- Stories that are finished that are by one writer and one artist, so you're not waiting around for it to be completed and the flow of the story isn't broken
Hey man, I like your style, your collection and your attitude. Keep it up, your channel is inspiring!
Thank you!! I really appreciate that !!!
Dept. H by Matt and Sharlene Kindt
Sin City by Frank Miller
The Sixth Gun by Cullen Bunn/Brian Hurtt
Fear Agent by Rick Remender (although artist can vary a bit)
Some of the books that I would put on that list too. Great video with some titles I have to check out!
Good choices!!
I always enjoy your wholesome recommendations! Especially your one and done’s and your non superhero recommendations. I love superhero comics but it’s always nice to hear about the not so known comics. Keep em comin Omnidog
Robb.M.A thanks! I’ll try to put out more of these!
Omnidog's Vault I just finished Y: The Last Man Vol. 1 and I loved it. That’s one I’ll be investing in 1 volume at a time. I do have the the hardcover Planetary Omni in my amazon shopping cart, just waiting for things to settle down to order it. I live in Germany so it’s a little hard to get good English comics anywhere around here unless I order from Amazon unfortunately
I really loved Revival too. A lot. I had happened to see a few reviews by people who didn’t like it but I have it a shot anyway and I loved it. It was magnificent!
It looks like you're going through my library and I love that! You should find a lot of interesting ideas for books!
@@OmnidogsVault so far so good! I’m a non-superhero reader but you have PLENTY of non superhero content and I already have a nice stack in my IST wishlist again. I read comics and novels and I got away from comics for about a year and now I’m back on the train. Comics is all I want to read right now.
@@wjamimah7772 awesome! I hope my library can help! Thanks for watching!
Omnidog you are such an awesome dude!
Thank you, amazing video. I am changing my buying list now. And I have read some books from your previous recommendations, your taste in comic books is damn good, so I will be looking for everything in this list.
Yea, I READ Nailbiter murder edition 1&,, locke and key and chew series. They are all brilliant, cant wait to catch up on the others! Thanks for recommending omnidog to do this video!
It was a great suggestion from you!! I hope you got some good ideas!
Always love your videos, and this one is no exception. I agree with many of your pics, and would love to add to your list. Given your criteria, I would also add...
Rachel Rising by Terry Moore - Terry should be in some kind of sequential art hall of fame somewhere, and this one is a good start if you are unfamiliar with his work. If you like this (and you will), you can also add Echo too for a little sci-fi twist. He is probably best known for Strangers in Paradise, but I don't think that is entirely finished yet, so doesn't make the list.
Girls by the Luna brothers - May be slightly tipping the ADULT side here for some drawn nudity, but if you are not easily offended, it's a good one. The story had me mesmerized with my first reading. If you like this one then read The Sword, also by the brothers (Joshua and Jonathon Luna).
Dear Creature by Jonathan Case - I scream about this one wherever I go, so just getting it out of the way. Brush up on your Shakespeare, read Dear Creature in Iambic pentameter, and be the envy of all your friends!!
Sin City by Frank Miller - You can easily teach an advanced art class just using these books, with a second extra credit class on use of negative space.
Xenozoic Tales by Mark Schultz - May be skirting the lines here, as the story may not be...technically finished... (possible new stories ahead, but it's been like 20 years now...) but it's too good not to list anyway.
And if you want to use "John Byrne's FF" as an example here, you can add about a 1000 more titles, such as Byrne's X-men, Lee and Ditko Spider-man, Miller's Daredevil, Simonson's Thor, and even the 100+ issue run for Lee and Kirby on the original FF books.
And thanks for the shout out about Revival and Nailbiter. They sound great, and I have added them both to my lists.
excellent choices, just the kind of input I like to get, thank you!!
I love the honesty when you say I still have not read these books yet... We are all humans after all :) backlog everyone
thanks! I appreciate that!!
Great video Jess! Can you think of enough to do a part 2? Thanks for all the content.
