- Maria Pagès and Michael Flately in the fourth dance of the show. This is the only Firedance where the Flamenco dancer has the male leaad as partner in the 2nd part of the dance. All the other versions I've seen, this dance is a solo.
(As far as I know, this 1995 show has never been released on DVD. These clips are captured from my very tired VHS tape. I think they are worth sharing though, because, in my opinion, this Riverdance show with Michael Flately and Jean Butler is still the best of all the versions I've seen on tape, DVD and a live one in Chicago.)
The cultural fusion, the fierceness, the chemistry. This dance of these two incredible talents is just the best dance art. ❤️
Absolutely!!! Best dance duo!
I was 12 when the original Riverdance came out in 1995 came out and my family was obsessed with it, this one was my fav. I practiced for weeks until I leaned it on the guitar. Till' this day NOTHING has beaten the original 1995 performance of Riverdance
Well said man. This brings back memory for me too.
I was 3 when it came out haha! my family loved it too, I watched it every day. This was my favourite too.
You too?! I was like four or five and this sequence always had my full attention even then!
Except the original version of Riverdance in 1994… this entire show was sculpted around the first performance at the Eurovision the previous year…
Absolutly
Love the blending between the Irish and Spanish music in the dance
I strongly encourage everyone to watch the Riverdance Performance, seriously, at first I stubbornly refused to go when my parents ask me to, now I'm thankful that my parents pushed me to say yes, the whole show, it's like, whoa, it's beautiful, they dances with energy and passion, it's just wonderful
Riverdance original flatley on youtube
really wish they would bring this out on DVD. The other ones are good but nothing is better then this one!
Yeah I want them to put this version out on DVD too but I do not think it is going to happen.Michael Flatley is good and all, but I am not a fan of him. But have you seen the show recently? The cast that is touring right now is fantastic. I have seen the show 5 times now and the cast that is touring right now is my favorite. I have met two of the lead dancers, Jason O'neill and Bobby Hodges and they are both fantastic Irish dancers. I like them way more than Michael Flatley. Bobby Hodges was also in Lord of the Dance about 6 years ago, I think. I would like them to make a DVD either Jason or Bobby as the lead male lead dancer and there is a new dance in the show.
They had put it out on dvd, I remember watching my mom’s when I was younger. This performance is from the 10th anniversary one
@@HudjamMan I have the original show’s VHS still! Agreed, though, Michael Flatley had far too much of an ego on him while he was dancing, he thought he made the sun rise and set…
Nobody plays the guitar like the flamenco guitar players from Spain, even here he is performing an easy melody for him , Rafael Riqueni is one of the best .
This is for me the greatest flamenco dance/music marriage ever captured on film, absolutely breathtaking.
OMG I remember this dance so well i loved it one of my favs! I was 3 when i first watched the show and instantly loved it i would dance all the dances but this one i loved most of all. I fell in love with this dance so much in fact that my parents bought a small dance floor mat bought me tap shoes and my aunt made me the dress and i would dance in the middle of the living room floor four hours rewinding and playing the same song over and over. Omg such wonderful piece and extremely well executed brings back memories i wish i took up dancing when i was a child.
I saw this live and it still gives me chills. Not only are these two great dancers spot on w/technique but they dance from the INSIDE out and it projects beautifully through the screen! *sigh* Great show!
I watch this and two other videos once a year around this time, spring being around the corner, and just get swept up in the charge of this performance every time with multiple viewings. This is the only performance above all the other Riverdance numbers and of anything I've ever watched or maybe ever will. It's a masterpiece.
His sly wink at the 3.42 mark show how completely in control this man. An extraordinary dance. I always think the look on his face bordered on some kind of disgust, but older and more mature, I realise it is love.
Yeah, no, he was just a creep…
And *she* was the one in control, the whole time…
It's wonderful, I love it! It's just great to combine two completly different dances! It fits perfectly!
That wink makes me glad to be alive.
Celia Sinclair Winks are Smiles "Cousin"!! Cheers
For some reason, this one was always one of my favorites. It's so beautiful in its own way, and that's in a show full of amazing performances!
I must say, maria and Michael dance very well together!!! Well done!!
