- Ugears Aero Clock. Wall clock with pendulum Assembly Video | English Subtitles
In this video we will show you how to assemble the Aero Clock. Wall clock with pendulum mechanical DIY model. Follow our step-by-step video instructions with subtitles.
Aero Clock is a fully-functioning DIY wall clock with pendulum. The theme of the Aero Clock is early aeronautics. The casing and intriguing wooden clock mechanism represent an air base located among the clouds, where zephyrs blow and filtered rays of sunlight dapple the machinery, while you, in the role of aeronaut, launch a new voyage of exploration on the hour. In the role of "cuckoo” the Ugears Aero Clock features a model hot air balloon.
As you build the Aero Clock, you will learn the basic principles behind clockworks, how the steadying influence of a swinging pendulum operates through a rocking anchor, locking and unlocking the gears on an escapement one second at a time, thereby regulating the (slow) descent of a weight as it drives both power gears and timekeeping gears.

Just unwrapped this for Christmas, and I can't wait to put this together! Slava Ukraini!
Glory to heroes! We hope you will enjoy the assembly! With any questions feel free to contact us at customerservice@ugearsmodels.com
I got this for Christmas as well. 4 hours into the build thus far, and loving every minute. Really impressed.
One of the most beautiful models I have ever built!
Excellent fit, excellent manual!
Stay strong over there in Kyiv!
Hi, thank you for your feedback and your support! We hope Ukraine wins the war soon, and we can return to peaceful lives!
This video has been of great help a few times, especially on page 36 and 37 where I did not understand what to do :)
Love the model so far, has so far provided two weeks of relaxing (mostly) building - hopefully I can get it to work a few hours at the time. But it will make a great piece to have on the wall anyway ;)
Hi, thank you for your feedback! Feel free to contact us at customerservice@ugearsmodels.com if you need help with the model, this or any in the future. We will be happy to help!
I've built about 35 of UGEARS WOODEN MODELS, instead of using wax I use #2 pencil the graphite is more slippery also sanding is necessary necessary. By rubbing the pencil on the contact surfaces,it burnishes, makes a slick surface.
Hi, thank you for sharing your experience!
Thanks for the info. 😉👍
Excellent model to build . after three years, I found it useful to replace the two wooden bearings (part52) on the first gear assembly (page23) with small ball bearings (10mm diameter outside, 5mm diameter inside by 4mm thick - e.g. ML5010ZZ) . This reduces the largest source of friction and make the clock far more reliable.
Thanks Ugears, 1:51:00 - 1:52:00 helped me to figure out the proper path for the strings, the printed instructions are not very clear. This is my 4th Ugears model and the most impressive by far.

I read of somebody recommending PTFE spray instead of wax, what do you think?
This is my second model and i'm loving it, the one thing that is worrying me is on page 15, where you wrap the waxed cord around the frame, the guy in the video finishes it off by attaching the H2 Helper, but the position he has it in is different to my instructions, hope it doesn't matter but i'm going to go with the instructions, fingers crossed.
Hi! According to page #15, stage 1, you should wind the waxed cord 360 degrees around the model's body three times.
Then, it will not interfere during the assembly.
According to page #36, the cord must be unwound and hung down.
On page #37, a short part of the cord should be pulled through the hole and a made knot.
If the cord is a few inches shorter, the operation of the watch will not be affected.
Just made mine everything is working except the balloon function which is not quite right .I noticed you have an elastic band around the balloon reel my instruction book never included that and wondered if it was a new updated kit?
Same here
My Aero Clock kit has different parts and no rubber band as you have here on page 46 or 2:13 on the video above. Does that mean I have an earlier version? If so, will my clock still work and what can I do to improve it?
Hi Simon Cavill! We’ve made minor changes to the use of rubber bands, and it’s no longer necessary to use them on pages #34 and 46. You can find the latest version of the instructions on our website at ugearsmodels.com/instructions/Aero-clock-ugears-instruction.pdf
I instantly screwed up the waxed cord, so now I’m stuck 😢

Assembled from the book and not the video as there are a couple of differences. Use of rubber band video indicated on page 48 (I had V2 of the manual so it indicated I could ignore this and the rubber band instructions were missing from my version of the manual). Replacement of wooden pick with metal rod in page 60/61 as indicated in the video which is completely missing in the manual and for which there is no rod in the kit. However I could never get the ballon to work as there is too much friction in the wheel that is used to rewind the mechanism and seems to be a flaw in the design. I also could not get the clock to run (without balloon) for more than 20 minutes or at the required rate (It would run at a faster than normal rate if I adjusted the balances but with the weights set to run at the correct speed it would stop ). I tried increasing the weight to give it more torque but that failed. Basically the clock was a bust and I took it apart and disposed of it which was a shame. It was fun to build but ultimately a complete waste of money and effort.

