    One of the most beautiful and powerful love stories ever to be on film. People still make jokes about this but this was so beautiful done. I watched this with my wife, as a straight man my buddies made jokes about me watching it when I told them. I also have a son who is gay so to me this is only about two people been in love yet society and their narrow mindedness forbid it because it’s two men. I broke my heart at this movie and understood my son more and how hard it must be, especially back then when it wasn’t even talked about. Sadly there’s still a huge part of society that haven’t budged with their thinking. Hard to believe it’s still illegal in some countries. I’ll never understand it.

      21 years old here and I agree with your stance on society. I was pretty homophobic growing up but the thing about me is that i’m a romantic, love is love and I believe tbat you should be able to love who you want. I want to dedicate the rest of my life to making this world a better place for people of all backgrounds, I want to be part of the change our society has to go through in order to make gay/lesbian folk feel accepted.

    Damn, this is the scene that should have won Gyllenhaal a Best Supporting Actor Oscar! When he said, "So what we got now is Brokeback Mountain!" I felt that in my soul. Incredible acting and played pitch perfectly against the wound too tight character of Ennis.

    Ang Lee should have won in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon for Best Director.. winning for this movie was just a consolation..😢😢

    • @richardherdman2121
      @richardherdman2121 6 месяцев назад

      Wrong on both counts. He should NOT have won, factually speaking, because Soderbergh got more votes for Traffic. If you win when you get less votes, that means you cheated (except with the US's ridiculous electoral college system, but that's a whole other topic).
      Second, saying that winning for Brokeback was somehow a "consolation" is disrespectful, plus it makes no sense. The Director's Branch loved that film. We'll never know for sure, but I doubt any other film came close to the number of votes Lee got. (Would you have given it to Crash instead? _Maybe_ Spielberg for Munich, but even that's hard to argue against the magnificent achievement of Brokeback.)

    • @richardherdman2121
      @richardherdman2121 6 месяцев назад

      I also hope you don't think his win for Life of Pi was also a consolation. Because imo, he was far and away the best choice that year too.

    • @lawrencelou3545
      @lawrencelou3545 6 месяцев назад

      @@richardherdman2121 wouldn't be surprised if you're woke.. Crouching Tiger .. was far more artistic and ground breaking and technically superior than a movie about cowboy homosexuality . And I'm not homophobic .. just use my eyes more.. how difficult to choreograph the fight scenes?? As oppose to drama??

    • @richardherdman2121
      @richardherdman2121 6 месяцев назад

      @@lawrencelou3545 ??? Wow, that's a seriously incongruous response. 1) The 2 films weren't competing against each other, so why are you talking like they were? 2) Lee won every major directing award that year for Brokeback, including the DGA, which like AMPAS, *is voted on by professional directors* (who DID give him the award for CTHD ALSO.)
      Thirdly - and most importantly - you're wrong that CTHD was "far more artistic" and "technically superior" - and I'm being quite objective here (but again, you obviously know they weren't competing against each other, so why are you pitting them against each other like that? I don't get your point.) Read a little about the work that went into setting up most of the shots in Brokeback. The mapping, CGI, closeups/long shots....and specifically how each scene was intentionally shot in a certain way with respect to Lee's goal in evoking a certain emotional feel for each scene (particularly the many outdoor scenes).
      Do yourself a favor and watch the director's comments/special features that come with most DVDs/bl-rays. I'm sure you can find some uploads here on YT. There is so much going on - including lots of digital effects - that the average viewer isn't even aware of. It's really pretty amazing.

    • @richardherdman2121
      @richardherdman2121 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@lawrencelou3545 As far as your knee-jerk reaction to call me "woke" because I disagree with you, why do that? It makes you sound like a right-wing extremist who can't take someone disagreeing with you without calling them names. This post was about a film - an artistic work - not politics. Why go there?
      Simply because the 2 lead characters were gay doesn't mean the discussion has to turn into a political one about gay rights. That's a topic for a completely different board. For example, take the Godfather films - or most of the lead characters in Scorsese's films. They're not people whose personal actions I would usually agree with. But that doesn't make me think any less of Scorsese's directorial expertise and remarkable artistic ability.