I lost count how many times I watched this video. It’s unforgettable!!!
I miss these days when Riverdance was new. I watched and watched so many times. I will never stop loving the show!
Spell binding, breath-taking, awesomely beautiful. Never get tired of this. Maria totally gives her all. Perfection. I will never tire of watching this dance.
Maria Pages, you are one of the most talented dancers on earth. I hope you enjoy seeing the beauty in this video that you gave to the world!
I was 5 when this came out...she was always my favorite to watch and even now she is still my favorite to watch...I wish I had a dvd of this!
I agree, Colly! I used to fast forward through this part, but now it's one of my favorite sections!
Yes at 3:44. It's why I will always love this performance. Anyone who can wink while dancing like that has my devotion.
thanks for this post I wore my tape so long ago, and while I liked the whole show, this one set, song, dance always moved me. Made me think of things to be and things that can be.
Again thanks
I love this dance and music!i bought it when it first came out onVHS and I still have it and watch it!
i loved thisshow and i loved this dance, used to watch it with my nana all the time. RIP Nana, love you x
@ChukchiCatori I"VE JUST SEEN THIS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE AND I'M IN LOVE WITH THE WAY SHE DANCES!!! I BLOODY RECKON!!! THIS IS THE BESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSST!
Fabulous dancing❤
Never would have thought to mix flamenco with Irish step dance. Interesting combo.
Did anyone else catch the wink he gave Maria? I love this show. x)
as a little Portuguese girl, I thought she was the strongest and most beautiful woman ever! Still love this all the time. Mest during the show
I agree!! I used to watch this almost every day as a kid! This and countess cathleene were my favorites!!
i love this dance i love her and michael i dont have words
Michael coming in at 3:30 looking like crazy Beethoven.
Jaime Chiarini Oh my god! I was thinking the same thing!
Обожаю эту пару ,их красоту,грацию, талант !Браво!🌹🌺⚘👏👏👏👍
My favorite version ♥ Thank you for putting it up! I remember watching this on VHS as a little kid and being captivated. This was the part I rewatched over and over again. Love the intensity of the dance. Little did I know then it was flamenco (being a clueless kid and all) but am happy to "re"-discover my love for flamenco in college. And years later, I still cannot get this out of my head 🥰 Maria Pages is the best~ 😍
wow...every other time I have seen this, Maria is solo
For me Maria Pagés stole the show. What a magnificent dancer.
I still have this VHS, used to play it over and over while doing freelance crap on my computer. Kept me going hour after hour.
Went to the american circus the other day and they done this sketch which was amazing and they were dancing along to different tunes and this song played and im sitting there next to my friend screaming RIVERDANCEEEEEEEE :) Love riverdance so much! Dont know whats more entertaining the music or the dancing
I don't even like dancing, tap least of all, but even I can't deny, this was a splendid masterpiece.
I grew up with this tape. Whenever my Mom asked if I wanted to watch Barney, I'd say no with a smile and pull this out. Then I'd fast-forward to this dance. =) Even back then I saw how beautiful the dancing was...
Grace. Beauty. Elegance. Breathtaking performance
(I have been obsessed with her dancing skills for 20+ years)
She schools Flatley
To do a show , with many different , cultured dances , takes talent . Not only , is Michael a Hell of a dancer . He's , one Hell of , a producer .
It was the best of all riverdances from then till now =)...no others can beat this period
I'm seeing the show live for the 3rd time with my mom next month.
Stunningly beautiful dancer. Love this :)
The best fire dance version in my opinion.
This is SO amazing on all aspects!
Malaran, I could not agree with you more - the 1995 original is THE Riverdance to me as well. I dearly wish they'd release it on DVD, as our vhs copy is getting a little threadbare too. Thank you so much for posting this!
There's just so much beauty and so much fun to it. And then the myths and the music just make it all explode. I wish I could learn it. I've never seen it live you're so lucky. :)
The 1995 live performance from the Point Theatre in Dublin was released......I have it - on VHS! Loooooove!
I never have seen this video, i thought she dances alone. Thank you
It's wonderful!!!....Amazing!!!...