At 35.15, with the string of a=b, it’s too short to wind around. I’m baffled!
I love mine. Sadly enough it decided to destroy itself so i need to take it apart to replace the broken parts. Anyway where i can order new parts?
Hi!
Please fill out the form for spare and replacement parts on our website - ugearsmodels.com/request-for-additional-parts.html.
We will send the parts at our expense.
I didn't cut the waxed cord because I couldn't measure it, so I don't know if it was already the right size from the start?? I have almost finished assembling the clock, I am at the stage of hanging it on the wall. So I don't know if I should cut it or if it will work??
Hi, thank you for your question. We have passed it to our Customer Service team, and will be back with the answer soon.
The set includes a waxed cord with a length of about 3800 mm. It will not affect the mechanism's operation if it is a little longer, about 100-150 mm. Assemble the model entirely and start it. If the cord is too long and will fall to the floor, you can shorten it a little.
Bro, go get your Universe licensed!
In the box either I didn't received the metal axle required for d2 and d3, or they got lost, is any workaround possible??

The nylon part with the Aero clock isn't easy to tie with so little amount to use. Already messed up and will need to go buy some better nylon.
Just bought this clock at goodwill brand new sealed for $13.99
On page 45 when assembling the hook (steps 12-18), how long should the rope be? I'm asking because my rope is really long
Hi, thank you for your question. We have passed it to our Customer Service team, and will be back with the answer soon.
The length of the waxed cord from the kit should be 3800mm (149,6 inches).
It happens that the cord can be longer. Cut it to the needed length.
When you insert it into the holes of part #21 (stage 3, steps 1-4), you'll get two equal-length cords (stage 3, step 5).
One part of the cord should be turned four times 360 degrees (counterclockwise), and the second should be turned once 360 degrees (clockwise).
Fixate two parts of the cord with part #H2 on the opposite side from part #21 (page #8, stage 6).
From one side, the cord should be longer and the other short. After winding, the cord should not be the same length on both sides.
@@ugearsmodelsuahow thick it must be? I need to buy one again and I keep getting the wrong thickness
This is a gorgeous model, and I love having it on my wall, but it is only a model. I have spent more time then I care to admit trying to get it to run and it just won't. I get 30 seconds at best, usually no more than 4 seconds. I have tried every suggestion in the manual. Every suggestion in the tips and tricks video. Everything in the customer support email. It just won't run. It makes me sad because it's such a gorgeous model.

I had similar problems: too much friction on the pendulum. Sanding didn’t help
Try to remove pt 170 and pry the two ends a bit apart using a piece of the counterweight, that worked fine for me.
Try the Sky Watcher clock. It is easier. lol
I had one of these, I never got it to work 😭. I'll retry someday hopefully.
Hi! Please, send several photos of the mechanisms from different angles to our Support Team at customerservice@ugearsmodels.com. This will help them determine the stage of the model assembly and provide a complete answer for the troubleshooting.
Дуже круто 🔥 так вони поацюють як годинник чи ні? Якщо так, тоді на скільки годин розрахований ?
Добрий день! Якщо модель зібрана правильно, вона може працювати до 30 годин.
Wait why does mine look different on this page 2:08:05 there aren’t any rubber band stuff here

The string got absolutely on the other side. Why? I followed every step on the book.

On p.56, step2 : on the video, there is a replacement of the wooden stick by a metal axe, but in the notice we have, there is no replacement and the metal axe is but above. We follow the notice, but maybe we have to do like in the video?
We ask, because we tried to figured out what causes the stop of the clock, and we wonder if it is not a possible cause...
Hi @amypapote5100 , thank you for your question. We have passed it to our Customer Service team, and will be back with the answer soon.
Hi! Please recheck the correctness of the assembly of the fishing line, as shown on page #46 (stage 2). You should wind it three times - page #61, stage 6.
The toothpick may be very short or broken and may not be in the hole of part #141 (page #62, step 9). Therefore, part #I becomes oblique and blocks the clock.
Also, sand down and wax part #63.
@@ugearsmodelsua thak you for your answer. With a lot of observations we finally found what stopped the clock: we waxed the axe of the pendulum and now it works very fine without modified the balloon mechanism.
Great model, well made and so nice to assemble. But does it work? No. I’ve tried every recommended trick but the pendulum just will not swing. Plummeting stars, it’s an ornament for now until I get fed up and bin it.
Hi @SnarlingDog,

I got it! After trying several things, I’ve finally got it working. I smoothed off the edges of the pendulum gears, I used a graphite pencil to polish the surfaces. But the biggest thing which made the difference was swapping the pendulum weights around so the bigger one is on the bottom. It runs like a clock now!
I just have to get the balloon working and sort out the cable car which just tangles up.
