Looks amazing! I love you additions. I just got the Bellrose 11X7 and cannot wait for Spring. I am in New England and it gets much colder up here. Thanks for the tips!! Enjoy!
Very good job on this video. We are also here in MD and its defiantly a cold winter. The river hasn't been froze over like this in years! I am contemplating build vs buying a kit and out of all the kits I think the Bellerose is the one I am leaning to. I've always been a little leery of the quality of kits. After living with yours for a while (wish you had it longer) are you still 100% happy with the quality? Really glad I found your channel and looking forward to seeing more of what you are up to.
Hey there, thanks for the kind words fellow Marylander! It's a cold and snowy one for sure...we got spoiled with a few years of mild winters didn't we? We really struggled with doing a full DIY vs. going with a kit, and I am glad we went with this kit. It's a newer line from Backyard Discovery, so I don't think anyone has had theirs for longer than a year or so. We are just DIYers, but I have seen people with more professional building experience talking about how it's a great design in the unofficial Backyard Discovery Greenhouse Owners Facebook group. No issues so far this winter, except of course our heating bill haha. But really, we only keep it in the low 40s, and I've got a few things growing in containers in there right now. I made a video about heat retention so far if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/59AG9It9PYI/видео.html I left this comment on the video to someone asking about daytime temps, I love tracking how warm it gets during the day!: "Believe it or not, we have had sunny days in the high 20s where it has broken 70 in the greenhouse for a few hours!! Most days, even overcast ones, it gets up into the 50s and 60s despite cold temps outside. As I write this, it's 28 degrees outside and very windy, and 46 degrees in the greenhouse at 9:30 AM. It usually starts rising around 10 AM and holds until about 2 PM."
Sorry if this comment goes through twice, I don't see the one I just typed up! This model does have some leakage on the lower part of the roof (back of the greenhouse), but the company is now sending out a kit to fix it with flashing tape that goes under the metal frame part. We need to do it, probably after all the snow melts. But honestly it's not even that bad, which is why we've put off the fix so long, haha.
They say to seal it to maintain the warranty, and it will definitely help prolong its life, too! I will probably re-seal only the exterior every year or two.
Oof, you got similar weather to us here in Maryland, then. Brutal during the build! We're in another period of about a month with no rain...glad we installed those barrels!
It took us about a week working on it part-time, though two of those days my husband worked on it for about 5 hours straight. Staining and organizing all of the pieces by step in advance definitely saved some time when we started bringing them outside!
I'd be curious to find someone who has owned this for a number of years. It's a nice design but they go out of their way to avoid mentioning what it is made of which should be the most important feature. When asked they will say "Chinese Cedar" which isn't related to Western red cedar, and is actually a fir for which you can expect limited lifespan outdoors. Might be best to buy this and and cover it with real cedar.
I saw the discussion you posted in the FB group about this before buying mine. In your post comments, someone stated they compared the Chinese cedar with domestic cedar and reported the cedar used by BYD was more dense than domestic and a better product for lasting longer. And that the Chinese cedar is frequently used in construction in Asia due to its durability. It smells 100% like cedar inside my greenhouse, and I'm planning to seal the outside yearly regardless of the material to help prolong its life. But since it's a new product, all of us early adopters are all kind of guinea pigs!!😂

Enjoy the Bellrose!! Sometimes I wish I went bigger!

Love it! When it rains does water come through the ceiling or roof seams?

This was so helpful, THANK YOU
Glad it was helpful!
Loving all your ideas for the greenhouse. I am looking to purchase the same one. Do you have to stain the greenhouse or did you just want to?

Enjoyed your video, just built the the 12*7 model .... I live at the beach in DE, definitely could relate to heat and drought during construction....
