    Top effort!
    Amazing what the Islands can put up with.
    You broke the boat, fixed it AND came home with dinner.
    Epic outing.
    I’ve yet to take the rod out on mine, but already broke the rudder pin once, learnt to keep a spare after that.
    Ain’t no fun steering with the paddle.

      Hobies actually come with spares inside the lid of the rear 8" hatch. The hatches actually have a notch for them under there for that reason.

    Great recovery mate, wiped out by a wave then falling off, and still caught the fish, what a legend👏👏

    With some years of boating, I strongly recommend ALWAYS head bow into your wave as the safest way to punch through with bar crossings great lesson for all of us thanks for showing what happened and recognising that it could have been a much worse outcome. Happy days and a bad day fishing beat a superb day at work!

      @hooked_on_adventure  3 года назад +1

      100% agree. I thought that I was clear of the wave zone.. just thankful that the kayak stood up to the beating and I was able to turn and punch through the 2nd wave!
      The sailing and fishing afterwards made up for the drama!

      @@hooked_on_adventure The same happened to me in the way out, I wasn't prepared to the surf yet, and that sudden wave wipe me out, lost lots of gear, my kayak rolled on the second wave too, at least I didn't lost my catch. Shit happens, no one is shit proof, and always can be worse. When you've stepped on the water, could possibly had lost your kayak.... oh man, great video, just reality.

    Here's an idea, let the sail fight the fish. Point down wind on a reach and bring in the sail but leave enough out to keep the fish behind the boat, you'll likely need to make some adjustments. It's a little awkward to fight a fish behind you but it works well to tire out that big fish. You'll need to rig a way to steer with your feet but that's not very hard to do.

    Good job bringing home the 🐟. Also get ya some clear silicone grease ( like plumbers use on faucet washers ). Put it on the white bead bearings and the pin your mast sits on. You won't believe how easy you can reef the sail . The beads will last alot longer too.
