Credit to Rob Key. The Stokes appointment felt like “well who else is there” and the Baz appointment felt like a punt. Well - two inspired appointments that may just reshape test cricket full stop

Well said. I commented on one of the Ashes series aftermath videos last year that Rob Key, or even Nasser or Athers, should be offered at least a consultancy role with the England test team. Well England went one better than that and offered Rob Key the top job in English cricket. A brilliant move. Rob cuts through all the nonsense and guff and tells it like it is. Which is exactly what we needed after the debacle that was the Ashes series and the tour of the Caribbean.

As an Aussie I'm super impressed with what they've done. I listened to the last Ashes series on the radio in the work truck and it was painful hearing the England batters hanging on for as long as they could until they inevitably got out, particularly the openers. As a BBL fan I wondered why they didn't just throw Liam Livingstone and Alex Hales in to open the innings,if it didn't come off it would be the same result as the current openers,if it did the it would result in a lot of runs and throw the Aussie bowlers off course. Love the way Stokes plays the game and McCullum is modestly selling himself short here, the two of them are the perfect coach/captain combination, the positive England captain and the aggressive, stubborn Kiwi who thinks anything is possible.

As much as England defeated Pakistan with cricketing skills, perhaps more importantly they defeated Pakistan mentally with the way they played...especially on the 1st day of the 1st Test.
Even when Pakistan got into a potentially winning position, mentally they knew that England will outdo them. It all had a sense of inevitability.

Agree with this. Read the article (on bbc site I think) about how they’d won without any “magician” star bowlers that you have needed on the home pitches there in the past. Which talks to how they did it with - yes the undoubted talent in the team as a whole - but also with togetherness, belief and a huge will to win. I think mentally they bulldozed the home team and Aussies watching on will be worried about the next Ashes series, of that there is no doubt!

I said it at the start of the summer, baz and stokesy are the perfect combination and will propell this team to a completely new level. It's not rocket science but it takes balls to do it; take the pressure off the players and let them play without the fear that if they make a mistake they will get dropped and lose their place in the team. What has been remarkable is how they have managed to get the players on board so quickly without any real hiccups and its great to see! We've spent decades believing that we had a dearth of talent but what we're seeing now is the talent is there we just need the right people to harness it and long may it continue, anyone who loves test cricket must be absolutely enthralled by this and I can't wait until June, bring on the Aussies 😁👊

Your real test will be against Aussies in ashes series . Englishmen have been hammered everytime when they clash against Aussies bearing very few series. They have a very poor scoreline in ashes. Do not fly in air. Show your performance in ashes against Aussies formidable attack. You will be tested in ashes.

Englishmen to be proud of. No poncing around on one knee...Who TF is that meant to impress? When we focus on our task the English can still make a mark.

It’s meant to impress the media. The public aren’t interested in political posturing. Glad to see some self-respect back in the England test side.

Poor captaincy from Babar, the selection and the think tank.

It's good to hear David Gower back commentating. It's a shame we won't hear him during the Ashes. He's simply too old and white for Sky cricket.

Let’s not get excited. This is not the Pakistan of Imran, Javed, Wasim, Waqar, Inzi etc. This team is probably worse than the Eng team that lost various Ashes Series convincingly in the 90s-early 00’s
