    Nice entry level deck, just a few things so you know, that thing you call a "wheel" is called a flywheel, the rod attached to it is called the Capstan, the little plastic piece you used to hook the belt is actually there for that purpose, as for Deck 2 only working in reverse, take the cover off, fool the machine into thinking there's a tape in there, press the forward play button and observe what's going on, see why the reel isn't turning, do the same for the other deck and note what it does because it works, this will narrow down the problem, could be hardened grease, those flat ribbon cables are easy to disconnect to give you lots of room.

      Also the part of your vernier calipers you used to measure is incorrect, it has to be on the sharp part a little higher up, near the point.

      And to make it easier for yourself to put bands on, use a dental pick, or something with a little hook, it makes the job so much easier!

      Thanks for the advise. I will keep that in mind when I measure next time. I just wanted to show that there was a difference when boiling the belts. Thanks for watching!

      I have a technics rs tr155 and I have the same exact problem on both decks , do you think I should put new belts since the boiling method did not work for me , or do you think it's a mechanical issue ? Please advise . Thank you!

      Thank you Nick your comments are a great help to me. I have two technics cassettes ch950/550 with similar problems. Cant find any videos on here for RS CH players sadly. I'll have to work through the tutorials of other models. Thanks again. Regards

    Oh this is the old disintegrating gear mechanism with the techniques. I had the Kenwood version or I should say I have it. I got two new gears from either the Netherlands or Slovakia. I can't remember but replaced that gear and they work like a charm. Really nice decks. As long as you know about that gear you can fix them really good. Also, I should mention I didn't have really good luck with square belts on that drive mechanism. He kept turning and turning and doing somersaults on the pulley. But once I put a round belt on it, the smaller belt that is it works just fine

    Thanks! I guess I will try to fix my Technics RS-TR373 by boiling the belts.

    Good video! I have a RSTR515 which is similar to this deck. I think it's fantastic for the price. Wonderful sound on my system with normal and chrome tapes. Mine had bad clicking in it in both decks when I first received it due to a cog in the centre of both mechanisms that transfers drive to the reels going soft and loosing teeth, a common issue for these decks apparently. After ordering two new cogs and studying youtube videos on how to access the cog to replace it, both decks are now working. Only problem now is deck one will not engage in the reverse direction, and I haven't yet figured out why. Both deck mechanisms look identical to me and I can't see why deck 2 works in reverse and deck 1 doesn't. It trys to, the heads spin the reverse way but before the head bridge engages, they spin back forward again. They won't lock in the reverse direction position for some reason. Probably a simple fix but beyond my basic knowledge level so I've just been enjoying deck 1 in forward only mode. Any auto reverse action must happen in deck 2. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know though. It's coming apart again soon as the original belts are starting to need replacement, so maybe I'll have another go at making deck 1 auto reverse again.

    It needs a new auto reverse gear ⚙ you can get the gear on eBay. There are videos on RUclips that shows you how to change the gear. Gear costs about $10

    I have watched your videos trying to hook my system back together. it was working and I had to take all the component's apart to move it. I had someone else put it together originally. I have spent hrs trying to figure it out. do you have a video that I may have missed? My system has a SA-EX510 receiver, SL-PD888cd,and SH-GE50 equalizer. I'm not good at this stuff.

    • @joelsdiy9469
      @joelsdiy9469  Год назад

      The equalizer needs to be plugged in correctly. This is why you probably aren't getting any sound. Make sure that you plug your equalizer's out into the amp's in and vice versa with the other output next to it (Rec and Play). After that you should be able to plug everything back and get sound. Remember that tape decks have to have their out plugged into your amps in and vice versa. I hope this is helpful, wish I can see a picture of your setup, but that's all I got. Thanks for watching!

    Had the same deck - did exactly the same thing. It must be a worn tire ort messed up gear. I gave up too.

      I am just happy that I got it to play again, although it was a temporary fix. It works fine if you're able to play the tape in auto reverse. Thanks for watching!

    Does shrinking the belt by boiling it work>?

    • @joelsdiy9469
      @joelsdiy9469  2 года назад

      Kinda. It did work for this machine. Was able to play without failure, but its definitely only a temporary fix. Thanks for watching!
