This week we’re going to look at a funky groove that’s going to help out with many aspects of your bass playing. We’re going to work on your rhythm and how to develop subdivision accuracy, we’re going to focus on your fingerpicking and raking, and we’re even going to add a few little hammer ons into the mix.
The riff is taken from the upcoming Groove Trainer Volume 2 course over at Talkingbass.

Ive been watching Marks lessons for about a month now. My playing and understanding has improved so much its unreal. Best teacher online by a million miles ❤
Excelent lesson, excelent teacher. You great, Mark and thanx a lot!
Another superbly clear explanation Mark. Syncopated lines are the bane of my life!! P.S. Good to see one of your Fenders doing something!
Uh niiiiice. Top teacher 🎸❤️
Thanks Marc 🎸🎶🎵
Wow, that is some growly tone! NIce bass
Man, Mark…thank for what you do. I love these little groove lessons.
A good groove nicely broken down. Thanks.
Nice tutotial, thanks Mark. And somehow timed perfectly, I've been looking for something to up my skills. I can kind of play the first bar, badly, so there's plenty to practice just in this little riff. Your fundamentals course got me started on the bass, when I feel I've done enough practice to justify another full course (bass is a middle-aged hobby I've picked up, so practice time is a struggle) I'll definitely look at your groove trainers.
Thanks Marc
Great lesson Mark. Really challenging but the groove is awesome.
Thanks!!!.Great lesson to lear groove and teach my ring finger to play bass.
Liked table tab sheets music Am, Bm, Dsus 4 and Bmaj7 learning how to improve your skills and hand techniques .
I think this is a FANTASTIC Tutorial M .
It helps me explain all the "Vagueries" that I admit i give out calling "Ghost notes and groove" which isnt good enough. you have certainly improved my teaching technique!! good man!! hope this dosent involve an invoice. I have sent lots of guys to seek you out. Thanks man!
Thx 🙏🏻, so much! ♾ d ✨🤙🏻
Now that’s a bass lesson
Hit the likes button everyone
Working through the Groove Trainer course which is great! As is that bass - 70's?
Thanks a lot. Glad you like the course. The bass is a 1967 Fender Jazz
Ah yes, counting! It's so difficult to tap my foot, count the sixteenth notes (one-e-and-a-two-e...) AND THEN clap the notes to be played! Practice is needed I guess. Do you have a course of graded lessons? Great explanation 🙂
💙👊😎
Hi Mark, how would you say the difficulty of groove trainer 1 and 2 compare to the difficulties of the “25 bass groove challenge” on your site? In other words, does the difficulty of groove trainer 2 start around the 8th groove, 11th groove, etc… from the list of 25?
Fortunately for me, I can do this. Now I want finger funk 16th ghosted note grooves. Where is that course
Oooh wee
Would it be easier to keep timing If one don't change counting from sixteenth to eitghts?
Is there anywhere where we can hear you playing solo or in a band? I know you play a bit in the Talking Bass videos, but is there any other footage of you jamming or anything?
I just wanted to hear you playing solo in particular. I'm sure it will blow my mind. Ok, maybe that's enough flattery from me for now, lol
There’s a ton of me solo playing here on the channel. This is one in particular: ruclips.net/video/RRpRUuMDikQ/видео.html
@@talkingbasslessons Sounds really good. Thanks
@@RobertWadlow292 As for band stuff, I've done literally thousands of gigs over the last 30 years but it's only recently that everyone video records everything. Most of my career has been as a journeyman in theatre shows, cruise gigs, sideman work. Whatever pays the bills. I sometimes stumble upon videos of me playing online but I very rarely video the stuff myself. It's bad etiquette to start recording an act while backing them. To be honest I've had little time for gigging since Talkingbass became a 24/7 job. My gigging chops are rusty to say the least!
@@talkingbasslessons lol I bet your rust is like my chrome!

Is that a new jazz bass? 🤔
Christmas present!!
I think he showed it off during a live hangout one Saturday a few months ago. Boy, does it sound good!
Had it a few years. It’s a ‘67 jazz.
This high contrast white background totally hurts the eye, please do something about it !