I think so, there have already been some great suggestions made!
You are right about that! Thanks again Omnidog!
Thanks for the recommendations!
Great video! On top of your great choices, I'd add League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Transmetropolitan, American Vampire, Promethea and Gideon Falls (which hadn't ended yet at the time of this video).
Oh yeah!! Agree completely! If I do a part two of this, which I should, i will credit you with those ideas!!
Has American Vampire ended?!?
@@OmnidogsVault It just ended with the American Vampire 1976 mini. It's coming out in hardcover next month.
@@batatinhacomics nice! I'll get that HC but I assume it will be in an omni in the near future!
@@OmnidogsVault yeah, it will probably be in an omnibus! But since I have all of them in standard hardcover (as you do as I just saw in the November collected editions video), I'll grab this new one too. Thanks for engaging in the comments!
Love the shirt, ✌️& ❤️
Thank you!!
Great video and recommendations as always!
Thank you Travis!!
Awesome video! Always love your recommendations!
Thanks Taylor!
Usagi Yojimbo will have the 8th Usagi Saga Volume released on 5/15/19 this upcoming Wednesday. After that you have to get Usagi Yojimbo tpb Mysteries Volume 32 available now. The last volume from Dark Horse is Usagi Yojimbo The Hidden tpb Volume 33 & will be available 6/26/19. Make sure you get the Double Volume Usagi Yojimbo Set collecting the first 7 volumes from Fantagraphics publishing. The IDW era of Usagi Yojimbo starts with its first issue on 6/26/19 and in color.
Extremity. Written and illustrated by Daniel Warren Johnson and colored by Mike Spicer. Complete story in 2 trade paperback volumes. Kinda like Mad Max of the skies with female lead protagonist. Violent, bad-ass, uplifting, and killer art.
Omnidog getting some sun...
Huge fan of Planetary. There was a long wait between issues towards the end but definitely worth it now that it's all finished and collected. Preacher, Scalped, Ex Machina, Usagi Yojimbo, and Sweet Tooth are all great too! Y the Last Man had a couple of different artists though so I'm not sure it fits the criteria. And I'm a huge fan of John Byrne and his runs on FF and Alpha Flight are some of his best comics work ever. I would definitely add Promethea to this list.
Smotlock planetary is good, I wouldn’t recommend sweet tooth, I thought it was boring and the ending was weak. I also read the first 26 issues of Preacher and found it cringy and childish. Just not for me.
@@jordanthomas4379 I didn't like the art of Sweet Tooth much, but I thought the ending was strong. Haha. I had more of a problem with the end of Watchmen than with Sweet Tooth, although I still think Watchmen is brilliant.
Promethea!! How could I forget that! Especially since it's being reprinted in deluxe editions!!
@@OmnidogsVault That JH Williams III art on Promethea is just brilliant (he's probably the best modern comic artist IMO) and it's probably Alan Moore's best comic book writing since his heyday in the 80's.
As an Italian i assure you that the pronunciation of burchielli is "boorkielly"
Revival is so excellent, great book
Glad to hear you agree! I'm due for a reread of that!
Solid vid Omnidog.
thank you my friend!!
Sweet Tooth has an arc with Matt Kindt on art
bummer
@@HarveyPekarsGhost Prevailent!! Prelavent!
Can we take a moment to appreciate the Hey Arnold shirt?
thank you dude!!
Hey Jess, I'm gonna see if u have any other Brian Wood reviews. I just got a great deal on all the tpbs for DMZ, Northlanders and Local. Did it blindly as I heard good things about Brian Woods. Are u a fan of his other works? And do u prefer Aaron's Punisher run over Ennis?
Brian Wood is an excellent writer but apparently not a very good person. I can't review his stuff anymore because of all the sexual harassment allegations. That said, I can recommend Northlanders, DMZ, Local, Sword Daughter and Black Road. They are all great. I also liked The Massive a lot but reviews on that were mixed. But I liked it. I like both writers of the Punisher! Don't make me choose lol!!
