Thanks to everyone who helped in producing this video! Speed vector (heading indicator) also known as "arrow" has been implemented in our radar simulator program. I hope you like it and find it useful for a better context.
Very interesting video, thanks. I liked very much how atc stayed in contact with the pilots, trying to figure out as early as possible how the situation might develop.
For those who did not know, the aircraft was involved in a incident with a tug hitting the nose gear, few days before. It had been checked, but we don't know how good it was checked, this could be a case of a poor maintenance, not a poor design.
Thx for info. That would be enormous coincidence if that accident had nothing to do with that emergency. Pretty sure someone needs to be fired.I hope he will be, his actions endangered lifes of dozens of people.
And for those who wanna know all the truth this was a poor design. Hit was well before, and the part that broke was hidden and due to Bombardier it was not to be checked or replaced, and it was not connected to the hit.
If y'all ever have any 'mergencies in Kentucky and need hep with th' accents, vernacular, an' that stuff, I could help y'all with them thangs. Y'all jus' let me know.
Vas, thanks so much for your vids, they involved me into ATC and aviation. Could you please make the radar font of callsigns etc little bit bigger? I watch your vids on my phone, and the size of the font makes it hard to see aircraft positions on screens smaller than pc displays. Thanks again for the great content!
Hey, the size has already been increased since first video and many other features have been improved or added. I can see it good on my phone. I'll consider increasing it a bit more for next videos.
I love your channel! Can you make a video about the Pegasus Airlines that skid of the runway today? Really wondering what happened, I flew with them a week ago to Dubai and I didn’t feel that confident. Had 3 terrible landings, on Istanbul and Dubai and a takeoff that felt like an overweight take-off...
i was on a air canada flight when a gear collapsed on a dash 8....in Edmonton few years back...crazy all the sprarks, parts of the.prop flew into the cabin hitting people
Thanks for another great piece of ATC. Why were the the ATC and the LOT aircraft talking to each other in Polish, I thought ATC worldwide had to transmit in English only ?
They can use Polish and English but in this situation in Polish he was making sure those Polish aircarfts are aware of the situation. Polish pilots still thou use more english when there are foreign pilots on the frequency not to cause chaos but you still sometimes hear Polish on freq. BTW. In russia they use Russian all the time if there is a russian pilot
As I understand it international traffic must be English only but flag carriers(LOT is the flag carrier of Poland) and domestic traffic(private planes) are allowed to speak in their native language to Polish ATC. Air France often speaks in French when I've listened into them land at Paris Orly.
ChuckNinja Kawasaki in Warsaw FIR both English and Polish are official used languages, and service is provided in both, so no rules broken here I believe. Especially it's easier in emergency situation to coordinate and handle it properly. And yes, there is even officially Polish phraseology, which is translated version of ICAO Doc 9432.
Most countries allow two official languages in aviation - English, obviously, and the country' s own official language. If an aircraft calls me on frequency and starts speaking Czech, I should answer in Czech. It might happen that for example a VFR aircraft whose pilot is not licensed for cross-border flights (and thus does not need ICAO English lvl 4) wants to enter a controlled airspace - in which case we will use our country's official language. ATS are provided in both languages with accordance to ICAO doc 9432 (as Mateusz pointed out before me).
There's loads of offers reported incidents of landing gear failure with the dash 8. This is the reason why SAS airline got rid of the original dash 8s.
SAS had the problem with the service intervals, within the "said time interval of need to service" some part of the landing gear had started to corrode
Can you try to make a video about todays Schiphol ATC. Due to a big storm there is lots of go arounds and waiting circuits. Would love to here the ATC recordings!
The main reason is that in Modlin there are only (at least mainly) Ryanair ground ops. Somebody needs to take care of the planes and passengers after landing. For example Quatar flew to Budapest.
Thanks but can they not be handled by another company / some "generic" staff or unload the passengers and fly empty elsewhere? Where is the view of passengers landing hunreds of kms away just because the airline cannot negotiate with another company?
@@aswler in Modlin only ryanair have base. This is small airport, So i think LOT want a bigger airport like Rzeszów. But why Rzeszów? Alternate airport for Okęcie (Chopin) is Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport ain't i right?
Makes sense in the sense (hah!) that it what he says sounds like "aerodrome ... Minsk", and then researching what that flight was it was a scheduled Minsk-Warsaw flight, so he probably said Minsk. I did consider Pinsk, which is closer geographically, but there doesn't seem to be an airfield in Pinsk. *OR* this makes sense: Cargo flight can't land at destination, can reach home base. Makes sense to go back. Easier to re-do the flight than re-route the cargo via God-Knows-Where.
Yeah, that's sort of what I thought - sucks for the passengers though. I thought only Ryanair used Modlin, so props to CSA for going there (not that they really could have gone anywhere else that's a normal destination for them, but maybe they are in alliance with someone that flies somewhere not-WAW they could theoretically have gone to). As a passenger I would have been much happier ending up at Modlin than in Poznan or Rzeszow...
Moving everything EPWA to EPMO is not that easy as it may seem, but it's easier to lot divert to departure/based airports (airline representatives on the airports)
EPMO is too small, and LOT prefer to divert to airports they operate. CSA landed at EPMO, because plane is small and they can fit there, and passengers waiting for flight from warsaw to Prague were actually took to modlin
Modlin does not have a service for all aircrafts. Other thing is if the airport would be closed for whole night there is a morning flight from Rzeszów to Warsaw so it was perfect fit. In Rzeszów is all staff for our aircrafts with hotels, and there are buses contracted for such a situation. Modlin is almost owned by Ryanair and they have only equipment for 737.
This is my goto recommend video when people complain about ATC's not handling everything in english down to the last bush airport in Brazil orRussia. . The way the ATC guy seemlessly switches between polish and english shows, that it can be done, as long as you're good in both. The controversial cases are often some, where ATC or pilots are unexpectedly faced with international travel who are NOT good at english. Like this lady here ruclips.net/video/Zh9c1UyIrdg/видео.html (this channel) in a small airport faced with a lot of reroute traffic from a big one, basically ignoring every english speaker..... But this polish ATC shows that this doesn't have to be a general rule.
I'm actually wondering about that a little myself, but we see that all the official radio traffic is in English; the Polish traffic was some admin discussion from the pilots probably being relayed to Ground.
There is no such rule. Normally all standard communication is in English as it’s easier for both pilots and atc (standard phraseology, no need to switch and think about it) but it’s the pilot that dictates the language. For non-standard communication it’s absolutely normal that they use their native language.
You can just skip the parts you find boring. I wanted to show the whole time from emergency arrival to airport closure and how everybody worked (holdings, fuel remaining, doubts with diversions, possible diversions...)

