Ah man, you neglected the story that goes with the Edelweiss. The story goes that in European villages near the mountains I'd assume, if a guy liked a girl and wanted to win her heart, he'd go and get her an edelweiss to show his love and to express that he loved her dearly enough he'd climb mountains for her. Because the edelweiss grows above the tree line typically on the sides of mountains, it's fairly high up there and would be a challenge to acquire one - not as simple as say going to the florist and buying a flower, and definitely more meaningful.
Go buy flowers rose to a crazy girl for love if she didn't ask you if it is flowers she wants eat then you will explain to her for the stupidity if she didn't drive you and the flower. It happen to me.
@@rjpoetry3319 That's why it was done. A symbolic gesture of "I will climb mountains for your love", what other way to express a sincere commitment to a girl than fetching a flower that requires commitment to get to?
Important note: that famous Shakespeare quote is also meant as a dig to the rival Rose Theater of the time, who were widely known to have sewage problems
Hey, just a Quick Note. In Austria the cornflower is associated with the Nazis, as it was worn as a Symbol of the nsdap before the anexation by germany between 1933-1938. Therefore some people in Austria and germany might assume you want to associate yourself to these people by wearing a corn flower.
This was very informative and flower language is a new subject of interest for me now. Thank you, and on a lighter note, the boutonniere reminds me of a bro-oach, which is also fun to say.
Your boutonniere creates a nice transition between the tie and the pocket square, something to learn from. Though, when I go down this boutonniere route I'll start with something more basic as an edelweiss.
Love your channel. In packing to move I found a box with 13 men's books on dressing well---one of which is Dress and the Man by Alan Flusher. Thanks again for your program.
Interesting choice to emphasise how culture varies from place to place -- but I'm not sure what the culture of Mars thought of flowers prior to losing its ocean
I want Katt Williams, Ryan Reynolds, Two Chains, Neal degrass Tyson, Butterbean, uhh.. Danny Trejo... Green day, uhh.. Samuel L. Jackson, Fuffy, Joey Diaz, Snoop Dog and 50 cent on this show.
It’s funny how little romance movies haven’t used the symbolism of black flowers when a character wants to give their ex a mean gift. They are literally a death threat, come on Hollywood, do better

I think selling poppies at Fort Belvedere can seem a bit ignorant. The reason poppy boutonnières usually look unrealistic is because veterans make them in their spare time. The veteran unions sell them as a form of charity and the money goes to support veterans. I’d maybe reconsider selling it in your shop, or if you do, donate the proceeds to veteran foundations.
I enjoy having fresh cut flowers around my home. When I was in my 20s I likes to adorn my girlfriends with booties size corsages. I don't wear flowers. Historically this was like a lecture. Boring👎
You're not officially wearing edelweiss unless you picked it yourself near the tree line in the Harz Mountains. Otherwise you're a poser. Change my mind.

Wollte ich auch sagen, region und Kultur ist wichtig
The poppy, the edelweiss, and the white carnation were my first choices from Fort Belvedere. More to come as they are money well spent!

Fantastic! Thank you. My favorite flowers are the not so common ones like chicory, field scabious, Veronica etc but all are beautiful.
Loved this, as usual. I am a bit surprised there was no mention of the carnation's association with Mother's Day.
Preston I love all your flowers Preston i love your Suits & U R a really good Singer
Much appreciated! Thanks for your kind words. :)

Yea, the GG knew I wanted to see this subject explored even before I knew it myself! :)
Prince Bernhard Von Lippe-Biesterfeld ( grandfather of the current King Willem Alexander of Orange, the Netherlands) always wore a white carnation
8:00 I am now building a MIDI loop of Preston saying "homosexuality." It will be available for download soon.
? Why
Strange hobby
Another excellent and insightful video gentleman thank you!
Can you guys do a steamer trunk (travel trunk ) buy list. Looking around and it’s definetly of that old style
I’m thinking of wearing a boutonnière to Easter service with a white jacket. I’m not sure what will be best tho. I’m thinking pink carnation.
Your boutonniere creates a nice transition between the tie and the pocket square, something to learn from. Though, when I go down this boutonniere route I'll start with something more basic as an edelweiss.
Super informative!! Thank you for the education; much appreciated! Take it easy.
👄 thank you

As someone who legit loves the color yellow, now I'm questioning if my suitors actually like me... XD
Nice video, as usual. Just one correction: Edelweiss also grows in the Italian Alps area...

Know the intro song by heart now. Enjoy the channel.
White roses also denote loss and mourning.
Very informative and interesting video...thank you! :)
Please don't go pick Edelweisse today, they are quite endangered aswell, and you can buy bred ones if you like in flower shops.
Thank You,✨🌷🤍🩷🌷✨
Thanks for the video!
Love red carnations on black jackets; however, always scared of looking too much like Captain Peacock haha.
Red carnations are traditionally worn by social democrats and socialists.
you forgot to mention poison ivy. my favorite for breaking up.
Can you do the meaning behind the cherry blossom boutineer
Great video and very informative. Any chance of covering lapel pins in a future video?
Growing bachelor buttons, now to grow some these!
Yeah, now I know why they use "Edelweiss" as intro ost in The Man In The High Castle.
Clicked to see if green carnations would get a mention, was not disappointed 😁
Great video 👍🏽
Traveling men will understand the meaning behind wearing the forget-me-not. That story would have been great in this video as well.
Do they have azaleas?

I wouldn't say that we celebrate Remembrance Day, however, we do observe it in memory of the lives that were sacrificed.
"What, you egg?" He stabs him.
Question i know that black roses dont exist but if someone paints 1 black ands uses it does it have meaning???
Black roses sort of exist, technically _extremely_ dark red roses, and they symbolise death.
@@titaniumvulpes oh wow umm thanks man i didnt know that
In Canada, the red rose is a symbol of Trudeaumania in the 70s and 80s. Pierre Trudeau used to wear a real rose through his morning dress lapel hole.

Ahh the language of flowers... J.K. Rowling actually used flower language in the first book of Harry Potter in Snape's Potion Class :P
This man is secretly Kingsman secret service agent.

Prince Charles is probably not choosing fresh flowers any more....

Wrong on edelweiss. It also grows in the Balkans.

The English name for edelweiss is Ethelwhite.
She made artificial flowers.

The poppies that the Royal family wears are so hideous I can't believe someone so stylish as Prince Charles wears them.

the cornflower also is a symbol of the pan german nationalist movement in Austria

not sure if this is a /whoosh/ moment, but Edelweiß does not grow in the Harz. That's why it is called Alpen-Edelweiß
