As much as I love your on a boat be it Rutland or other waters for trout. Your love for the lady of the stream shows the pure magic of fishing for them. On a river I would rather catch and release several even small grayling than a single large brown. Even at competition levels there is the friendly banter from years ago. Never underestimate the power of water especially during the colder months. In a second a slip can take your feet from under you. The cold shock can quickly get you into trouble. Good news that both guys except for pride not hurt or worse. When the guy on camera slipped close to the bank so lucky not to damage the rod.
Been swimming myself while wading in the Muskegon River in Michigan… same sort of words came out of my mouth !!😂 great video thanks for sharing the inaugural event ….
@@lindsayiflyfish … ohhh you doing a bit of early season Steelhead fishing then !?!? Wait till you hook into one of those beasts in a fast current …. They’ll test you and your tackle … the tail water section below Croton Dam is a blue ribbon Steelhead and Salmon river and it holds some big browns as well … I’ve lots of great fishy memories with some buddies and I on that river 😄…. I’ve moved to Colorado now and just getting into fly fishing around here (both river and still waters) … there’s a couple of small lakes a few hours from me stocked with some chunky grayling and come the summer when they’ve defrosted I’ll be taking a trip up there … anyhoo again thanks for sharing a very entertaining video ATB Dave Mc
If you don't know the water don't take any chances that guy was lucky if that was a bigger water he would have been a gonner very lucky lesson learned a friend of mines dad did the same thing he was found two weeks later never get out your depth
Need to be careful wading in a river that powerful. Talk about being out of your depth! As soon as I saw him in the middle of the river I knew he was going dooking for apples, or grayling!😅
Great video and a fantastic competition enjoyed taking part and looking forward to next year
Same here!
Well organised comp 🏴 Great video and good to meet you down there Lindsay
Thanks pal 👍
I have never hooked up a Grayling and never fished a competition. Both are on my to do list.

@lindsayiflyfish perfect month, I always go week of vernal equinox, lucky week for me usually. Good luck you'll have fun
Maybe better coming with us to the tay for some wading lessons lol 😊
I could do with some of that as well.....lol.
Lol its all part of the fun 🤣
I was getting seasick watching that boy talking at awards 😂😂
lol....... You were a great sport pal.
Well done all just a question what weight tungsten bead do you use on the point fly as I’m trying lol
Really depends on the depth of water and strength of flow but invariably in the winter months it will usually be 4mm.
@@lindsayiflyfish cheers I fish the Rum and like when you fished it it’s flying through 👍
Great video, but a wading staff wouldnt go amiss
I won’t be without it next year!

That’s really sad, that’s why it’s important to fish with a buddy. That said these guys are all experienced anglers.

I have done it myself, you think you are fine until you’re not.
@@lindsayiflyfish We’ve all been there. If the wives seen what we got up to they’d have a fit! 🎣
@@alanstead1379 lol my wife will be upping the life insurance....lol
Oops
....lol it does get worse.
Not good !!
It’s so important to go fishing with a friend this time of year. Especially if you don’t know the river.
