also "China used water cannons" sounds harmless until you remember that the word "cannon" is there for a reason and we're talking about a violent assault with high-pressure water hoses, half a step short of an open military attack.

comparing to what Isreal has been doing in the last 6 months, the water cannon is indeed harmless
I was both in awe and absolutely annoyed about the necessity of this when I heard about the Philippines ‘Angels of the Sea’ communication unit.
Seriously, how much ego-care and motherly love does the PLA navy need so they realise that harassing a fishing boat with a crew of six is
not a security measure,

The water cannon attacks are a lot worse than presented. The attacks have also led to a Philippine Navy sailor being injured.
The attacks have led to significant destruction of the resupply ship's structures, rendering the vessel no longer seaworthy until repairs have been made.
Other actions performed by the PRC on the disputed territories included hovering a helicopter 20 meters above Filipino academic researchers performing studies on a small island with dead corals. Downwash from the helicopter sent dead corals all over the Filipino researchers, significantly wounding them. These dead corals are also connected with the PRC's aggressive land reclamation actions on the islands.
If the US helps the Philippines like they are helping Ukraine for the past 6 months … They better get as many ships of their own as they can..

Unlike Ukraine, the Philippines has a Mutual Defense Treaty with the US which basically is the NATO Article 5 for America's major non-NATO ally like Japan, Taiwan, Australia and even Thailand...

Upside is this is great for the US Philippines alliance. We got your back brothers. We need to get you all some fair rates on modern weapons, especially missile ships, drone boats, and cheap drone weapons systems.
For context, the ship was grounded there with a Philippine flag and is used as a Taiwanese outpost in order to give the Philippines a physical presence on the island which cannot otherwise be staffed. If they did not do this, China would immediately seize control of the area. So this is no small thing. If China can successfully push them away from that island, the will be free to dominate a sizeable area that is claimed otherwise by the Philippines with no way for them to push China out again short of conflict.
As a Dutch citizen I must warn you to not underestimate Rutte, he is a monster.

China is so bad at treating it's neighbors with respect the US and Vietnam are quickly becoming friends. You know... even though we committed atrocity's to try and deny them their right to self rule. It's like if Nazi Germany was never defeated/removed from power, and Israel became their ally do to a common threat. It's insane.

It was during the Aquino III presidency that the Philippines lost 5 reefs that China turned into Artificial islands. That's why the Aquino III filed a case vs China and the Philippines won.
