Personally, my experience is that he didn't get very good until around the time of in rainbows. For me it's hard to listen to his earlier live backing vocals because he was really still learning to sing when he first started. Most singers start that way, but I must say I don't enjoy listening to it. Usually I appreciate his vocals now but I do struggle when he does the backing vocals for the tourist and never, ever sings the delayed rhythm on the "see sparks" lyric that Thom does on the album.. on the album it's so gorgeous but Ed always sings the rhythm in unison and it drives me nuts lol
I don't know how else to describe it, but this live arrangement of the Gloaming reminds me of how there are a lot of pretty cool stripped-down, minimalist songs on Talking Heads' Speaking in Tongues, but the live versions used in Stop Making Sense just hit differently in an awesome way.
This song is really amazing and makes me feel like flying and falling in a sea of sand where life is fast and soft, like a sweet wave taking me apart from the pain and bad things of this world.

Jonny playing League of Leyends while everybody is working. I hope he is winning though.
Thanks dude
And that's why he can't go faster

The best version because of BASS
Totally!!!
Epico
Bass and Phil's drumms!!
CHECKMATE album version
glastonbury 2003 is pretty dope too
I can’t get over how infectious that drum and bass groove is, wish it was on the studio version
Right? That live bass line is so kickass
No cuz that shit sends me
Yeah 🥵 one of the reasons I keep coming back
It's amazing how adding a bass and acoustic drums can transform an ok track to a straight up masterpiece.
Agree. Original version it´s even kind of boring but a basement checkout and it´s friking adictive now
this is one of the best songs by them shut up
Delusional if you think the original wasn’t a masterpiece
@@HEX_17the original is decent, this version feels far more fleshed out and full.

Let's take a moment to appreciate how gorgeously angelic Ed's backing vocals are. He's so consistent with them, yet it never ceases to amaze me.

I struggle to appreciate him as a singer, I take it more like whale sounds than a musically trained voice 😅
It's actually painful for me to listen to the album version now and get blue balled when the bass line doesn't drop 😭
Trueee
I like how the original just focuses on and highlights the crazy polyrhythms, but this version actually includes the whole band so it's cool too
Truer words have never been spoken. I just try to dance through it like Thom 😊
Apparently Colin had even said he felt that the song wasn't finished when they released HTTT lol
Same I also prefer the looped background vocals in this one
I love the way Thom’s voice strains slightly on “your alarm bells, your alarms” it adds that extra bit of tension to the ambiance
One of the best Radiohead's permormances ever!
Apparently From The Basement isn't a thing anymore unfortunately from what I hear :(
NightTime Mime-3113 :(
@@daicreep I know man, I was really hoping for AMSP from the basement too
Yo be fair I don't think it was any longer a thing even by the KoL one
the fact that it doesn't exist is CRIMINAL
Radiohead has taken over my life, and it's the best feeling ever.
Check out the song paperbag writer by them, you'll probably dig it.
Also, the whole pyramid song ep, if you haven't heard it already that is.
I definitely prefer this version with phil’s drums
Hail to the thief is underrated
agree
Johnny would find a way to make mayonnaise an instrument.
😭😭
I really want Thom to do a cover of this song where he literally just rips the original studio recording and adds in this kick ass bassline
I already had an affinity for this song but I really think this funky rendition is one of my favorite of their live songs
Honestly, this version of the gloaming is my favourite Radiohead song...
It just has this incredible aura around it.
That bassline should’ve been in Hail to the Thief.
The best live concert from the greatest band of the world.
Nahh

I LOVE this version. Colin's BASS is badass
I love watching Thom eat the microphone and then start dancing
Thom doing his best Ian Curtis dance.
probably high
@@rosapatrol yea, probably. But I got me thinking, what did he use?
I thought I was imagining that bass line because I couldn't find it on the studio line. There's a whole song right there.
this definitely what life feels like rn
How is no one in the background moving in the slightest? This song and this version especially is beyond tremendous 🤘🏽
I wish that baseline was in the recording
Glad that I can extract the bass from this version in its fullest and add it to the album version.
Amazing version.
Thom's voice here is beautiful...💙
theres something about this song and the whole album :-)
Who else could come in on a song like that other than Thom?
Wow, this version is way better than the album version
This song is really amazing and makes me feel like flying and falling in a sea of sand where life is fast and soft, like a sweet wave taking me apart from the pain and bad things of this world.
Everyone wishing the baseline was in the album version but NO I like 2 ways to listen to a song that’s why I like both versions of True love waits.
I just wanna know how people not instantly fall in love with him after seeing this
