- In the deepest, darkest parts of the oceans are ecosystems with more diversity than a tropical rainforest. Taking us on a voyage into the ocean -- from the deepest trenches to the remains of the Titanic -- marine biologist David Gallo explores the wonder and beauty of marine life.
Dammit, this should have been like 2 hours long minimum.
He spoke way too fast and the pictures went too quickyl ;(
I could spend all day learning new things about the deep ocean! And I am a water person I fish ,surf, swim, boat, I love the water!
You be trippin
Not enough people would click on it.
We can only give you eight minutes. Go now. Speak!

Why are so many compelled to go to space when our Earth offers so much. May we all be more peaceful and loving and less dominating and hateful. Nice video!!! 🙏💙
I feel the same way, no telling how many ancient civilizations there are that are underwater waiting to be discovered
This is one of the most amazing Ted Talk ever. I appreciate the effort that oceanographers exert to unravel the mysteries of the ocean.

"largest waterfall on the planet is actually under the ocean (near Iceland)" incredible!!
Yahiya Yahiya sadly he didn't show it!
Yeah saw it that time sponge bob was waiting on that bus...
I believe mauna kea in hawaii is technically the tallest mountain on earth. It is about 33k feet tall from the lowest point under the ocean to the tallest point 4k feet above sea level.
Crazy huh?
Yahiya Yahiya yeah except it’s near Madagascar not Iceland
@@TANQ31 well mountains are actually sometimes 10 times deeper than they appear.
Most of the mountain (its root) is under the ground. They are like pegs that overall stabilise the crust of continents.
They are like the footings for a building, the foundation! But of course we cannot see this only through seismology can we detect this.
THAT'S IT JUST 8 MINS ?!
AH C'MON...
MY POPCORN IS STILL POPPING !
Fantastic video, you can really hear the passion in his voice and he is hitting such an important topic, we know more about space than we do of our own ocean!
That's inaccurate
No we don't.
Space is fake.
@@johncampbell829 really?
Amazing! I love listening to this man!! He doesn't talk down to us, he shares his excitement about what he's doing. Nice job, Dr Gallo!

I am enthralled and would do ANYTHING to be part of this exploration team! A life long dream of mine and so inspiring to see this happening! TY David Gallo!
you have to keep in mind, just the Pacific ocean is larger than ALL Continents put together!
Best , .A,,,wilĺ...do it
WOW!
What? 😮
@@theemirofjaffa2266 yes, the Pacific is 183 million square km, all continents put together are 150 million square km
Wow 😶
Fascinating! Great presentation. Well done. Thank you, Dr. Gallo!
I love anything about the ocean. The animals, the plants, why is it blue? Or green? It’s very interesting that we have lakes in our oceans n rivers n waterfalls? Wow!! So cool not to mention the volcanos firing up the bottom in places, a wonderful world we live in and once more ppl understand how beautiful it really is maybe...there would b more ppl who will want to take care of her, keep it clean for us n all that live in water full time. Can’t wait to see what will happen cuz it’s unexplored to date. Better days ahead friends if we want it.
This would be my dream job... I love the ocean and marine life so much, even though I've lived in a desert my whole life and never even been on the ocean. Maybe that's why I find it so fascinating!
Where do you live Laura?
Fantastic. Thank you, David Gallo. Thank you very much.
This guy was great!!! My fav ted talk!
Fantastic stuff. Gallo is a great presenter. What you think is out of breath is excitement and enthusiasm
Life’s full of surprises
I wish to be much longer, just amazing stuff coming from this man
Grand merci. Encore beaucoup de choses à voir.
Incredibly beautiful!
Excellent presentation. It even has humor. I agree with this guy. This is an amazing planet and the deep waters are like outer space. Thanks so much for posting this video.
Wow! Thank you.
Why would anyone dislike this? For a quick internet video this was one of the most interesting ones I've ever seen. Knowledge is power people
I keep hearing 5% explored since i was in school many decades ago.You would think after a century since they started, it would be at least 6% by now.
Exactly 😂😂😂
I think that the more we learn about the ocean, the more we know how much we don't know. The multitudes of environments, like that pond or that river, was unknown when you were in school. Science was a bit naive when spouting off I think.
Presenters and lecturers are always filling in facts with anecdotal guesstimates.
HA! I was thinking the same thing.
😂😂😂
At 7.49 I thought, how can this speech possibly be better. And then he quoted Proust. Good man.
I want to be a marine biologist/oceanographer. The ocean is amazing, even though scares the crud out of me. It's beautiful above and below the surface. I've always loved it.
wow david gallo, that was awe inspiring, thank u. that little paper flat thing is amazing.
Fuck it. I'm going back to school to become a marine biologist.
How did that go
Did u?
@Donald Hicks who are youㅊㅅㅇㄱㅈㄱㄷ슥ㅈㄱㅅㄱㅈㄷㅅㄷㅅㄷㄱㄷㄱ
What a wonderful video. Thank you I learned more and it sparked more interest.
Amazing work ...
That was awesome, I love how into it the speaker is. :] He really loves his job.
Rivers, Waterfalls, Hot Springs, Volcanoes. Looks Like The Deep Sea Bottom Is As Enticing As The Dry Land. And With Its' Own Species Of Life Too. I Will Need To Watch This Many Times!!
Mindblowing.
he's a legend

