    As a man who enjoys being by myself most of the time, I would prefer to live on my own in my last days with occasional assistance, a good dog, a good book, and wide open spaces where I can gaze at the stars at night and a view of a quiet lake, surrounded by tall trees, during the day.
    I guess that's a little too much to ask for.

      Not all families can afford basic retirement homes let alone something on this scale. Here in the UK council retirement homes still cost around 500 a week, the private home I worked in charged 1800 a week. And it was still basic. There are more and more families that are struggling to be able to secure their future or able to buy/live, more people are living day to day rather than old age. I remember a couple who sold their home to be in our unit, the sale of their house only secured them for 5 years around 260 weeks, his wife had dementia and ended up passing, his money eventually ran out, his family then had to pay, he left our unit to go in to a council uint not long after. Even when people plan and have savings, you can't predict the future.

    My mother in law moved to a retirement home where the apartments were like Manhattan Penthouses. You could get two meals delivered to your unit or eat them in the dining room. To say it was opulent is an understatement. Her monthly average bill was $9.1K and that wasn't assisted living but did include activities, housekeeping, and local transportation ( 8 private car rides per month ). Assisted Living would have run 16K-28K per month and those are the residents the operator's are looking for.....residents who have the financial ability to pay a quarter of a million dollar's a year.

      My hubby and I are in our early 40s and don’t have children; I maybe be a bit overzealous, but I have already started looking at places like this (although not as fancy). We’re not going anywhere anytime soon, but we know at some stage we’ll need assistance. It feel good to be prepared (save up) and know our options. As a younger person, I thought living in these places would be awful! But recently I realized it’s going full of people of a similar age, with similar experiences and interests as us. I like that we won’t be alone, we can easily ask for help if we need it, stepping up care if and when needed; doesn’t sound too bad at all.
      Now, we just have to make the right/best financial decisions so we can afford it!!! Thankfully, we’re don’t have any obligations to pass on/leave anything to anyone so we can spend it all!!

      Many people are murdered in the common man's nursing home. It's been going on for decades. Mostly through the shaking hands deal of nursing homes union deals with big pharma and and business called HOSPICE. It's about money, eugenics (murder), and the collection of the assets of the murdered resident.
      The nursing homes kill through the same agenda everywhere. They med up and staff down. Don't let them fool you. They work this method by design,!

They sold out their grandkids futures so that they could live a long life financially free, but like you said they will BE THE LAST and the very young people in that video who were young enough to be their grandchildren will be the first. They may laugh, dink and party now, but everything eventually comes to an end.

    I should make my 15-year-old nephew (who just began his first year in high school and is struggling with cliques) watch this to let him know that in any controlled setting, there will be cliques and that it's okay to carve your own lane; people that genuinely like you will be your friend even if you're marching to the bom-bom-bom of your own drum. These senior citizens have gone through so many things in life only to end up back in high school and forming cliques. Gives me so much confidence knowing that I live in my super power of being free and comfortable in my own lane.

      @natashadickson4819 11 месяцев назад +2

      They aren't stuck. I've worked at a place like that. Some of them have cars and can still drive and go all about town or call an Uber. Some of them fly to different states and countries to visit their adult children and their grandchildren. Also, their outside friends can and adult children come to visit. It's not a prison, it's a shared home, like any other apartment complex but with more activities for their age group. Some of them were not retired and still had jobs in the city. You don't have to be retired, you just have to be over 55. If they lose their memory, that's when their kids take away their cars so they don't get lost.

    300 years ago the overwhelming majority of people lived approximately 30 years. 200 years ago nothing had changed. 70 years ago life expectancy increased to about 45 years. Now people want to live like teenagers after 50 and single adults after 70. This is ridiculous. Life is a temporary biological phenomenon. We need to accept this. I'm 58 years old and I've lived almost twice as long as a human being lived 300 years ago and I don't intend to make plans.

Being rich doesn't mean you have to stay at the four seasons and drive a mercedes. Thats an achievable lifestyle if you're rich but its definitely not the only way to live. Dropping 300 or 400 every night for a motel that pretends to be fancy but really just lipstick on a pig. Rich people can be stingy too. There were articles on yahoo last week about a millionaire that died but nobody knew he was rich because he lived like a poor person basically.

      I agree with this too. This segregation of older people is just sad. a mixed generations home - if you’re gonna do homes. Students mixed with older people. Learn from each other. That’s invigorating. But old people’s homes I find just sad.

      We also have to think about how the invention of schools has affected us. School is a tribe in itself competing with home life, and family life. I hated school. It was traumatic more than educational.
