    I bought this pack late last year and my thoughts:
    • Amazing compartments
    • Great add-ons but they can get pricey (got most of them during the holiday sale of 2022)
    • Zippers/pulls are nice and not jangly like the AER Travel Pack 3
    • Love the option to configure the pack just how you want (photography, tech, hiking gear, etc.)
    • Gorgeous looking (my subjecive opinion)
    • Materials are very good quality
    • Love the hook/loop inside panel to attach pouches that have velcro
    • Fast shipping when you order anything from Boundary Supply
    - Can get really heavy if you pack it out with lots of gear (use the waist strap)
    - The load lifters are a joke (does not really help at all unless I got a defective unit)
    - The shoulder straps could be wider and more comfortable (the best shoulder strap/load lifter combo is the AER Travel Pack 3 or Shimoda Explore V2 system)
    - Adding the AUX compartment can be more refined: the bottom metal tab keeps slipping out of the hypalon loop (they need to fix this in version 3)
    - That magnetic laptop loop is a pain in the butt to use.
    - Needs an AirTag pocket
    - Needs another carry handle on the other side (water bottle side)
    - I wish it the front had a built in admin panel instead of that velcro dump pocket but that's why they want you to buy the AUX compartment which isn't bad but can really stick out too far back and you feel like you'll bump into something when turning around tight places.
    If some company (hint, hint) could merge the AER Travel Pack 3 (comfy straps) and the Errant Pro (tech compartments, modularity, etc) that would be my dream EDC bag.

      You are 100% correct about the load lifters and needing an air tag pocket. I ended up sticking it into the zipped compartment in the divider wall. Also I don't see a need for the magnetic strap for the laptop compartment and sometimes it gets in the way.

    • @Nomads.Nation

      @@aroubin good point on the magnetic strap - it's satisfying to use, but not really sure how necessary it is, especially if it has a tendency to get in the way

  • @askabl
    @askabl 6 месяцев назад +1

    Sorry, Aaron, but the statement "the side access isn't that great and the top is even worse" totally contradicts my experience. I have the divider floor installed, so when I open the side door, I have immediate access to everything in the middle and the bottom. Note that the side door is large and easy to open, far larger than say the one at the Wandrd Prvke (and compare the top access from the Prvke to this one - miles apart, I am ten times quicker with the errant). Getting things from the top is always a joy, because the divider holds it there, and you get to use the awesome magnet-buckles. And with the additional magnets installed in the flap, the fabric always folds into itself automagically. Aside from the Peak Design Backpacks, this is, to me, a backpack with the best accessibility I have seen (I own about 30 bags). The most important things go in the bottom, because the side lets you access them without taking the bag off. The rest goes in the top section. So sorry, my experience totally contradicts what you're saying. Maybe it's just an issue of having the divider floor installed or not. Because then things get messy and inaccessible. Overall, I love the looks and the feature-playground. I just can't decide whether the Peak Design Everyday 30l or this one (I own the black xpac version) is the best bag overall to me.

  • @askabl
    @askabl 6 месяцев назад +1

    Price for the bag just jumped up by 20 percent or so ... which makes an already extremely expensive bag so expensive, that it's a shame in my opinion. Just glad I bought it right before the price went up, but I feel sorry for everyone who is interested in getting one - the xpac version is now an unbelievable 455 Euros (shipping not included!!!). That is so extreme that I would not buy the bag now, although I absolutely love it.

    • @Nomads.Nation
      @Nomads.Nation  6 месяцев назад

      I get that the price is high, but these bags are not cheap to make, especially with such premium materials

  • @askabl
    @askabl 6 месяцев назад

    just a quick tip for owners: the quick-access pocket on the side houses a magnet dock for a keyring. I didn't have to buy it as an extra from Boundary Supply, because my Modern Dayfarer Sling already came with exactly the one listed on Boundary's website. BUT: do yourselves a favor and get the $18 divider floor. It segments the bag into 1/3 at the top, 2/3 at the bottom. Everything in the middle and bottom will be accessible easily through the side door, and stuff at the top should be stuff you don't need that of quick access to, because the only way to get it is to place the bag down and go in via the top.

    Awesome review!
    I have to completely disagree on the side access remark.
    While it might not be useful to you specifically, as a commuter i more often than not use side access (and i am nowhere near a photographer)
    Coats/jackets, gaming consoles, overear headphones, food, buying something and stashing it quickly into your pack...
    I could go on but you get the point. Non-photographers will get a ton of value with side access main compartments and i think it should be a standard feature like water resistance.
    A bag should never be put off your body in order to access your stuff in my opinion.
    I am elaborating this much because you make your own bag, so it's something to keep in mind.

    • @Nomads.Nation
      @Nomads.Nation  Год назад +2

      Completely agreed, I missed the mark on that one - side access as a city dweller is crucial and is one of the key indicators of a great urban bag. But having said that, it's not my favorite side access and still is designed in a way that MOST benefits photographers.

    Love my original Errant, and this improved almost every quirk/issue I have with the original. Boundary’ build quality is excellent, and the (over)engineering is smart and useful. I’m glad to see you mention the weight. Most reviewers either gloss over or don’t mention at all this thing is almost twice the weight of the original, or the Aer City. I agree it looks dope, and organization is next level, but the added weight was a deal breaker for me. Here’s hoping for maybe a Errant 2.0 eventually. Legit probably the best review of this bag though, well done.
    P.S. counter point to the side access. Not just for photogs man. That’s generally where my tech pouch and AirPods Max w/ Waterfield case sit, and it’s way easier to grab them out the side, than dig in the bottom of the original.