@@OmnidogsVault oh u know what, I think I do recall u mentioning something like that on one of ur videos. Ok, I totally get it. I think I lean towards seperating artform vs the person so I'll still try to enjoy the books even though the dude might be a POS. Thanks Jess!
@@omarreyesjr1920 yeah I still read and enjoy his books but don't review them because I don't want to upset people. But I still read him and like his books.
@@OmnidogsVault hey where is Part 2 of the Fantasy books?
@@omarreyesjr1920 haha Dude! It’s coming. I have a few left to read!
Next video please do your top 10 manga, I know it will be hard to narrow down for you.
Oh gosh, tough choices to be made!!
I scored FF omni’s by Byrne Vol 1 and 2 on FCBD for a combined total of $80! I still can’t believe it!
WOW, that is a major score!! Congrats!!
Lol from Giant Days to Punisher Max
The Goon, Hell yes!
Hey Jess, if it’s a blind buy which is better... Planetary by Ellis or Ex Machina by BKV?
hmmm... Planetary has some of the most fascinating and original thinking that goes into it. It's sci fi with a doctorate in Physics. I think Ex Machina is the better blind buy as it has excellent writing about a super hero turned politician and is more straightforward and easier to digest. If you ever want to read Planetary, I would start with another fantastic book, The Authority. Once you dig those concepts, you'll be ready and excited for Planetary! LMK what you decide!
@@OmnidogsVault im a big fan of Saga and Paper Girls. I dont think I’ve read any Ellis yet. I like reading very fluid stories which is something I look for in the 1st few issues. Awesome content and so much to watch. Thank you for what you do! Oh and yeah no Sprecher in my side of the woods bummer.
@@dadp12780 if you choose to read Ellis he's my favorite writer. I think I would read Authority first and then Planetary. Ask me questions about Ellis if you want! He's amazing
I gotta add 100 Bullets to that list although in issue 25 the issue featured a number of guest artists that did single page art. So I suppose you could say Eduardo Risso handled 99% of the art.
I agree, it was covered up on my shelf by a comic book that was displayed in front of it so I missed it
dope!
do you think ex machina will get an absolute? I missed the boat on so many vertigo titles in deluxe that I just want absolutes now
It's certainly possible, many other vertigo title have gotten absolutes. The omnibus is a beast, I don't blame you for wanting an absolute!
Omnidog's Vault I've never owned an omnibus, and I just started collecting absolutes. to me they are probably better to own for the large art and the spine will probably last longer since it isn't as thick.
@@josepholsen7450 good points. Pick an Absolute for a book that you love the art for, the large format is really worth it for that art
League of extraordinary gentlemen moore and o neil
oooo, good one
“he and or she”?
😂 haha
Loove the shirt
Thanks Flash!!
You forgot to add 100 bullets! Eduardo Risso did all the art for 100 issues!
Dammit!! It was covered up by something else! Good point!
@@OmnidogsVault but is it difficult to find (all volumes)? atleast in India it seems..
@@03appy yeah the deluxe editions are HTF but the trades are probably easier to get. Lots of the books I named have some book in the series that is HTF unfortunately
Thought Mockingbird by Chelsea Cain was a pretty bad book, probably would not recommend it to new readers.
Sorry dude.
no worries, we have different taste in books...
Cullen bunn is an awful writer in my experience.
You pulled a $2600 Usagi Yojimbo book that you knew wasn't even finished not to rub in anyone's face but to obviously show off...classy. Judging from your other videos I expected better from you but was proven wrong. You just lost a subscriber and you really should clear the toys from your book shelves...it is very unbecoming especially a guy your age.
I'm sorry you feel that way, that was a mistake on my part and I apologized for it.
@@BobbieYaga hahahahaha!!
Nothing wrong with keeping things that someone's interested in one's possession, the wrong thing is judging and mocking others for doing that.
