    What do you guys think about this new lens from Sigma? Drop em below 👇

  • @frankfeng2701
    @frankfeng2701 2 месяца назад +4

    Sigma 18-35 is popular because it is EF mount to be adaptable to different systems, larger zoom range and unique in apsc lineup. This 28=45 misses a lot of target audience by creating a short, heavy zoom. Take 24-35 f/2, for example, whose price sits around $400 because no one uses it.

      @WaywardNorth  2 месяца назад

      It’s definitely a unique lens for sure and won’t be a lot of people’s preference or first choice. I enjoyed using it at my latest event but I totally see the distaste and shortcomings a lot of filmmakers have with it. At the end of the day it’s another tool for filmmakers to decide if it’s best suited for them.

      @dongwarrenmusic Месяц назад

      @@frankfeng2701 why they didn't just add a little more, like 25-50. or 20-40. And it will become all rounder lens, from studio to outside shoot. I know what they think, marketing. The sales for these maybe use to an another upgraded lens like this. So, my advice is just wait.

    Sigma are bringing some great fast zooms to the table! - Zooms that give you the look of a prime are great for weddings. Having a zoom range really gives you more flexibility in a changing environment. I've got the 35-150mm f2-2.8 lens and its brilliant for the formalities. - its too heavy and big for me to use all day unfortunately but great on tripods for speeches and ceremony

      Totally! I love my 35-150 and my second shooter always uses this lens while I stick to a 50 prime or in this video the 28-45 which worked wonderfully. Killer combo!

    Cool lens. Off-topic: I know you're exploring ditching slo-mo in some scenarios. But the problem remains--shooting 60p or faster with appropriate shutter looks bad on a 24p timeline, playing at real-time speed. I wish we had solutions for that. Looks jittery, and possibly like a settings/operator mistake.

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  2 месяца назад

      Thanks for the feedback. Id say a simple solution is Gimbal + ND Filter if you still wanted to film in 60. I didn't have the right threads for this wedding since I was testing a new lens so my ND filter wasn't available. I worked with what I had and did what I was comfortable with. I still think it turned out awesome and I know the couple will love the end product and for me that's all that matters.

    My sigma 24-70 2.8 looks so shaky on my R6 when I use it handheld compared to my RP! I’m not sure why so I haven’t used it in a couple months 😅 definitely prefer to use a zoom lens for weddings though, especially during portraits

      Dude thats really tough but I would say it really depends on if you feel .4 makes that much of a difference. I mean love me some primes but the versatility with this lens at 1.8 and still achieving beautiful depth, makes me vote Sigma 28-45 here. Also dude haha the fog was a gift. It was sunny, then it rained, then the fog said, "hello lucky filmmaker, welcome to beauty and mystique."

    Primes are always Better Using a prime lens forces photographers to move around and think more about composition and framing, which can lead to more creative and thoughtfully composed shots.

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  2 месяца назад +1

      Totally primes are great for that - I even mention in this video treating this lens like a prime for that exact reason will serve you even better. Every lens has its purpose and design to fit a specific look and need. One gives you a sharper image, a blurrier background, the other gives you versatility and depth. Each has their place 💪

    • @gioshravan
      @gioshravan 2 месяца назад

      @@WaywardNorth Absolutely, you make a valid point about each lens having its own purpose and advantages. However, I still firmly believe that prime lenses hold a special edge, especially when it comes to honing photographic skills and achieving superior image quality.
      Prime lenses generally offer sharper images and wider apertures compared to zoom lenses, allowing for stunning bokeh and low-light performance. This sharpness and clarity are often unmatched, providing a level of detail and depth that zoom lenses struggle to replicate.
      Moreover, the fixed focal length of primes forces photographers to be more deliberate with their composition. This restriction can foster creativity and a deeper understanding of framing and perspective. It pushes us to move around and explore different angles, leading to more thoughtfully composed shots.
      While the Sigma 28-45mm f/1.8 is undoubtedly versatile and high-quality, I find that the discipline and precision required by prime lenses make them invaluable tools for any serious photographer. They teach you to work within constraints and truly master the art of photography, rather than relying on the convenience of a zoom.
      In my experience, the unique characteristics and superior performance of prime lenses often outweigh the benefits of versatility. They might require a bit more effort and thought, but the results are undeniably worth it. & I am your fan love your videos

    Id rather just use a fast 35mm f1.4 prime lens. 28mm - 45mm just isn't enough and Id be swapping lenses anyway. 35mm prime and 70-200 is probably the way to go.

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  2 месяца назад

      That’s a good combo! I like to experiment every so often. It all depends on your style, is 1.8 low enough, is 28-45 versatile enough, most people want 24 to atleast 50, some want wider and longer, so yeah using lenses that meet those requirements for you and checks off your boxes is important snd will be different for each filmmaker

  • @coffeewithdamian

    isn't 18-35mm 1.8 better value, it can be used on full frame and got some nice range, still 1.8?

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  2 месяца назад +1

      The 18-35 is an APS-C lens and you “can” use it on a full frame frame camera but will experience vignetting at 18mm unless your camera has an APS-C mode you can switch it to. So just depends on the camera at that point but the 28-45 is the full frame equivalent give or take a few mm

    • @benjamin.kelley
      @benjamin.kelley 2 месяца назад

      An 18-35mm also doesn't bode well with most wedding filmmakers, as it's just way too wide and doesn't make people look good.
