Thank you, my husband makes calaloo all the time and its amazing, hes supposed to be teaching me how to cook it tomorrow but ill surprise him by making it for him. Thanks for the video!!
Miguel , your a supa don! many videos neglect showing how to prepare food before cooking which is an essential part. I thank you for your due diligence in providing lots of clarity. you certainly have one of the best jamaican cooking channels bar none. keep up the GREAT WORK!!!
Good ole 🇺🇲 here in 🇯🇲 for 🙏🦃, looking for collard greens or cabbage no luck, no ham hocks no neck bones, who knew a bell pepper is called a sweet pepper... None of the less, thanks for video, because the colloloo will be served for 🙏🦃 dinner 🤷🏽♀️😂🤣🙏🙏🙏
My parents always prepared this for me, I never had to prepare it for myself until I got a bunch from a friend today. Very helpful!! Thanks soo much for this video. :-)
I needed this. I just picked some up from the store and I'm making it for the first time. Thanks :) I also don't use a sharp knife because I would probably cut myself. The knife is sharp enough.
Callaloo,....is this an herb that grows wild? It looks kind of similar to wild amaranth, yet there are other wild greens found here in Mexico. IRIE method of washing the green Irie Mon, thumbs up, thanks for sharing and greetings from Mexico. :)
It's funny how in some Caribbean countries this is called callaloo and in others it's called bhaji. In my country the West Indians call this bhaji, the Creoles and the rest of the country call it "klaroong" and it comes in a couple of varieties. Callaloo is a totally different plant in my country. In my country that's the plant with the big green heart shaped leaves ;) In my country we actually pick the leaves off of this vegetable that you're using instead of chopping it. Thanks for sharing ;)
@trinideena I guess everybody have they own thing. The trini version is dahseen bush and ochro (basic ingredients) is the best to me. I love meh Trini cooking... no disrespect to you Ras Miguel you're doing a great job at our version of bhagi.. ah hope yuh wash out all the sand.
@keeganmaraj I saw the difference in the spelling on the internet, for I am doing a breakfast cookbook called: JAMAICAN BREAKFASTS. I once worked for a packaging company (JPI). I was the Print Services Coordinator. We spelled it Callaloo in Jamaica. Why I do not know. If anyone know please give us knowledge.. I wonder how the English people spell it, because we follow the English way of doing things.
Too much salt kills nutrients. Washing like clothes is too excessive. I wash by soaking in a lot of water with a pinch of vinegar in the water a few times. Dry. Peal stalks, if necessary. Cut up in small pieces.
+Samantha Williams ... I'm not in Jamaica, so don't know this green. Is it more like spinach or collard greens or what (for those of us in US)? Thanks for an answer!
+Samantha Williams u don't know what u saying, i wouldn't argue, i would leave u in your ignorance,if u go on foodfaq on youtube and type how to prepare dasheen bush u would see what is callaloo bush also known as dasheen bush
