Mumbai is upgrading for all upcoming new generation's & citizens for great upcoming 21st century future.
In San Francisco, they are currently destroying those same so-called sea front expressways due to visual, atmospheric, and even attractivity reasons. An attractive seaside, like what Marine Drive is already, is what will catch more potential investors due to the positive image that it gives to the city.
We are destroying all country in the name of so called development, which isn't in truth a development, but copying Burger Worship model or Mandi Worship model, confirming nothing than a lack of self confidence among Indians.
No, Mumbai doesn't have to look like a no-history or no-culture city like Dubai or Doha for being "developed" or "modern."
Only real estate and construction lobbies will prosper from the coming atrocities.
Even in practical terms, I don't understand the So'Bo people who encourage those projects by wanting to be in SUV Dreams. Those of them having an appartement in the seafront will be the one's losing at longer scale the value of their appartements. Who would like to live along an expressway ? The same thing happened in the West, which is currently going out of this kind "development." But we, in India, are reproducing errors of others instead of being a laboratory for future urbanism.
But I doubt that people flying from expressway areas (not valuable land for residential everywhere outside India) will happen in an Indian context. We can develop with money, but still, many of us are backward mentally.

Environment issues have always been there but it's all about balancing it with infrastructure development but some people use environment card just to cause unnecessary roadblocks for development work which is sad. Sometimes there is no single solution and so we have to find a middle ground and today with all modern technology and science it's absolutely possible.

While progress is commendable, there is a need for better adherence to traffic rules. India should consider making driving license exams more challenging and implementing mandatory medical and emergency training. Similar to acquiring advanced machinery for infrastructure, adopting strict traffic rules and examination standards from European and other Eastern nations is essential.
India has made licenses even easier to get 😂 now even private driving schools give a license 😂

You are destroying one existing for investing on a another non existing one which future is uncertain.
The marine ecosystem protection in this project seems *ucked up, litteraly perceptible when the BMC lady, when asked about it, focused on air and noise pollution rather than speaking frankly about what she was asked (marine wildlife).
Don't discredit the needs of those alternative roads, but there is clearly questionable choices about its track (Marine Drive ? The same area which have been inscribed on World Heritage by UNESCO ? Aren't the heritage preservation and regulation norms by UNESCO conflicting it (notably in term of Landscape conservation) ?) and the consequences on the wilderness areas of Bombay (Coral reefs, Mangroves (which seems to have been preserved to an extand according to the graphics in this video), Sea flats and marshes, etc.). Who will breath openly along a highway ? I don't know.

Public transport should be more important for the government, otherwise demand for new roads would be unending.
completely agree. I too am not in favor of digging up the city to keep providing new roads. rather bring in rules to control traffic by getting lesser private vehicles on the road or improve public transport. There should also be some rule for people to stop buying multiple vehicles. a household of 4 should have only one vehicle permit. an odd even policy too should be in place to reduce traffic rather then build new roads.
Yes, it seems that Indians are too much influenced by the "Amerika" model ! Which is one of the most criticised globally ! Bombay (and most other Indian cities, notably Madras or Bangalore) can turn into an L.A. !

@@TJSaw and you seem to be unaware of how excessive "development " has destroyed towns Are you aware of the landslides in Joshimath. Did you see what happened in Shimla last year during the rains ? Do you know why Joshimath was crumbling ? it was becs of the tunnels being bored thru the mountains to construct highways. These are the same level of intelligent engineers who are now constructing the coastal roads. Shimla has the same story. Rampant digging and constructions of hotels, roads to popularise it as a tourist destination. See what happened ? it all came crumbling down. and this was in the "mountains" - stable ground, rocks, soil ect. here we are dealing with the sea, marshland and islands connected with soil !! If only there were restrictions on the number of vehicles to be owned and some very strict traffic rules, we might not have to destroy our land at all. But greed and desire are far bigger than sensible solutions.
