I'm 55 now and still get goosebumps when I hear The Grass Roots. My teen years were spent spinning the old 45's on my little record player! Rob was gorgeous!
And now, Rob has joined Christian in heaven. So very sad. Rob Grill had that special voice...one of a kind. Such a sweet man he was. Love you Rob...I'll miss you forever.
I had the pleasure of meeting Rob when I backed him up we played first clear back in 1981 in ft Wayne ,such a nice man talked to him for hours after they were done
What incredible bands we had in the 60's. We were so lucky to be entertained bythe best... Love the story how Rob got the job for the Grassroots. How lucky we were back then. Thanks for the memories !!!
Del died some time ago from a self inflected gunshot . Rob died in July from a fall. It really doesn't matter how they passed away as much as the fact that two great artists are no longer in this world. They both left us with great music to remember them by. Godspeed Rob.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Grass Roots !!❤️ My favorite music in the world ever since the 60's! There's no group out there that I love more!. Love ya Rob, your voice was phenominal and I love all your songs so much!❤️🔥❤️
i had such a crush on Rob Grill back in '69. Sigh. I was the ONLY one in my WHOLE neighborhood that listened to the Grassroots and STILL kept their albums. Still have them. Where was everybody when i listened to them?????
To my disdain, I never saw Del Shannon perform live. i did see the Grass Roots several times in Hollywood at a great place called The Trip. Rob and them will always be one of my favorites along with the great Del. The Trip somehow allowed me and my friends in when we were 17. Saw Marvin Gaye, the Birds, Martha and the Vandellas, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Donovan, and many others. It was a great place on Sunset Blvd. near the Playboy club!
Yeah...why can't a lot of guys look like Rob or be cool like Del Shannon ? It's sad because I'm from that time period when the Grassroots were going strong strong. Then a couple of years later in High School when I'd watch the Midnight Special. That's where I discovered Del Shannon dressed as a Cowboy wearing a Stetson singing Runaway. Del certainly looked like an American Cowboy and now they're no longer with us. But their music lives on and youngsters have asked me, tell us about the 60's !!!
That's fantastic 2 Rock legends Del Shannon & Rob Grill of the Guess Who. It's sad that they're no longer with us. But they left us with great music. The 60's were really great !!!
Wow... she was absolutely stunning gorgeous in this interview. What a beautiful woman, I'm surprised that either of them could keep their mind on the music while looking at her. lol Great interview, too. Del was a little before my time but I loved his music as well the Grass Roots, one of the more successfull groups to use horns in a lot of their rock songs.
del was a depressive. he was on prozac..he had been ripped by the music industry..i met del in england..he was a great guy..i dont think he ever adjusted to being not so famous..he left us his music......
Poor Del, he looks like an old hound dog next to Grill. Talk about compare and contrast. I was half asleep, watching the show (which I never did) for some reason when the guys were on during a sort of 'singers from the past week' they were having on GMA. I was always a big Del fan (native of Michigan) and really dug the Grass Roots, although not because Grill was cute, like the girls did. Both guys met a tragic, and early, end to their life. Too bad. But, they left behind some great music, to be remembered for the ages. BTW, the classic Huell Howser interview with Grill, back in the 90s, is lost to the ages. Huell talked with him during one of the GRs come back hitches and played up Grill's California roots.
Grass Roots, one of the better US home grown bands.. "Creed" from the TV show "the Office" was one of the earliest band members; performed with them on Hollywood Palace Show with Jimmy Durante introducing them; they sang "Live For Today," must have been '67 or '68..
Around 2006 Rob grill with the Grassroots performed at a furniture store here in Farmers Branch Texas. He arrived in a cab. There was a small stage in the middle of the store. However I wasn't smart enough to ask him for an autograph, damn
I have found more info on Rob's first wife. Her name was Ariadna Ruskin; she had been married before for 8 years, divorced that guy in Feb 1970. Christian Leigh Grill was born Oct.6, 1970 and her and Rob were married Dec.17,1970, then divorced May 1975.
To me Del, looked rather thin in this interview, In his concert in 1982, he looked really great. He just looks a little old in this interview. Maybe it's the lighting or something. I actually think he looked better in around 1985 0r 86. Something about his eyes looks old here. I always thought he was so handsome. In his 1986 appearance on Letterman he looked really good.
You people need to get the facts straight before commenting about how somebody died. Del Shannon committed suicide. Rob Grill died from a head injury after suffering a stroke.
The irony is that the Grass Roots recorded the hit "The Runaway" in 1973, nothing to do with Del Shannon's "Runaway." Funny they did not mention that fact.
Suffering from depression, Shannon committed suicide on February 8, 1990, with a .22 caliber rifle. If this video was made in 1986, he died 4 years later. -- Really sad.
The Grass Roots were and always will be top draw. In my first band "The Psycedelic Soul" we played all of their stuff. It was a sue lock, if you covered their stuff you were a hit.
RIP Del and Rob. Used to sing "Runaway" in the hallways of grade school in '61. Used to have contests of who could transition from standard verse tone to falsetto without cracking. lol. And, of course, Rob was one-of-a-kind. Whenever The Grass Roots came to town, the bars were devoid of ladies.
Major Depression was the diagnosis and the symptom - he was wrongly given prescription drugs that made him worse and unable to work on his problems of his life in general ---rather than getting into therapy to work on his problems with a real therapist and not a psychiatrist. There was a lot of help avialable to him in LA he just did not get it.
was just reading some stuff about Rob,..it said he married his 2nd wife in 86, and that his son,..Christian,...from his first marriage,...died the year before Rob,..of cancer. So if he was 12 at the time of this interview,..in 83,..and died in 2010,..he would have been only 39 :(
Comes across like he actually came up with the music and played it those dudes did nothing but sing The Wrecking Crew played all the tracks that's why when you see live recordings they never show their hands playing cuz they could never duplicate that music they're not that good of musicians they are luckier than Lotto
Del looks like Cave Man Lawyer. But he's a good artist up until he killed himself. BTW Love the Grass Roots but on those recordings it was the Wrecking Crew doing all the heavy lifting.
I'm 74 years-old now, and the loved The Grass Roots music for a long, long, time. Their music is timeless.
I'm 55 now and still get goosebumps when I hear The Grass Roots. My teen years were spent spinning the old 45's on my little record player! Rob was gorgeous!
Yes, same here! Grass Roots is my ultimate favorite band hands down!👍👍
I think he is(was) the best looking man in the world!!!
Grew up on both their music & still love it. R.I.P. Del & Rob. You are missed
And now, Rob has joined Christian in heaven. So very sad. Rob Grill had that special voice...one of a kind. Such a sweet man he was. Love you Rob...I'll miss you forever.
Rob is so beautiful and what a smile! RIP Rob
O
@@jennystiltner8025 I met Rob early 80's in Lincoln Ne and got his autograph, I was touched by what a kind decent person he was
The same can be said about you ❤️
He was reall mod look miss it

