Virtus is an awesome gun. I have 2 Virtus Uppers on Radian ADAC lowers. They are primarily 300BLKs, a 6.75in/Q-Half Nelson/Sig 12in SD Handguard Truck gun and 9in/Hyperion DT/16in Sig DMR SD Handguard Goto/Home defense but I have 12in & 16in 556 conversions for them. For me, the combination of the Radian Lowers and the SD handguards that tuck the best 300BLK suppressors on the market keep the Virtus well above the Spear LT.
We have very similar tastes. Mines almost identical to yours save a few accessories are different. I found a few of the LE model Virtus's on gunbroker with chrome line barrels I wanted. I was thinking of the PDQ lever, but I'm still trying to get Sig to sell me the M400/Spear ambi bolt catch. No luck so far. I'd recommend checking out the Parker Mountain Machine BCD for the MCX. That's what I went ahead and ordered for now. I went with the Virtus for the same reason. Thicker profile chrome lined barrel and potential flex issues on the Spear. Also a great deal on the Virtus instead of MSRP on the Spear. Maybe get a Spear lower down the road. Nice rifle man. Glad to see someone with a similar mindset on gear.
Thanks man, appreciate it. Yeah I tried finding an M400 ambi lower just to pull the bolt catch out. Also tried getting Sig to sell me the catch on its own, but they won’t budge. When I shoot out this barrel I’ll find a lightly used chrome-lined to replace it. PDQ has been fun but I think it’s run its course. Until I can find a reliable solution for ambi bolt catch I’m gonna swap back to the OEM.
The guy I've talked to several times at SIG has told me to call back every few months to keep checking on that ambi bolt catch. He said they'll eventually sell individual Spear parts but everything is allocated to new production rifles right now. Also, I've seen a couple vendors selling "contract" Spear LT chrome lined barrels. They're Virtus profile but apparently made for the MIL/LE model Spear LTs...just an FYI. Good luck.
Badass! Barrel port issue wasn't on you being a novice or not. That's on the shop who did the cut work for you.....they should've known better. They were way off 'trajectory' with that one. Sorry, couldn't resist.
What are you on about 😂 Everyone knows TA is one of the best smiths in industry. Besides, a smith will do what you ask….you act like they didn’t know what the port size was 😂
@@sheepdog916 So you say that TA is "one of the best smiths in the industry" AND in the very next sentence, you also say that a smith "will do whatever you ask". So, according to you, one of the best smiths in the industry will willingly make a modification, by customer request, that will prevent a rig from functioning normally....just to make a buck. I'll let you sit there and ponder the 'stoopidity' of what you just said. It's obvious that a rubber helmet is part of your everyday carry.
I will maintain that Trajectory Arms is one of the best smiths in the industry, and Alex has been amazing and has always done excellent work on my rifles. That said, I do wish he would have let me know that I'd need a new gas valve when I had him cut it down. Maybe I'll shoot him an email and recommend he let other MCX owners looking for a cut/thread that they'll need a new gas valve. But in the end I got to learn more about my weapon by figuring out what was wrong, how to fix it, and doing the work myself. Thanks for the comment!
@@billydanzzlol you actually just described EVERY industry in America. I have a Mcx-lt upper and the low setting on the gas port is super nice. I’m kinda curious what it would take to need the adverse setting. But I’m in California so the weather is nice and I can’t have suppressors so the gun doesn’t get super dirty
pretty cool idea with the ambi bolt catch, I find on rifles with them I really don't end up using them anyway due to muscle memory. if your ever plan on letting go of that 12' sig sd handguard let me know ;)
Thanks man! Yeah I've pretty much determined that for the sake of muscle memory, I'm switching back to the original bolt catch on the MCX since my Block II M4A1 just has a milspec lower. I try to keep the feel of both my 5.56 rifles the same (eg same LOP, same vertical foregrip, same light setup, same trigger) so the manual of arms should follow suit.
I'm thinking bout picking up a MW handguard for my virtus, did you have to modify the Arisaka MCX scout mount to fit MidWest or will I be good? Awesome setup BTW, the Virtus still f**ks all these years later.
Check out tacswap.com. There are tons for sale there. r/GunAccessoriesForSale on Reddit will also have lots of Virtus uppers priced between $900 & $1,300.
Nice, well thought out, setup 👍.
Thanks, appreciate it!

Try Devcon plastic steel epoxy two part system . Aslong as you let it set in and cure it should hold just fine.
Hell yes, this is the solution I’ve been looking for. Thank you so much!
Nice rifle. Just a heads up that most shot timers have a sensitivity setting that you can adjust so that picks up your suppressed shots.
I had no idea. Thanks man, I’ll check that out before my next range day.

The OWL is chunky lol. I liked it for the same reasons and disliked it for the same reasons lol

Love the MW rail. Nope, mount works great!
Thanks man! love my Virtus.
Great rifle 🤙
Oh man! Awesome firearm! I wish I had one but they rarely show up on gunbroker.
