Incredible Studio! It’s obviously such a personal, meaningful space. I can’t thank you enough for making Audimute part of your success story. I am truly humbled and appreciative.
I remember when you posted this one and I was like, Ima watch that in a minute. I finally watched it, it was great like everything else! Appreciate you sharing it all, what a great collection of treasures and tools, and a beautiful space you made.
That was wicked Carter! You have a good looking studio! Loved the little stories you have about the drums and cymbals. I’m today, without knowing about this video, going to try 1 kick and 1 ribbon overhead for recording drums, how weird is that. Your sound is always amazing, fun to see that it’s a pretty simple setup too.
Those club dates are sweet! I agree about the vibe of the old vintage gear... I had a black oyster club date kit that I regretfully sold some time ago. Had a Rhodes too that I bought in a garage sale for $50 back in the day!!! Great setup, Carter.
Hey Carter, I would love to hear about how you did the HVAC system. Specifically the vents, since they seem to bring the most noise to the rest of the house!
As an amateur acoustician, as soon as I saw that wall of diffusers, I had to guess all of the treatment alone in that room is valued well in the 5 digit price range.
Amazing recording Space.......Interesting idea when you talked about recording w/one overhead or just giving a client a /raw' un mixed drum track, one could probably spend a day or two just talking about microphones and mic'ing...thanks again for the tour!
while it's pouring in my country I've been invited to the most influential musical drummer of recent years. after the private tour a nice cup of coffee
Love your studio brother -- looks great! Sick drum collection. I have a multi Apollo setup in my two spaces for tracking and mixing. Love the Universal Audio stuff -- I use a combo of outboard hardware pres and the UA plugins to track drums. Out of curiosity (and when you have time) you should compare the the UA Neve and API pres for tracking to your hardware -- I especially love the API Vision Channel Strip for tracking and/or mixing drums. BTW -- you were the one that turned me on to Stager mics. I have a pair of SR-2N's and an SR-1A -- love em.
Fantastic video Carter! Very grateful to you for showing us all your treasures. All your drums are lovely. I don't know too much about studio set ups but it's interesting to see that you only have a small amount of mics and utilise a very simple system for miking drums. Refreshing in this world of much over processed music! I have one question - what's the bass tucked away in the corner? Could see it was a Fender but not much else! Thank you! Cheers!🙂
Hey Carter! Thank you for opening the doors of where you make music, and share some wisdom, I’m interested in getting a pair of 12” hi-hats, do you have any idea about the weights of them? The6 sound marvelous! If I had the chance to order some with about the same weight, it would be wonderful… thank you so much in advance…
what's cool about the apollo is you can use different mic pres for flavors(neve, api, harrison, telefunken, 610) etc... I would be interested in your opinion of the real neve/api vs the plug ins. love your drumming and sounds you get! thanks man
I have one of those all aluminum prototype acrolites with the aluminum hoops and all. It still has the original heads and wires. Has a big chunky welded plate in it. I'm going to rehead and put new wires on. Any recommendations for wires?
What do you have under the snares on the snare drums on the shelf? Looks like some cardboard to stop snares from going crazy. Good idea, I've never seen that before.
I'm the future, def just hold the camera and get into the nooks and Craneys and get close, stand on the tripod when necessary, but I'm telling ya, people want motion, they wanna feel like they're in the room.myself included.j wanna see every drum up super close.i wanna see the whole room. Up close n personal! 😂 👍 Such a cool room regardless
Carter, did you build your desk yourself or was it purchased from a builder? I love how clean and compact it looks, especially with the 88 key rollout shelf.
Did you change the wall texture? I remember a faux stone wall texture other than the black skyscape texture on opposite side, maybe saw stuff that wasn't there. Love your music and hearing what your recording chain is. You obviously know where the line between here's what I use and being a showoff douche is, no slow-mo slide-cam footage of each mic.
Where's the newest exactly (re)produced Ludwig snare drum? The Carter McLean Signature '66 4x14 Champagne Sparkle Downbeat Snare Drum(WITH the offset lugs)? (I'm just askin'). I would gladly give up the rarity of my two Downbeats just to see the smile on your face. (only 'Squares' get 'hooked').
Have you checked under the butt plate of that acrolite? It might have the famous 'b' stamped. I dunno if your much of acrolytes or supra phonics, but if your ever looking for info, both bonzoleum and George fludas here on yt are Bonham freaks and very well versed on Ludwigs.its amazing how deep the rabbits hole goes Especially on supras. Such cool drums.theres so much to know.sp much to be confused by.
Great studio Carter keep up the great work! I have a small kit 16 inch tom for the bass drum and a 10 top tom and 16 floor tom but they are both single hsaded and shallow. I'm interested in micing preferably something minimal 2 overheads and a kick. Sabian sells a mic set one with a mixer. Or would you recommend something else or try that? I probably cant spend to much 500ish or under tight budget.Thank you in advance Sir
Hi buddy, I used a Zoom H4n with the inbuild mics and two extra mics in the input left&right. After the recording I transferred into a daw ( logic). Watch my channel you’ll be amazed by the sound. Grts from Europe
Thank you very much for this tour, Carter. It's great stuff in the hands of a great musician, resulting in a challenge for other drummers not to spend all their money on buying so many drums and cymbals.... :-)
Just wondering how you go about recording when your kit is set up on the other side of the room away from your desk? How do you get your levels and start and stop recordings?
Incredible Studio! It’s obviously such a personal, meaningful space. I can’t thank you enough for making Audimute part of your success story. I am truly humbled and appreciative.
I'm enjoying this video on my couch with a warm cup of tea and M&M's. Greetings from Helsinki!
I remember when you posted this one and I was like, Ima watch that in a minute. I finally watched it, it was great like everything else! Appreciate you sharing it all, what a great collection of treasures and tools, and a beautiful space you made.
I have been waiting for this for years

