You can tell how strong the character design is that your mum is able to easily pick out the prosecutors. I only just noticed that they use those ribbons/gems on all of them (except winston/godot)
The cravat and gems are less of a prosecutor thing in general and more of a Von Karma family thing specifically, but yeah, it's a neat little visual connection. They also share a lot of the same mannerisms/poses, just like Phoenix does with Mia.
Honestly i think his mom is just really intuitive with character design and picking out character's personality though context clues and details. She was amazing with that on the One Piece vid too.
Actually that's because von Karma raised Franziska and Edgeworth, so they learned their dress sense from him. It's still convenient visual code, though. None of the AA4-6 prosecutors have those aesthetic flairs.
I also just noticed that every prosecutor has white around their necks, the cravats of Edgeworth, Manfred and Franziska, the white tie of Godot, the white/silver pendent of Klavier, the collar and lapels of Blackquill and the floating sash of Nahyuta Edit: Also the cravat of Van Zeiks, the armour of Barnham and Darklaw's ruff

Obviously, for someone who doesn't know about the game, it shows they're intuitive but, I feel like Miles isn't all that sharp, I think there are much more sharp characters. Edgeworth, Klavier, and Franziska are obviously a lot sharper and intelligent than Miles. Kristoph obviously fits in the "sharp" characteristic a hundred more times than Miles. Godot and Manfred are probably more sharp as well. Even Trucy and Mia I'd say. @@Dragoonking17 The issue isn't normally figuring out the murderer yourself, it's being able to find evidence and establish it as Phoenix. The games will also throw the player information that will point towards a certain person, but it isn't always correct even though it seems like they have to be the culprit.
@@Dragoonking17 yes, it's called good character design. I've noticed a trend in recent years of "plot twist" being synonymous with good writing, but that's not at all how it works. Most of my favorite pieces of media I've consumed had predictable events and character actions, but the writing leading up to it was so high quality, it didn't detract from the drama of the moment. On the opposite end of the spectrum, a lot of movies and tv shows I've seen in recent years that I hated completely relied on plot twists to hide their garbage writing that made their story unappealing and their characters have inconsistent behaviors and personalities for no justifiable reason. In ace attorney, the excitement doesn't come from finding out who the bad guy is. It comes from finding inconsistencies in testimonies and unraveling the truth behind what really happened the day of the crime. Being backed into a corner, then finding a revelation that would turn the entire perception of the case on it's head. THAT is what makes the games so good.
Finally someone agrees with me that Gumshoe looks like Columbo! Him being inspired by Columbo was my own hypothesis for a while- glad someone else picked it up.
Again, the way your mom breaks down certain characteristics, and this time from just profile pictures, is just as impressive as the One Piece video. Obviously this was much more difficult because because these characters have a lot less distinguishing features. Most of them look fairly normal, with one or two really distinctive articles that give them away. Like, I was blown away with how she described Phoenix's beanie, how it made him happy. I think she was thrown off by everyone's incredibly young age and, really, the idea of most of the the characters in AA is to throw you off. I think she did great.
I never realised just how good the character design is, that someone with almost no exposure to the games can immediately tell each character's role, their personalities, and even their relations to each other.
If your Mom ended this by saying "Sike!" then introducing her Phoenix Wright fanfic, I wouldnt have been surprised. She nailed nailed this. I also love how you both use the decimal system in your ratings. Mom: 12/5
Jesus, her intuition and attention to detail are insane. I would look at every one of these and just be like "whoa that guy looks dope, I like this dude" and call it a day.

This whole conversation is so wholesome. And cudos to the character designers. If your characters can convey so much meaning through just design so that someone who doesn't know them can have a pretty good guess on their personality, thats some fine art right there!