Two inherently GREAT musical GENIUS's!!!
Del died some time ago from a self inflected gunshot . Rob died in July from a fall. It really doesn't matter how they passed away as much as the fact that two great artists are no longer in this world. They both left us with great music to remember them by. Godspeed Rob.
I knew Rob and he was a genuinely sweet man. He was funny and liked to kid around. But the music is amazing❤
RIP both of these guys.
Rob Grill is one of the best-looking men on the planet. Woof!
Wow! Rob Grill was a real cutie. I've never seen him speak in a conversational way before. Now I have a crush ❤
LOVE LOVE LOVE Grass Roots !!❤️ My favorite music in the world ever since the 60's! There's no group out there that I love more!. Love ya Rob, your voice was phenominal and I love all your songs so much!❤️🔥❤️

evimlck my 2nd fave group after the beatles but almost a tie.. still have all their albums and a few 45s.
Girl, I was with you......every album....in love with Rob!
What a terrific interview. This interview didn't state what year it was, but those songs will live on forever, fantastic!
1982
Both gone way to soon! Classic artists! They are missed!
I loved BOB GRILL ,Gone to SOON R.I.P.
Love Love "The Grass Roots", and yes Rob is so nice looking. Thanks for this trip down memory lane...
Rob Grill was the man! RIP sweet angel!❤

rob looks so happy when he talks about his son-- dam he was so beautiful. I had major crush on him in 1969
I still do!
Nice to see you Del in this new interview,Love you always, caro
Thanks for this vid.
Look how young ROB GRILL WAS WOW. I SAW HIM IN 1992 HE SNUCK UP ON ME. WHAT MEMORY. HE WAS YOUNG THEN. I MISS BOTH OF THEM.
Why oh why can't more men look like Rob Grill? Damn he was soooo hot!
Yeah...why can't a lot of guys look like Rob or be cool like Del Shannon ? It's sad because I'm from that time period when the Grassroots were going strong strong. Loved Robb Grill and the Grass Roots ❤
I just wish I could've seen Rob Grill in person
Me too!
Me too!💔
Rest in Peace Rob and Del. Both gone
del was a depressive. he was on prozac..he had been ripped by the music industry..i met del in england..he was a great guy..i dont think he ever adjusted to being not so famous..he left us his music......
Rob is so handsome
Rob is just so cute and sexy. And so sweet! And he STILL is!
I really miss both thses guys, especially Rob.
Poor Del, he looks like an old hound dog next to Grill. Talk about compare and contrast.