VASAviation - Very good site. Thank you.
Which radar simulation program is this? Or is this all done with ivai? 😮
Very nice job. The maps, aircraft, timing... all wonderfully done! Keep up the good work :)
Not suprised this went so smooth considering circumstances. LOT has a very skillful and good record for gear up landings
Which means, regardless, that their gears usually fail!? Good pilots, and maybe horrible maintenance...!¿?
It was eurolot, not lot
The controller did a really good and professional Job :)
Very interesting video, thanks. I liked very much how atc stayed in contact with the pilots, trying to figure out as early as possible how the situation might develop.
Kudos to all LOT Polish pilots out there. Looks like they all know how to land with an emergency involving landing gears.
Most patient atc ever
Not surprised, Polish people are skilled at anything :)
We will do everything and we will land everywhere :D
30 years ago Europe was laughing at polish people.
Nobody is laughing today.
100% Polish and proud 👍🏻
That's right, we are proud!

The nose gear was hit by a pushback car in Katowice on 6.12.2017 so that was over a month.

Awesome video i was waiting for.
Just little thing, when they talking about 30 minutes of fuel, they mean holding fuel, not overall fuel.
Obviously, haha. If not, they were all in fuel emergency.
9:25 he says Warsaw-Okecie, I believe.
Yep, definitely.
Makes sense, thanks!
They were reducing not about PIBAR but BEMRA point ;)
Here, in Poland, we have very good pilots and controllers ;) thx VASAviation for this video :D

Well, in this situation i'm pretty sure landing safely is more important than obeying worldwide laws.

seems like there is too many issues with the dash 8 gear. this is not the first incident
Khalid_Hatim Yes, OU464 in 2013 had the same problem

I wonder why several planes chose to divert to Rzesow instead of the other Warsaw airport? Is Rzesow not much further away from Warsaw?
The main reason is that in Modlin there are only (at least mainly) Ryanair ground ops. Somebody needs to take care of the planes and passengers after landing. For example Quatar flew to Budapest.

what does "full star" mean? all emergency equipment on the airfield to be there i assume?
KytoRS It means he wants to fly the full STAR (standard arrival route), most probably to burn as much fuel as possible.
STAR is for "Standart Terminal Arrival Routes" which means that they were flying normal approaching routes, they didn't have to shorten their path
Some good people already answered :)
