just amazing. carter is absolutely the most musically interesting drummer to hit the scene in decades. i am just completely in awe of his fluidity and musicality on the drum kit. i'm 48 years old and have worked with some amazing drummers in the studio...levon helm, keltner, bun e carlos, and so many others...but carter is up there. for a younger guy, he exudes a level of experience that belies his age. i'm just always amazed at his playing. he's got chops for days, and his single stroke rolls are unreal...but it's his pocket and groove that blow me away. he has the touch. he's one of the few drummers i can happily listen to playing by himself...but i love his playing with charlie hunter. i can't wait to hear more from him.

I too love Carter’s touch and musicality. He makes the simplest thing sound so darn good. 16th notes on a shaker? And make it groove all by itself? Carter. Also, that ride on his right... He crashed it at the beginning and I thought “That sounds like Art Blakey’s ride.” LOVE.
These are some of the best sounding drums I've ever heard. Played by one of the best modern drummers.

JOEYWHO That’s true, to some extent. Carter has a knack for great drum tuning. His kits consistently sound fantastic.
One of THE most enjoyable players to listen to that I've heard in the last 20 years, at least!
Every once in a while, someone truly masters their instrument and creates art with it. I just “play” my drums, though I think I do it pretty well. But then there are people like Carter who make actual music with their drums. I’m stuck between feeling overwhelmed at hoping to someday live up to what he’s achieved and also feeling inspired that those levels are possible to reach. For some people, maybe.
Carter is becoming one of my favorite drummers. I've never heard anyone play a trap set that literally will cause an ASMR reaction. Totally hypnotic.
This man really knows how to make music behind the kit. Most drum solos consist of showing off and trying to do the hardest thing to impress, They forget to actually try to make music and that has mainly been the popular norm. To have someone who is able to compose a moving solo and focus on taking the listener some where musically is very rare for a drummer.

Fantastic.I love how Carter's performances are real pieces of music. Not like so many other drummers where you get walls of sound that apply whatever technical exercise happens to be in vogue, or ridiculous polyrhythms that sound terrible. Awesome work Carter and DCP for another outstanding video.

Just incredible. Sure the kit sounds amazing but holy shit his ability to groove like that while being so technically proficient is unreal- not to mention the creativity which is also absurd.

For many years I'd thought that Manu Katché had the most unique "lightness of touch" (Peter Gabriel quotation) on the drums. Since discovering Carter McClean a few years ago, I've had a change of heart. Carter's technique draws such a beautiful tone from every instrument he strikes and his playing is so subtle and musical it's truly awe-inspiring!
Well Manu Katche is one of Carter's favorites
@@1musikgeek I didn't know that, but I'm not surprised. Subtle brilliance is their common denominator. I'm a huge fan of both but, unfortunately, I play like neither.

I thing I really dig with Carter, he is into the sound of the drums and just jams away using sensitivity and having fun pulling the sound out. He could make garbage cans sound groovy!