Would love to more about the treatment of the room, the diffusing panels on the walls and such. Great space!

Hey Carter, I would love to hear about how you did the HVAC system. Specifically the vents, since they seem to bring the most noise to the rest of the house!
OK I love that I have that same exact Ikea cabinet in my home studio... maybe we've started a thing!
20:55 to 21:06
Idk why I found that funny. Sick vid dood. I love behind the scenes type of stuff.
Great tour. Very informative. Thanks kindly!
Very cool space!!! Incredible.

Man… you know it’s a good studio when the cheapest thing are the drums 😂
What’s the black wall material? Looks great.
Nice, how about the camo sneakers? What's the 411 on them?
What do you have under the snares on the snare drums on the shelf? Looks like some cardboard to stop snares from going crazy. Good idea, I've never seen that before.

Hey Carter, great video. What's the name/brand of the little stand you store your cymbals on?
Many thanks
Carter, did you build your desk yourself or was it purchased from a builder? I love how clean and compact it looks, especially with the 88 key rollout shelf.
Pretty sure it’s the Output Platform desk.
Thank you!
For a second when you said Earthworks i thought you'd taken Bruford's place! :D
This is very inspirational.
I want that sweatshirt lol!
YES!!
Did you sell your Audioscape DComp and Pultec style EQ’s? Saw the rack was empty in the vid.
Loved the tour. I'm a raging gear head.
Looks (and sounds) fantastic! What are your room dimensions & ceiling height?
Crazy that I was looking for something like this through your videos to know what do you have, 10 minutes before you uploaded the video 0.0
Did you change the wall texture? I remember a faux stone wall texture other than the black skyscape texture on opposite side, maybe saw stuff that wasn't there. Great stuff! Ever considered doing a tuning video?
There is an hour long HD video on my website cartermclean.com
Nice Equipment ;-)
What heads do you prefer to use? Thanks

Hey! Where did you get your cymbal bag from? Digging all your gear man!
Absolute legend! , What is that clutch you have on the 15’ Agop sigs?
Cheers .
Cherry hill makes em. Micro clutch
Thank you very much for this tour, Carter. It's great stuff in the hands of a great musician, resulting in a challenge for other drummers not to spend all their money on buying so many drums and cymbals.... :-)
I'm surprised that you don't have a super sensitive snare drum
where have u taken that hoodie?
Just wondering how you go about recording when your kit is set up on the other side of the room away from your desk? How do you get your levels and start and stop recordings?
Not sure how he does it, but the avid control iPad app can be pretty helpful.
Wireless apple keyboard ⌨️
different kind of gain stage
Hi Carter, how many drum kits do you have? and how many snare drums?
All in the video 😁
well, it's a beautiful collection with only pearls
Nice 👍
Well I have a new favorite RUclips video
neat!
So you're telling me you're a Rogers guy? 😂😂
I want my Wfl kit back🙈
The secret sauce is sound, not chops, and Carter is a saucier. I get the old drums as I buy old Sonors.
Puh! 😌
This is what I call drumporn!
Man that empty maple rack is giving me GAS.
Dedicated omni room mics so perfect, must give you joy.
