I soaked my rice for 24 hours! Then steamed with this method exactly. I cooked it and kept adding water for 1 and a half hours and still not done! Why does this take so long? Why on gods earth would anyone cook rice this way when you can cook it in 20 minutes in a pot without pre soaking???
same here, I used so much gas trying to cook it I gave up and threw it in a pan of water. It was done in 5 minutes (I assume it was at least part cooked by steamer)
You probably cover rice with something that reject steam. The uploader is covering with a thin cloth that allow steam to heat rice easy. Or your steamer is leaking
The rice has a better consistency and is less sticky. There is also a faster way. Use jasmine rice, wash your rice, put it in boiling water for ~3minutes, pour off the water and put the rice in the steamer, steam it for ~10minutes and you are done.
@@thedude4795 seriously?? I usually cook mine in a pot (without any soaking) and it comes out perfect in 20 minutes. This method from the video takes way way longer! I just got a bamboo steamer to cook with. Are you saying they barely work? What kind of rice did you use? Did you use a muslin cloth?
thank you, this method is good for me because I have only electric wok now, and I want to eat rice. I successfully cooked sticky rice but never tried fragrant rice
But it will not have all the nutrients as it is pressure cooked and fast cooked. Slow cooking retains all nutrients. No one has the time for that in this modern world.
Uhoh, I rarely cook rice because I can't wait for 15 minutes until water boils and rice is done. Soak for 12h, get steaming cloth somewhere, cook for 40 minutes... the whole day is gone!
This is a misleading video on steaming rice. The method is called "mov vum cub" You soak the rice over night (or you could pour hot water on the rice and let it soak for 20 mins) then you pour the water and rinse the rice and place it on the steamer for 15 mins, then place the rice on a bowl add hot boiling water about 1 inch above the rice, let it soak for 10 mins, then place it back to the steamer for 8 or 10 minutes and it's done.

Perfect Rice.....Dehydrated Minute Rice, 1 part Rice, 1 part hot water, cover let sit for at least 30 minutes. add Chopped Roasted Chicken, Teriyaki sauce and Chopped Green Onions. Meal for .50 cents
This method is a waste of time you don’t need to soak the rice at all. Just rinse it and then steam it for 25 minutes you’re done
That's amazing, thank you for sharing this with me. I have never cooked rice in my Steamer.
And it only took 15 hours
Did the rice at least taste better?

I had this same problem. Thought i did something wrong
Rice cooker or boil rice over electric stove or traditional stove is way easier……over nite rice then u steam them.
This method takes way way longer than cooking rice in a pan. Is there a certain benefit to this method?
Bamboo adds flavor BTW id recommended a rice cooker just set n forget it

Perhaps if you don't have a stove-proof pot?
tried this, complete fail, rice was dry and hard
My Jasmine rice seems to take longer like over an hour.. is there a way to speed this up please?
Yes it can, depending on the amount of rice that you cooked.
So...why is it in a pan?
It's been 30 minutes in the steamer and it's still hard and raw, what's going on?
Edit: it's been an hour and I still have raw rice!
Make sure you soak your rice over night. That might help

hindi naman po.
So 12 hours to prep and 45 mins to cook? Who can be bothered....
Do you have to soak all types of rice? I make brown rice the most.
Yes to make it softer when you cook it.
It was so easy 😂
My instapot makes great rice....thats about all its good for...
If you want perfect rice, get an electric pressure cooker. You will have perfect white rice in 10 mins and brown rice in 15 minutes.

will this work with brown rice? Can I use my bamboo steamer liner as I don't have a cloth.
What is the brand of the rice do you use?
How long to steam sweet brown rice? Thank you so much!!!
You can steam it 30-45 minutes. It depends on the amount.
Does the bamboo basket touch the water line?
What water line? The soaking water? What's the bamboo in the pan for? I'm lost on that part?

You do not have to wait in front of the rice when it soaks
you are the typical lazy american. no time to cook but time to watch tv for hours and eat chips with it.
Where do you buy the cloth
Thank you for sharing. How much water did you use in the pan and can estimate how much water it left?
as long as the rice is not cook just add water constantly.

Why do you have to soak the rice?

Hello, inside your culture people don't use garlic or olive oil in the cooking rice process?
Hi Julio, we have rice dishes in the Philippines that use garlic and oil. Like, aroz valenciana and paella.
Can I use parchment paper instead?
Poke holes in the paper first.
can I use paper towels instead of of steaming cloth? just wondering
What type of fabric is it?
I’m assuming muslin which is what you also use for things like jam making
