Thanks for this video. I was stationed there from 1994 to 1997. I was there when it was closed down and we all moved out and went to Funari Barracks in Mannheim. I was part of 5th Signal Command.
I live in Worms since birth and i didn't know about this part and it's history. i guess we always drove around it. Thanks for sharing, learned something new!
That is true even with me, I visited some of those places when I lived there but was not aware of much of the history. I did much more research prior to my return some 45 years ago. This was a great place for traveling all over Europe.
for someone who was born and raised in worms, it's cool to see and hear stories like yours..since i was born in 93, a lot of things have changed in worms. the buildings that used to be the barracks were completely demolished (their overall conditition was pretty bad & i think asbestos was also a huge problem) and had been replaced by residential buildings. thanks for sharing your story and memories! PS: i was referring to the buildings that weren't shown in this video, think they were part of thomas jefferson village
I lived in Worms from 76 - 78 as a kid in Thomas Jefferson Village. This vid brough back some nice memories. I do think where you marked TJV is close but it isn't quite on the mark. It started in the very bottom of the left corner of the map you displayed, but most of it isn't visible.
In the building on the right coming in the gate, Mp's were in the building to the left, my room was in the 3rd (top) floor nearest the gate, now a hotel. We were near center on the Parade field. Late 1972 to 74. We were a mobile radio crew attached to Tascom Hq, we worked in 2 deuce and half trucks back to back next to the com center.
I arrived at Taukkunen Barracks June 1974 and worked in DCSLOG Comsec 5th signal command. First in the CG building, then across the street in Building 5816 1st floor. I enjoyed my time there and took advantage of all around Worms and Germany.
It is not far from Taukkunen barracks, you take the tunnel under the tracks which can be seen from barracks now a hotel. Once you go thru the tunnel it is on the left.
I was there the years 1970-1971 please do anyone remember the statue of 2 little boys facing each other look's to be holding a large tall basket of fish. I had my picture taken with 2 veiws in 1970.

Hi Mike, I liked your video about Worms,I lived there myself before I relocated to Great Britain
Lots of good memories
Thank you for this nice video Mr. Kurtzman. My father was also stationed at Taukkunen Barracks in the late 50's.
I was there 1991-93. I was an Army x-ray tech with the 13th Medical Detachment . We were deactivated in 1993. What a great community we were.
Thank you for sharing. I was at TCLSC from 83-87. Wonderful times. Lived in Burstadt.

Mike, I lived there 73-74, and am going back to visit June 2024. Do you have any idea how to get to TJV (Thomas Jefferson Village) housing? Thanks!