Hi Thank you very much your show was very good.
Best channel ever.
i don't like reading books, but i love learning new things. Thank you TED-ED for giving all of us the opportunities to expand our knowledge in the easiest and most effective way possible.
what did you learn in last 9 years?
This has officialy blown my mind
Que hermoso video y tiene tanta razón. El mar sigue sin ser explorado. Wow i love this video fron start to end. Please never stop searching the oceans. Thanks for give to my eyes new perspectives!
Diversity of nature inclusive of the deep ocean lends us and our nation a unique diversity. Nature is always magnanimous and enriching.
Great work, thank you sir
Finally what something I was really looking by ted
This is a great opener for aquaman’s movie
That was awesome.
we know more about space than we do of our own ocean! Thats crazy!
I'd like to just say that this speaker is very important. I already have an interest in the deep. Listening to him speak just confirms I've made the right choice. People like this are really great for educational seminars. I will be going to more thanks to this video so THANK YOU VERY MUCH. 😏..❤✌✊🏾
Would love to hear what he has to say about the role oceans play in climate, something still not largely known.
this is awesome!
Brilliant talk!
One word.....WOW!
Wonderful presentation!
Excellent, should’ve been much longer
a fantastic video,
this was awesome to listen to and to watch thx alot
awesssssome, thanks
This guy is great
that's why in spongebob they have a beach at the bottom of the sea.. took the scientist that long to find bikini bottom
Shae Taylor lmao
@Alexander Supertramp you realize that you are three years late, right?
Took them two and a half hours of descent 2 get there after the 30-minute episode is already over shaking my head
First numberphile now this, why are all these amazing channels popping up during my exam year?
That was pretty cool.
Satellites and probes have given us amazing images of the universe. In essence... that is incredibly far. But yet, the deepest parts of our own world have mostly been untouched, unexplored or never seen by human eyes.... and that is just under our feet....... Undeniably, it is litteraly another world.
These videos make me want to be a deep ocean explorer.
so fascinating
That under water river stuff was the coolest part I think, also the waves in the sea bed.
your name is matt
Simply amazing!
The ocean has fascinated me, and I've always wanted to go in one of those small submarines with 1 or 2 other marine biologists, and go to the very depths of the ocean, and explore more of the ocean :)
Cheepcheepdude123 so your a marine biologist?
Excellent!
Very educational.
This guy is so cool man
Cool, cool stuff
I love it absolutely amazing and beautiful thank u for all ur hard work to being it to us so awesome
This is amazing!
Well done!
thank you
"As above so below"
This is amazing!!!!
Absolutely mind-blowing!
Thank you so much for this short introduction to a massive mind opening.
I wish you rainbows.
There is intelligent life in those oceans.
They think, speak a language, have family units, feelings, emotions..and some can outlive humans by a long shot. One fish was estimated at between 350-500 yrs old at the time of its capture. The same fish is believed not to have evolved in any sense since the beginning of its time in the ocean. It doesn't have to. It's perfect.
Nice presentation...who knows what will be found in our lifetimes...Personally I am interested in those ancient civilizations that lurk under the seas that were covered up after the last ice age melt...Cambay...Doggerland...Yonagumi...Atlit-Yam Haifa, I think they are only the tip on the proverbial iceberg..
don't know the rest but doggerland was just a piece of land, with same people as in other parts of Europe at that time.
USS Trapang...71 sub incident, what you are looking for with pictures.
Yes; the oceans hide everything. It's called LAND; MORE LAND!
!awesome!
Very good presentation, thank you for your information.
what a damn amazing video!!!!
Fantastic 👏
I like that this had captions, I want to see that more it helps me.
May the algorithm be with you
Love it!
Totally amazing !
Awsome!! I always realize were on such a fine line. Very well presented mr.
so humble of him, speaks of himself like he is nothing!
Like the video, thanks.
Awesome, there is water and fire under water.
All the good things are underwater...
Excelente°°°
hey David! go explore now! and bring us some cool stuff
I completely agree! I get this stupified smile fixed on my face everytime I watch anything he's done! ;^)
Got to catch them all
This is so cool. I actually made a highDEA about this a while ago. Talking about the world beneath our feet. While we're so obsessed with outer space and other universes with extra terrestrial life (which is totally understandable, I'm obsessed too) But what if right now as we speak there's this other worldly "universe" going on beneath our feet. Filled with all kinds of creatures we couldn't even imagine, and maybe all the stuff we think is made up, could be real, like Mermaids, Megaladons...
