EVANS Drum heads are fantastic. I've been playing on them for years. My solid maple Noble & Cooley snare sounds excellent with them. Immediately when I put them on, they already sound "broken in". Keep up the great work Evans!
I just discovered you while watching an Istanbul Dry Dark vid and you are very inspiring! Your playing is ridiculously awesome! I could only dream to be that proficient on the kit🥱😴. Pls make more vids🤟
@@Adixon5 thanks for the obvious info but for us who dosent have space for a kit we have to use keyboard so yeah im going to jam on my keyboard in superior drummer
Received my Strata 1000 from D’Addario today, less than 48hours after watching this video. It sounds great on my vintage Supraphonic and I’m really impressed with the speedy delivery. Thanks Carter and D’Addario!
I just received my Strata 1000 today which I intend to put on my Supra! Can't wait to hear how it sounds! I intend on pairing it with an Orchestral 300 snare side.
Such a solid player. No weaknesses. He obviously loves playing straight grooves and burying himself deep in the pocket, BUT, he's actually extremely versatile. He's one of those guys that could play a metal gig in the morning, a funk or hip-hop gig at noon, and then a straight jazz set at night.
The playing here is fantastic as always and the recording is great. This video confirmed again something that I’ve believed and witnessed for many years as a professional touring drum technician. Evan’s heads almost ALWAYS sound better in person behind the drum kit and are easier to tune but consistently sound worse and than their Remo competition under microphones both studio and live. I’ll really miss the sound of the Remo heads on your drums Carter but I respect your appreciation for these. Evan’s is a great company to work with and I’m sure you’ll really enjoy playing them.
I thought it was just ME that found Evans heads easier to tune. I have them on my kicks and toms, but I must admit that I've gone back to Remo for snare batters. 'Course I don't pretend to even have 10% of Carter's tuning or playing skills!
black (and white) dots are some of the heads that keep me from going full Evans. I love them as reso heads. Wish Evans made some (that didn't look goofy)
This is a really great and informative way to showcase the heads you are currently using. The video taught me a bit about some of the different heads that Evans offers, and now I am considering getting some of those Strata heads for some of my drums. I wasn't aware of that model until I watched this video. Thank you so much!
I’ve never been so full of drum envy in my life!!!!! Lol!!!! Carter, I haven’t been hip to you very long, but you have QUICKLY become one of my favorite players bro! Everything you touch sounds AMAZING!!! And it’s so inspiring!!!!!!! Thank you so much man and keep up the great work!!!!
Love the kit sounds. Thanks for taking time to do this video. I love Evans heads. I have never heard the stratas on a kit before. Thanks for all the info.
I also just started using the same tom configuration you're using, and I was also just blown away by how effortlessly they just sound good. They have such a crazy tuning range and work everywhere!
good lawdy lawdy lawdy they all sound fantastic. LOVE the ride cymbal too. whew weeee...and the sound from that third drum set...wowzers. that snare!! laid back and groovy playing sir. Those calf tones have such a warm sound to them, and those EC2's, thunderous!
This honestly helped me decide to keep playing Evans. I was worried my sound wasn’t versatile, but after seeing how you made the kits sound, I wouldn’t want to try anything else. Cant wait to try the sticks!
This is how a masterful demo is done.. so why not get a master to demo them? This confirms all of my love for Evans heads and such beautiful drumming reminds me of why I play in the first place.. Thank you Carter and Evans
Mister McLean congratulations you have proposed a drumming with high level grooves, it is really pleasant to listen to it. Only you with your drums played a rhythm piece for drums.Fantastic.👍🥁
I saw Billy a few times, Carter is way cleaner. Cobham has a much grittier and looser feel irl. Definitely no where near as clean as McLean... its in the name. But Cobham does know how to fit into incredible bands with unique parts like no other!
Carter you have tones to die for..Wonderful playing mate..Love what you bring to the table..Evans are lucky to have you on board..Maybe do a tuning vid..I would love to see how you tune..Keep up the great playing.