If you have 15 bucks: Go get the original trilogy on virtually any console/PC (and I think it's even in android and ios playstore?!) and if you don't: Grab your favorite DS emulator and play it there.
Is it really that good for a murder mystery game that you're able to spot the murderer by looking at them? :D
I wish she had rated Phoenix's "current" look because I think he's like a 10/5
she's so uncannily accurate bow down before momzd
I always just kindof imagine his mom looks exactly like him except with a perm and an apron
his mom: *Gives Dahlia 4.2/5*
Me: **WHEEZING**
”Do you think Ema Skye killed somebody?”
“No.”
“Correct.”
“Good.”
Mood!
"That looks like a very, very bad guy.... He also looks like a prosecuter" 😏
"Oooh she's so cute ! What is she doing here ?" YEAH THAT'S A REALLY GOOD QUESTION ACTUALLY
Your mum is so intelligent, really makes me see the world in a different way. Love having her here !!!
Why does ProZD even try to tell his mom their ages when half the ages in AA feel like they were picked with a random number generator lol
I love how much of their personalities she is getting from the art. this video made me smile the whole time I love her
*immediately skips to gumshoe*
YEAH H-HE'S NICE, LOVE HIM.
Mom: 12/5
I had my RUclips on 0.25x speed and when I started this video it was a terrifying visceral experience
xddddd
lol
her least favorite is von karma, she knows her stuff
You know the character design is so good when someone who has never played the game can get an idea about every characters job an personalities.
I would totally watch an alternative Ace Attorney take where the Judge is a gang boss and Larry is his cunning subordinate.
and redd white is a fellow attorney that just loves his job and has a lot of fun with it
The mom: says anything*
ProZD: *"HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM"*
The mom: sees a character* *"hmmmmmmmm"*
Me: I guess it runs in the family
It runs in the blood
they are skeksis
it's a korean thing lol
@@SantaFishes101 so I guess you could say that *it runs in the race?*
Ba dum tsss
8:21 When something smells, it's usually the Butz!
Her first impression is so on point
larry is a very evil man with a very dark side I remember when he called sebastian an idiot
what an educational learning experience, damn this was cute and wholesome
Phoenix: "looks like a very determined guy with *strong evidence*"
Lady, one of his witnesses was a parrot
His mum: rates ace attorney characters
My mum: rates all candy crush levels
no
5:32 I've been waiting for this moment since the first time Sungwon had his mum rate stuff.
Jesus, her intuition and attention to detail are insane. I would look at every one of these and just be like "whoa that guy looks dope, I like this dude" and call it a day.
*looks at Pearl Fey*
She looks young, but is she actually 18?
Congrats, Sungwon, your mom has officially discovered anime
“Mom ranks” sounds like how scooby-doo would say “tom hanks”
Mama Cho's comment about Edgeworth's cravat being an old-timey England thing immediately made me think of SungWon's description of him: "He's not British, but he wishes he was."
"You let a lot of innocent people get accused."
SungWon's mom confirmed for Ace Attorney prosecutor!
Jokes aside, such a nice video. Your mom is such a good sport about these.
I’m excited for this.
Edit: Great Video 👌, you should show your mother some more Ace attorney characters in the future.
Sungwon's mom honestly seems like a sweet and fun lady to be around
9:22 She sounds disappointed even though that guess was insanely good
ikr I always thought he was in his 40s in the original trilogy
I love how they say don’t judge people by their cover when that is literally what they do in these ranking videos
Well, most of her perceptions are pretty accurate.
These are some of my favorite videos. You have a wonderful family, from "Yoour Waaaaife," to your parents, and even ProZD grandma.
What a wholesome time he had with his mom 😊
His mom is so nice and wholesome.
These videos remember me of the trend some years ago where everyone was like "Today my grandma tries to name all smash Bros characters!" but ProzD's mom shows genuine interest which makes it feel authentic and wholesome. I love these videos.
This whole conversation is so wholesome. And cudos to the character designers. If your characters can convey so much meaning through just design so that someone who doesn't know them can have a pretty good guess on their personality, thats some fine art right there!
I appreciate how even SungWon Mom was fooled by Dahlia's appearance
that's just good character design
ProZD: Alright grandma, we aren’t making you guess characters this time. This time your ranking them. We are ranking Ace Attorney
Grandma: Oh I love that game. My favorite character is Edgeworth
ProZD: GRANDMA, WHAT THE F-
Grandma: Now now, let’s get on with the video
Popopopo
Edgeworth is pretty dirty, but ngl seems smarter than Phoenix 😅

When she asked what Godot's visor was all I could think was "toaster" haha I wonder if she would have reacted to Redd differently if they had used the pic of him smiling and flashing his rings
It would be really interesting and funny to see her rank Danganronpa characters, especially with how ridiculous some of the desings can be.
*cough* hifumi *cough* teruteru
Tohru Adachi’s Nosehairs *cough* Hoshi
Until now, I never knew that Payne was in his 50's!
Let alone Franziska being 18!
I thought the same, i thought Payne was in late 30s or early 40s but not 50s
oh man, i love this series!!! have you had her rate/describe all the Mario Party characters?? i would love to see that one haha ❤️
Holy shit the character design is so good. She is literally spot on for all the characters.
Every time Sungwon reveals the character's actual age, it makes me, a 35 year old, fucking wither into dust.
You know character design is good when it gives you hints of the character life, personality and family. And make them very recognizable. Your mom is adorable! I wish more parents could just sit and participate to their kids passions/games etc