    Great review once again Aaron! I had passed on boundary supply earlier offerings but this one looks really nice and you are 100% right about the looks. Even before you mentioned the PRVKE, the entire design reminds me of a PRVKE taken to the next engineering level, but probably heaver and definitely more expensive. Great review! One thing I love about the side access pocket is that it allows you to bypass having to work the double-fidlock, as well as the deep-dark-mysterious-secrets-of-the-universe access of the top of the bag. The Prima System backpack (which this is as much of a sequel to as the original Errant) has similar access, but it's quite a bit smaller, so it isn't as useful. I keep my main compartment buckled about 90% of the time and use the side access instead, unless I need to really pack the bag out.

    Thanks for the review, as a Boundary Supply first "backpack" backer, my Prima System "zips" and "PU coating" started to fail. The backpack would leave flaking coat all over the floor, making it super frustrating when travel. It seems that the PU coating doesn't like our Asia climate and I was right when I'd look up into different reviews and marketplaces - the other bags had the same issue, zips and PU coat would fail after 2 years. Tried reaching out to them, the only reply I got from them was a "Sorry".
    If you're thinking to get this bag, please do take good care of the bag especially that PU coating. I was looking up for their updates if they had fix this problem because that backpack sure looks really good with that material, right now I have mixed feelings about it.

    Edit: sorry last paragraph should be “although these 4 packs are NOT exactly in the same category as Errant Pro review, they….”
    Hey Aaron,
    Happy NY to you and the team!
    Nice review on this pack. Not many out there that’s thorough and seeing you use it throughout the day outside.
    I think it’s priced too premium and if it was more between 250-300, it would sell off the charts.
    Also I agree that although it is well designed, good looking, and uses great materials, it comes at a cost of weight. If this thing was 1 lb. less, it would be a home run, along with easier access.
    I do carry like a mule but when I travel to/from airports to hotels to meetings, it does get to my shoulders and back, ahem….PD travel packs are the worst when it comes to a comfort pack. And I don’t prefer using waist straps.
    Some noteworthy packs that surprised me on comfort, looks, materials, organization, easy access, and good value for money are:
    1) Minaal Carry-on Backpack 3.0, got this on preorder for $239, no tax and free shipping; and
    2) Nya-Evo Fjord 36l that was on KS and delivered in Sep. for $209.00, no tax + $10 shipping. More for outdoors but they have nice range of exterior colors and contrast materials. Zippers are super smooth, comfortable pack, and nice rolltop design with top and bottom separation. Even better on the 60l but that’s a beast and heavy; and
    3) Heimplanet Transit Line Travel Pack 34l v2. It’s 2yrs old but for some reason never looked at it. Then BF came and they sold for $225, no tax + $25 shipping. I’m using it for commuting to/from work + travel and it’s lightweight and materials, zippers and organizations are great. And the straps are thin but very comfortable; and lastly
    4) AERSF Travel Pack 3. Not the X-pac material as I’m not digging that bright orange (not for everyone, either blinds you and/or grabs too much attention). Great materials, comfortable, good organization, and good value for money at $217 (during BF), $18 tax and free shipping.
    Sorry for the long rant but although these 4 packs are exactly in the same category as this Errant Pro review, tbey were worth mentioning because of the pros: 1) comfortable; 2) good looking packs; 3) great materials; 4) good organizations and/or access; and 5) good value for money when on sale
    Some considerations for the pack you’re working on!

    Hi Aaron, I bought boundary errant after seeing your video 2 years ago, I have to tell you about the problem with this bag, everything about this bag is top notch, but it is ruined by the fabric in the middle of the front, the middle Many of the fabrics are peeling off like low-grade leather. I hope you can emphasize this fabric in the video and reflect it with the original factory

  • @askabl
    @askabl 6 месяцев назад

    While I am absolutely in love with this backpack, I can't get over one major flaw: the flimsy bottom. The fabric might be water resistant, but it is thin - really thin - with no padding at all. Whatever you got in the main compartment will hit the ground with absolutely no protection. I don't see how Boundary Supply, with all their wizardry and attention to detail, could overlook this. Coming from a Peak Design Everyday Backpack, which has 360 degree padding, I constantly worry about the stuff at the bottom of my Errant Pro ...

    • @Nomads.Nation
      @Nomads.Nation  6 месяцев назад

      Well most traditional backpacks don’t have any type of substantial padding on the bottom and also more padding = more weight and this bag is already stupid heavy. Overall I def see your point, but it’s not a rule of thumb that backpacks should have this

    • @askabl
      @askabl 6 месяцев назад

      That's true. I still think that with everything going on on this backpack, a few extra grams for padding wouldn't matter. Although I do see why people want a light backpack - and you seem to put quite a lot of importance on that issue with your backpack project - I personally don't mind the weight. The Alpaka Elements Travel Backpack is heavy as well, and this is still my favorite in this category. Is the weight an issue of minimizing the load, or is it because of concern over airline restrictions?

    Did you get a chance to travel with it yet? Would it pass as a personal item? I know it is a couple of inches taller than 18 inches allowed by most US airlines, but it can probably be squished under the seat in front of you, if needed.

    In my opinion the original errant pack looked cool but was too small for most use cases. This pack on the other hand is so heavy empty I'm not sure my back could take carrying this around fully packed out... Also, on certain airlines where your backpack gets weighted at the gate and bags over 7 kg are forced checked this would be pretty bad if carrying camera gear. That'd be my main concerns with this bag. It does look cool though.