What year is this? It's a awesome interview. I love both of these talented guys RIP you are loved

Did the fans sit on the sofas to watch Rob? 😊
What a great reunion, those guy are awesome! No like the musician of today!
Rob 👌❤️
Del the best ever. Ken (ENGLAND.)
Why can I not find any photos of her or Rob and her together?
RIP Del Shannon (suicide) and RIP Rob Grill...
1982 is a pretty good guess, since Rob joined the Grass Roots by about 1968 to round up the last and most famous Grass Roots line-up....
Rob Grill was it !
If "Let's Live 4 Today" was 15 yrs old, this must be circa 1982. About 4-ish years before Shannon died.
Richard Baxter --- Del Shannon Died in 1990.
You people need to get the facts straight before commenting about how somebody died. Del Shannon committed suicide. Rob Grill died from a head injury after suffering a stroke.
The irony is that the Grass Roots recorded the hit "The Runaway" in 1973, nothing to do with Del Shannon's "Runaway." Funny they did not mention that fact.
fumetti Actually, The Grass Roots song is "The Runway," as in airplane runway.
Suffering from depression, Shannon committed suicide on February 8, 1990, with a .22 caliber rifle. If this video was made in 1986, he died 4 years later. -- Really sad.
I miss Rob Grill.
The organ player was gorgeous
Do not leave this world without Jesus holding your hand ...
His son was born in Oct. 1970, so I'm guessing late 1969 or 1970 before the baby came. There's not very much info out there about his personal life.
Sadly Del committed suicide in 1990 at his home in Santa Clara and Rob has also crossed over a few years ago
@GeorgeCarlinIsInHell Rob Grill died from complications from a fall, he had a stroke a while back, not AIDs related at all
RIP Rob ....:(
I lived the best of times
Where can I get videos of The Grass Roots on American Bandstand ?????
So this is 1982 since his son Christian was born in 1970 and he says he is twelve here.
RIP ROB
The Grass Roots were and always will be top draw. In my first band "The Psycedelic Soul" we played all of their stuff. It was a sue lock, if you covered their stuff you were a hit.
Del is so handsome, so down to earth!! R I P - so sad he killed himself, I just couldn’t believe it 😢😢😢😢😢😢
@pam1a
Del was taking Prozac. Other people have a similar reaction from that drug.
@pam1a i think it was 81 or 82 if Grill said lets live for today came out 15 years from this interview. live for today was '66 '67
Two guys who died tragically and too soon.
They should have gone solo with each. The dual interview was awkward.
This is from 1982!
Nice!
Is that Joan Lunden ... she was absolutely gorgeous
I was a Grass Roots fan, but also a Del Shannon fan. Does anyone know why he committed suicide?
Severe depression.
At 2:57, did they cut the interview when Rob spoke?
I noticed that too....just when it was getting interesting.
I would have loved a Grass Roots reunion with the 60's lineup.
Does anyone know what year Rob was first married??????
Damn !! Who was the lady ?? Looks familiar. Awesome group
The interviewer is Joan Lunden. She was soooooo hot back then.
Hey anyone know the name of the Del song that this piece opens with?
ShaneKarma376 Stranger in town

Boy is she beautiful????
Joan Lunden
@BrooksFrankandBoog70 you must have just graduated grade 2..get ready grade 3 may be a bit challenging for you.
what year was this?
Sometime in the 80s if I was to guess.
Del seems depressed in this interview
Seeing what eventually happened to him it would make sense.
@oOMadhuriOo yes and I wasnt even born when this was taped. LoL
Del looks like Cave Man Lawyer. But he's a good artist up until he killed himself. BTW Love the Grass Roots but on those recordings it was the Wrecking Crew doing all the heavy lifting.
Oh Jesus, woman, stop saying "top of the charts!" every single time! "Sea Of Love" didn't even go Top 30!
1982