I always got sad towards this part because it was close to the end of the tape lol
i remember coming home from school and watching this every friday night with popcorn or something and thinking "this is so freaking cool!"
Smokin'! Awesome.
@blindseer95 Wow, if you were born in 1995...I officially feel ancient! Thanks!
I am a straight woman but I cannot take my eye's off her she is amazing....Was Michael Flatley dancing with her?
Yes. He headlined the entire show 😉
Yep
fantastic!
А ведь танец исполнен с Майклом Флетли ещё таким молодым. Как классно, супер танец!!!
I remember my daughter was about 4 and she was throwing a tantrum and I looked at her and said, "Sweetie, why are you Riverdancing?" She stopped crying and said, "Mommy, what's Riverdancing?" So, I showed her this.
Simply great!
simply brilliant
makes me so excited to see the east flow with the west. the best of both worlds !!
MY FAVORITE OF ALL THE DANCES. HANDS DOWN. Love her :)
I never tire of this, she is wonderful and the music too...love it to death..shame about his hairdresser!!!
la versión original!! the most beautiful!!! the duet is awesome!! dos dioses bailando!!
No problem :) I saw the show live the other night, and they did this dance.
ha! same! I first watched it at my friends house and was totally blown away by it as soon as i got home i was screaming at my mum to buy the video lol
My dance instructor's name is Maria. She's Hispanic, and she could so rock this. She might even be as good as Pages.
the flamenco dancer is amazing
Shows how much you know.
This is Michael Flatley, it was the first Riverdance production, before Michael left and Colin replaced him.
just perfect
i've watched this part a dozen times and I always catch it yes i think he did. Was the wink just for the performance? we will never know.
Saw the show ! M A G I C !!!!
maralan51
u're right, it's the best Riverdance version ever been made! they should so do a DVD of it!!
I love her dress!!!! And he is soooo handsome! :)
yes indeed !!! nice moment of complicity !
To clarify, I've seen Maria Pages do this with the male lead and as a solo, the other dancer that took over from her in the other version (red shoes), she dances with three other men. This one's still one of my favourites.
My favorite one; I LOVE it.
María Pagés is a wonderful, amazing outstanding performer. Michael Flatley (NOT FLATELY LIKE THE DESCRIPTION) is one of the best dancers in history, but María has so much FIRE and musicality in everymove she makes that he (Flatley) seems almost small dancing next to her. This choreography is by far one of the most memorable from Riverdance because of María.
brilliant!
hahaha....he totally feels her up around the 4:40 mark!!!
Who sang the song "Lift the Wings" in the original production. It was an older lady, who sang it in a lower key. It was gorgeous and now I can't find her name. But great to see Firedance again!
@Nightmareb4Chrimbo
you are correct.. that was Michael Flatley... Colin Dunne did do a duet with Maria Pages, however it wasn't until just before the last number in the show Heartland
you to it is an awsome show i love it
no i think he did wink
The most beautiful and sexy dancing EVER.
love it so mach
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🔥🔥🔥
Rafael Riqueni making magic with his guitar
maaan i remember first watching this on tv (like pbs or something) when i was younger. i still get chills!! this is just beautiful!!
this was the only part of the show that i can forgive the closeup shots (usually i just want to see the whole body dancing. fred astaire had the right idea XD)
and is it just my eyesight acting up again or did he wink at her at 3:44 ?? XD
shani I love you
BRIEF COMMENT: IS THIS SHOW ON HIGH-DEF DVD? THIS SEEMS BLURRY TO ME. CAN ANYONE PLEASE ADVISE. I REMEMBER SEEING THIS ON PBS YEARS AGO, I HAVE THE NY SHOW ON DVD AS OF YEARS AGO.
definitely!
❤🎉😊
Janis I miss you
Nasıl dövmektir dansı...bayılırdım izlerken..
He DID wink! Good observation!
I feel bad for Michael getting outclassed so hard XD Also, I think the reason they changed her dance to just her own is bc she's a legend. A dude isn't needed.
lol true...very true. lol
I disagree. I think Mr. Flatley's Irish tap blended with Ms. Pages' flamenco perfectly.
Maria gives all the riverdance dancers a run for their money .
what do you call the clicky instrument that starts her off?
