I heard that it was composed by Eric Clapton (joke). You know, I think about it. I'm sorry, but this is the effect it has on me. I'll watch Page's guitar playing from this movie and I think, WOW THAT IS SO AWESOME, and then I'll try to watch Eric Clapton and I think WHAT? Blah! Sorry, but BLAH! He's no where even being near being at Page's level.

@@thiessboss There are recordings from all three nights Zeppelin played in NYC in July '73 (27, 28, & 29th). Each solo is a bit different so even though Page had a general idea of what he wanted to do during the solo much of it is improvised and the July 27th version is probably his best. Having it recorded by legendary recording engineer Eddie Kramer makes it that much better.

This is THE best version of the solo there is. If anybody knows of one better, please let me know. But I've listed to countless bootlegs, and this is the best. Page could get sloppy with it....especially on later tours....and it changed every night (which makes Zeppelin so awesome), but this is the best one. Fluid and focused and whippin' ass.

I used this video for my presentation in English about Led Zeppelin at my school at the end.. My school mates were blown away of Jimmy Page's guitar playing and they smiled when they saw Robert Plant's frontman skills..😂😂

I sometimes think Jimmy Page was a drummer in a guitar player’s body. There is such a unique timing to the stuff he plays. I’ve seen many try. I’ve not seen one replicate what he’s doing here. I’m not a guitarist, and so I really don’t know what it takes to be able to do so note-for-note. But as a drummer I feel that anyone trying to cover this as it is really needs to get into the solo from a drummer’s perspective. His playing is very percussive and rhythmically nuanced. I have to believe that’s the only way to really nail it.
First, he creates a chord progression and then Bonham creates the backing track. He improvises over pentatonic/major/minor/blues scales... using the notes from the chord progression and bases his timing on the drums.
...and thats why John Bonham was considered The Backbone!
It is not all about how much you shred and how fast you play and how many notes you can hit. It is about the emotion and the style. (and yes, how technically good the solo is). I feel like the studio version has a lot more soul in it and emotion. Rather, this is more of shredding. In any case, both are beautiful. I do not consider this overrated at all.
