Such an incredible depth of songwriting talent and creativity in the Beatles. Just think about it... ALL FOUR Beatles went on to have hugely successful solo albums with major number one hits.
The lost weekend is a reference to an old film of the same name, wherein Ray Milland’s character descends into alcoholic madness. Such a lovely song. And congratulations absolutely on your four years.
Walls and Bridges was his last album of original music until he released Double Fantasy 6 years later. John did release an album of covers, called Rock and Roll, in between Walls and Bridges and Double Fantasy. The period of recording silence corresponded to the time that he and Yoko got back together and John took on the role of house hubby. He learned how to make bread, but more importantly, he became a real Dad for the first time in his life. We were all heartbroken by John's death, but at least he got to experience a somewhat normal life before he passed. John wrote about this period in the song, Watching the Wheels, on the Double Fantasy album. I remember buying Walls and Bridges after its release and wondering when the next album would arrive. Rock and Roll, while fun to listen to, didn't showcase John's songwriting. We had to wait 6 years for Double Fantasy and then he was murdered. It was a traumatic period. None of us will ever get over it completely, but we learn to keep things in perspective too.
Silversun Pickups were an acquired taste but they were immensely popular in certain circles. I saw them live three times. The photo of John is morphed with Yoko. As others have said, he wasn't even with Yoko at the time of this song. It was his girlfriend at the time, Mae Pang singing the "John" part. Passe was originally what it sounds like. John was convinced into changing it to get radio play.
If you watch ALL from "Get Back" -- the writing of the lyrics -- you'll find that they are working on the SOUND of the words. They wrote for the EAR. "Walls and Bridges" is a great LP. It was made when he was in LA with May Pang -- away from Yoko.
That picture you see him at the start of playing the 9 dream song is him from 1974, not 16yrs old. I think this song is a message to Paul saying that John might be willing to write with him again. The reason I think this is that the song seems to refer back to God (Plastic Ono Band). In God, he says that he doesn't believe in Beatles and that the dream is over. In this song, he affirms that he still believes and he mentions that this is a dream of long ago (their shared dream?). He also refers to magic, one of the other things in God he claimed to no longer believe in [he was rejecting things that the other Beatles believed in: Paul - magic, George - mantra]. He mentions music touching his soul and two spirits dancing. This song came out in 1974, after they had met up in LA. After this song came out, Paul invited John to join him in New Orleans for the Venus and Mars sessions. Coincidence?
It's very weird to me too that to this day people just trash her over everything. Do they also hate John, I wonder because he loved her, and she wouldn't have been around if he didn't want her to be.
@@lauraallen55 I think maybe people need to project their own neuroses onto some one who is "other". (Unfortunately, often a woman... even worse, a woman with a name that is 'foreign'.) On a lighter note...when I was 14 years-old in 1969, my grandma worked in catering for the Laurentian Hotel which was next door to the Queen Elizabeth Hotel on (then) Dorchester Street in Montreal. As a Holocaust survivor who came to Canada after many years as a refugee in London, I can safely say that she had no idea why a Beatle (let alone an ex-Beatle) was a "thing". But she did pass on this info (clearly, other catering staff knew!) to my mum. Which is why me and many of my friends got to be part of the crowd gathered outside to witness John and Yoko's bed-in to Give Peace a Chance. How heartbreaking it is that hearing that song is still so relevant...and seemingly so far away.
@@lisannebaumholz5028 Yes, you're probably right about why people do that. What gets me, too, is that many proclaim to love John. If they truly do love John, they wouldn't trash someone he loved. In any case, that's a great story. What an experience and memory. Thanks for sharing! :)

Who knows. Interesting thought, though. John said it came from a dream he had, and never said anything else to my knowledge.
It's so weird that people like "hating" Yoko Ono. As if John Lennon was not an agent who created his own music...or lived his own life.
It's very weird to me too that to this day people just trash her over everything. Do they also hate John, I wonder because he loved her, and she wouldn't have been around if he didn't want her to be.
@@lauraallen55 I think maybe people need to project their own neuroses onto some one who is "other". (Unfortunately, often a woman... even worse, a woman with a name that is 'foreign'.)
On a lighter note...when I was 14 years-old in 1969, my grandma worked in catering for the Laurentian Hotel which was next door to the Queen Elizabeth Hotel on (then) Dorchester Street in Montreal.
Dude...your mic is sounding tinny and distorted..just thought you'd like to know!
Keep up the great work man!!
Legend has it the video footage of John is during one of m a n y l s d t r i p s . . . . . .
Good fight, Lee. 🥇
I always found it strange that John didn't like his voice and was always asking George Martin to change it. When everyone in the world thought he had a great voice.
It was so long ago...
was it in a dream? was it just a dream?
Hi Lee. While we're on the subject of Number 9, how about you react to Revolution 9 on the White Album? After all, we've all got to do it, once at least (or at most) 😉

No actors in the video. No, this was a John and Yoko project. Don't blame Yoko. John just wanted to show his life.
This is actually a Yoko project spliced together from different videos of them.
@@southernwanderer7912 It's ok, they made a lot of videos of themselves, it's nice to see.
looks like 1968? with the longer hair..
Yoko was always good at jumping on the bandwagon.
You’re clearly ignorant about Yoko, please keep blaming Yoko yall, trust.
The videos were from when he was alive.
Check out Rory Gallagher photos with a Beatle style hair cut, he and John could be twins! They look exactly alike No jokes 💕
This music video for whatever reason always creeped me out lol
bowakawa is made up; its not swahali or gaelic or anything. I imputed in several translators that will auto detect from all know languages and they find nothing. It is giberish
John wrote the song, Woman about May Pang, but Yoko made him change the lyrics. 😂
He did not write that song about May. He did write some other songs about her though.
You know, not really my cup of tea. It has nothing to do with being good or bad. It's just not my thing. Still, because it's you. I gave it a thumbs up.
