This is my favorite video, one because you guys are funny, but two because every one of us that start in St. Jean experience this Sarria / newbie pilgrim / sometimes aggravation with the crowds and the changing vibe of the Camino. We actually had a joke last spring (April ‘23), if you made fun of the Sarria pilgrims too much, you had to go back to St. Jean and start over to “re-learn” humility. Hilarious and real. You just can’t help yourself when you are bloodied and tested and in day whatever and you find yourself surrounded by this little flock of pilgrims with price tags on their clothes.. Buen Camino! You guys are going to weep with joy in Santiago and it will be amazing !!
I remember coming into Sarria, and the " traffic" on the trail..! Definitely makes it feel like Santiago is so close:) Yes!! The smell of new pilgrims 😅
If you think it's busy now, you should see it in July/August it's like being in the middle of a line of ants, it takes a bit of getting used to, especially when you've come from a quieter camino, que será será. Buen camino chicos
Plants are “Grelos’ used in Galician soup called “Caldo Gallego”. Delicioso. Try it. The narrow raised structures are “horreos” used for grain storage. Raised on pillars to keep the varmints out 🤣. Thanks for sharing your adventure. Buen Camino 😊❤️🥾
The plant is "grelos" a kind of vegetables used in Galicia to cook a soup called "caldo gallego" and a typical dish called "lacon con grelos" ... booth delicious. On the oder hand ... great videos!! Thanks.
Love seeing your trek, thanks. Friends of ours have a pilgrim rest at Os Muinos; witch you are getting close to. I think they can stamp your Camino "passport" God bless and stay safe and healthy.
I have been following your Camino. I did it last year, and I miss it so much. That plant that you will see almost at every garden is collard green. They use for a traditional soup (Sopa de Galicia) and it is offered in every Menu de Peregrino. You must try it, it is amazing! It is a very healthy and hardy meal.... perfect for farmers and Peregrinos! And the reason you need two stamps from Sarria is becasue in order to get you Compostela (your certificate) you need to prove you walked the last 100km. So you need to stamp you Credential twice to prove you have been walking and not taking buses, taxis, etc. Buen Camimo!
Note that well over 50% of the folks on the Camino Frances just walk from Sarria. With that many starting from Sarria and many part of tour groups it gets busy. I am sure you will see some getting on and off buses. The new pilgrams with their new clothes and fresh laundry.
To be honest, we struggled a bit with the crowds beginning at Sarria. It was like Disney World, people in costumes, groups with matching t shirts, groups walking 5 abreast taking up the entire trail..... we had to focus and find our zen and to embody the spirit of El Camino. I feel ashamed of my original attitude, I became judgmental toward these pilgrims...this was wrong of me. Buen Camino to ALL pilgrims, wherever you are from and from wherever you began your Camino.
I see many ppl missinforming you about the plant of the 9:00 calling it grelos (Rapini or broccoli rabe). No is not, is a most humble wild plant called cardo borriquero (Cotton thistle).
Tomorrow just before Gonzar and in Ventas de Naron are great places for a 'con leche.' Also, at the far end of Ligonde is a tiny alburgue run by Christians. On the wal is plaque which says 'Yo soy el camino,' 'I am the way.' Have a great last few days. Be blessed.
Some people wanting to do El Camino, don't have the luxury to start 500 kms away, but the only opportunity they have is doing it from Sarria. Making fun of those people ain't cool. American arrogance is infinite
Be honest!! Was that annoying? You are the real deal. You are the original St. Jean Crew! And, yet, those on a glorified sponsored school walk get the same certificate you do. They shower because they can. You shower because you have to! Big! Big! Difference!

We share all of the thoughts you shared, including feeling ashamed of these feelings

Hi. I’d like to know the “tips & tricks” the gentleman told you about. 😊
He was foodie of sorts and fluent in Spanish.

They weren't making fun.
Tell me where I made fun of them

I love the shower motto. That’s perfect
Behold! The world's most useless fact......ever!!! 'Starbursts ' used to be called ' Opal Fruits ' in Britain. ( I told you it was useless!! ).