It's cool to see you with Evans now. Those drums sound great especially in my opinion the 7 piece kit. I love it. I've gotta get me a Ludwig maple classic drum kit. Congrats I know I'm a year late, Lol. Better late than never
Ok, I’m digging the strata. I know what my next purchase is. You need to talk about your Jazz rides. I got them, love them. I bought the whole set. Quite possibly the best cymbals I’ve ever played. Back to the Strata, I thought it sounded amazing on the snare. I’ve been digging the UV series
Ok. That’s it, I’m done. That sample of the Classic maple with the EC2 heads, that’s the decider. I’ve been going back and fourth between Ludwig Classic Maple or Pearl Reference Pearl due the last two months. That sound is. fucking. Perfect.
Genera Reso, yes! I have yet to hear an explanation about how those are different from G1s, Evans' other 10mil single-ply clear head, but they are different, and I've always preferred the sound of the Genera Resonant.
Carter was off my radar until I searched for Remo Black Dots and found his clip with the 7 piece Ludwigs a few months back. I was missing out... I’ve been using EC2 batter heads for years on my kits. For a short while Evans had an EC1 single ply as well. I was disappointed when they discontinued them.
Carter is such a joy to watch play! He loves what he does and it’s clear! P.s. you should do a video showcasing the Supra’s you have and what range tuning they’re capable of!!
what a wonderful sound! and what a great and refined musical taste! but are your sticks unavailable now? I can't wait to try them! I really like their sonic characteristic, this great attack and this dark and so defined sound that gives a great sound performance on the whole set! the ping on the ride is also wonderful, full defined and powerful!
The heads sound great. Obviously these would work well in jazz and other vintage music but I imagine that they would sound good in some doom rock/metal styles as well.
I've been using the EC2s on my Tom's and a Genera Dry in my snare.... two of the best musical and decisions I've ever made for my drums, and I know they'll last me quite a while!.
Kaman is on it my man. I gig your stick as well ita got an erskine type fat tip. Bounces great. Played 8a regal tips for a long time, really dug the carlock regals before he switched to vick... the feel is a bit more back on the shaft rather than further towarda the tip. Either way keiths stick feelz great and sounds great on the cymbals and close up tone from the drummers perspective which i dig. The thing is those little peni5 tips wear done quite quickly or can chip off and after that your not left w much. Dig that your stick is bigger as well but the tone out front sounds fantastic bro and always better to let the stick do the work. I also got jnto a stick rut with both erskine sticks and especially loved the sounds of the ride stick so seems like a great marriage all around.
I’m with ya. Evans makes great heads... I do like an EMAD on a kick from time to time. But especially when it comes to vintage drums, Remo heads just sound better. I find that the Evans stuff makes my vintage Ludwig kits sound “boxy.”
The way you play and tune your drums make any heads sound great! Evan’s is lucky to have you sir! Well done!
Thank you!
Perfect playing, thanks for creative comparison for EVANS heads fans!
I think it worth adding time codes for quick navigation:
3:13 Calftones on everything
5:33 Calftone snare, Strata 1000 toms, UV1 kick
8:45 Strata Stacatto snare, UV1 toms, EQ4 batter kick
10:38 Strata 1000 snare, Calftone toms, UV1 kick
14:09 UV1 snare, EC2 toms, EQ4 batter kick
Welcome to the family, Carter!
Very happy to be here!!!

Definitely preferred the sound of the Remo heads, but congrats regardless!

I’m really into drum gear but the player is always the key. This is the example.
My God the calftones on the first kit. Every rock kit should sound this good.

Those black dot Remos sound realy nice in that video!
@@JohnD72277 the white dot aquarians made me switch
@@jadeone as silly as this sounds, the dot isn’t big enough on the bass drum sizes for my tastes. Purely visually - I’m sure it sounds great.
@@JohnD72277 makes sense! I play a 22" kick so I def get it
I've played Evans, Remo, and Aquarian. Evans are by far my favorite. With the 360 design they tune up very easily. And I'm a fan of the UV1 coating.
