- We make important decisions based on the information we read or hear. But when we are unable to distinguish between truth and mis/disinformation, it can cause confusion and outright frustration, leading us to question all sources of information including those that are legitimate. This is of particular concern during the General Election season.
In January 2024, the League of Women Voters of Illinois increased its efforts to address this issue which is widely viewed as a significant threat to the democratic processes and informed decision-making of the electorate.
At the September Keeping it Local we are pleased to have as our guest speakers Anne Sullivan and Barbara Laimins, co-chairs of the LWVIL Mis/DisInformation Task Force. They will share key components of a state-wide initiative to educate voters about the nature, the presence, and the dangers of mis/disinformation in the public sphere. You will be provided tips on how to identify misinformation and disinformation along with practical ways that you can fight back against this troubling trend in the political arena.
This topic is likely of interest to a broad swath of the electorate. Given that, feel free to forward this link to those you know.
