day. In any case avoid alloying Alumite in the smeltery if you want a get a higher yield from your precious resources.

    • @eagle653
      @eagle653 Год назад +3

      Also worth adding that for early obsidian it's really worthwhile to scavenge through villages and take obsidian tool parts from tinkers huts. Also, you can convert obsidian blocks to ingots 9:1 in an alloy smelter, so one block is basically enough for all your early-game alumite needs.

    • @hacatu
      @hacatu Год назад +1

      Maybe the steam squasher would be good for automatically combining fuel?
      I greatly prefer the better backpacks backpacks, they're bigger although they don't do any smart pickup or restock. They do take steel though, and can be upgraded later. The forestry backpacks can be upgraded, but it requires b*es.
      The steam grinder really is busted. I think that processing ten nugget ores like iron and copper is valid, but only if you steam grinder (crushed ore) -> steam oven (nuggets) -> steam grinder again (tiny dust) -> combine (dust) -> steam oven again (ingots). IE, combining nuggets directly in an alloy smelter is waaaaay too slow even if you automate it with hoppers, but even doubling the grinding and smelting steps will process ores pretty fast.
      Solar boilers seem hard to make pre-twilight forest because you can only get silver from small ores. They're fine, but I never bothered.
      The XP bucket method is kinda useful, for instance I used it to get some sulfur pre-nether, but it's too expensive to really be good.
      I have a couple other tips:
      You can find damascus steel (and other good materials like aluminium and stainless) in roguelike dungeon chests. You can't get a worthwile amount for gregtech progress this way, BUT you can get a bit to upgrade backpacks and tcon tools. For example, damascus steel tool rods give an astronomical 5x dura multiplier. Sadly I think they require an MV extruder, but it's still good to be on the lookout for these things, and damascus steel in particular can be found in loot bags, village chests, and thaumcraft obelisk chests as well.
      A little bit later when you have the LV lathe and LV arc furnace, you will want to make steel rods 1 -> 2 from ingots, but sadly the lathe doesn't quite do this. It recovers the second half of the ingot as steel dust, but this takes just as long to smelt into steel as iron in the BBF. However, I have discovered a much better way using several more steps: the steel dust can be melted in the tcon smeltery and then cast into railcraft steel chestplates. These can then be fed to an arc furnace to recover steel ingots. You could also use the tcon steel to make more fluid solidifier/extruder shapes.

PC doesn't really matter since you probably want to get a few vanilla playthroughs and smaller mod packs under your belt to learn the basics before hopping into huge ones. Later on though, a half decent graphics card or better and 8-16 gigs of RAM (higher isn't always better when running mod packs as java likes to fill up your memory and lag when you have more allocated, *but* you can host a server and connect your client to it to take some strain off of your client, giving both some decent RAM)

      To be honest if you want some more entertaining videos, the format of people these days in Minecraft is to just blast you with content in a sub 10 minute video, so it’s not that these videos are the most “entertaining” or “attention-grabbing” it’s that it’s content that is actually digestible without giving you a lobotomy out of sensory overload

    In exchange ill give you a little advice I discovered with this last big update: you should really invest in botania once you unlock the Twilight Forest.
    Mana steel GT tools have a ridiculous amount of durability! Comparable with vanadium steel, or even better I believe! I personally recommend the beegonia for mana production.
    With the village apiarys, hoppers and few item pipes you can let it produce and forget about it. Also you can forget about durability with the armour.

    I skipped the issue with pickaxe leveling down into steel by making a queen's gold pickaxe earlier in my playthrough lol. Had that thing leveled up to mine obsidian so I could go straight to alumite... but I didn't realize it was so much more efficient to make it in dust form 😭

    21:20 I'm glad they decided to change that about quests because spending whatever many hours to craft one machine just to notice that the quest didn't count because you didn't hold all the ingredients on your inventory at once seemed like a very weird design choice to me, specially later on once you have access to AE2.

    It's been a long time since this video was posted, but if you see the comment, I'd appreciate a reply. I've been wanting to play a tech-oriented mod pack lately, but the problem is that I get bored very quickly because it's either incredibly difficult or very complicated, and by complicated I mean I can't figure out what to do. Do you know of a mod pack that can guide me through missions perfectly? I'm thinking MC Eternal, people on Reddit are praising it a lot, but I don't know, I hate Create mode, more tekkit-style machines are nice, Tinker is very good too, if you have any suggestions I'd appreciate it if you'd share them. Also, I really like this series, this kind of incredibly difficult mod packs are not for me, but it's really nice to watch, and it's much better because you know what to do :D My English is not very good, sorry if there is a place in my comment that is not understood, thanks in advance, I subscribed.

    You should invest in a steam grinder soon. Also, burning diamond blocks in boilers isnt a horrible idea. It allows you to forget about refilling fuel for hours at a time

      I believe that 1 diamond block lasts for about 17 hours in a small coal boiler

    Im loving the series but im really missing the shaders from inferno. i think it would be really nice if you could add a shader at least in the early to mid-game, while it doesn't turn the game way too laggy
