My wife of 28 years died of cancer a while back.....I still drive by the house where we raised our kids....lived and loved.....and cry until I'm sick.....the past can never be recovered....but it can be recalled and hearts breaks over and over.....goodbye baby....see you soon.....

Met this beautiful quirky girl in art class in 10th grade. Fell so madly in love with her. Being a troubled teen I learned early on what love was but didn’t know what to do with it. She moved away on me and being 16 it seemed like the end of the world. I’m almost 30 still think about it. 13 years later we have an absolutely beautiful baby girl and I couldn’t be happier with our life together. I love my girls
I met this girl through a wrong number I had called. I was trying to call my buddy Bob and ended up talking to this girl. We talked for hours and days passed and I forgot to get that girls number. One day out of the blue the phone rang, it was the girl I had talked to for hours a few days ago. This time I was smart enough to get her number............That was 43 years ago, two children and five grand children and all because of a wrong number! I don't know if it was fate but I'm sure glad it happened and I love her more every day, she can bring sunshine on the gloomiest of days and the happiness she brings me is unbelievable.
I'm a black American man and a Army combat veteran and this song reminds me of a special woman I could talk to about anything and I lost contact with her an somehow she found me on Facebook and I was extremely warm hearted and it led to marriage. We are still together after all these years and she told me whenever she heard this song she cries and love me more! Awesome song
I am willing to bet that Deana Carter would have never imagined in her wildest dreams that people would still be loving this song more than 20 years later
"I still remember when 30 was old" hits differently when you're 30. When I first heard this song, my 30s seemed an eternity away...now it seems like I blinked and suddenly I'm in my 30s. Time does fly.
This was my sister's favorite song. I helped her "record" a video for this, in our front yard. It was on a shoulder camcorder, and absolutely rediculous. That house is gone, so is she. It hurts how fast things go. Appreciate what you have.
I lost my big sister too 😢 . We loved this song and took road trips /picnics and drank strawberry wine 🍷 so I always think of her now when I hear this. Sorry for your loss. 🤍🙏🏼
I now remember when 30 was young. -_- was introduced to this song and the love of my life in my early 20s but it was close to July and even if nothing else in the details rings true, it's still a love song my now husband and I slow danced to in our favorite old dive bar back home.
This song is one of those songs that's very simple on the surface but it always hits hard. A story almost all of us can relate to in some way is told here, being young and "in love", and the sense of loss that almost always follows it. I can still remember almost as if it were yesterday my first girlfriend and all the things we did even though it was almost 20 years ago.
This song makes me choke up. I'm a 44 year old man but this song takes me right back to being an awkward teenager, simpler times, and a family that was all still alive and well.
Like a line in the song says, "So bittersweet." Life is a great gift that God has given us, but there will always be some sadness along the way. Hope you are doing well 3 years after your comment.
Sweet song. No matter what has happened in my life, and I'm 73, I'll carry that first time until I draw my last breath. The innocence, the anticipation, the warm skin, the caressing, the wonder, the togetherness, the physical thrill, the oneness., the Romance, the richness of it all. Made me glad that I was alive. I miss Her.
I'm 23 and I can relate, my school was replaced by a police station, my favorite restaurant is a Verizon and all the playground equipment at the park has been replaced.
@@titaniusanglesmith9690I almost wish the line had been “when I had my innocence” cause for so many of us it was when he HAD our innocence, not when we lost it. (:
I was fortunate to reconnect with my first love 30 years later. I never stopped thinking about him as he never stopped thinking about me. We married 16 years ago and still are happy we found each other again!

I have a friend who's on hospice. She had enough strength to sing this song, one of her favorites .So I came to see what she loves about the song very nice ..Thank You

Its 2023 and I still love this song. I am a guy and it still moves me! It speaks to both women and men today as well as yesterday! If someone should ask me what's my favorite country song ever, I would say "Strawberry Wine" without even thinking.
This song … my husband and I couldn’t get through the entire song after he picked me up after two months of detox and treatment…..we have been together since I was 14. 37 years later we are more in love than ever before. True love never ends♥️
I thought you were gonna say that you couldn't get through the song before he was using drugs again.... Lmao I'm an recovered alcoholic so i wouldn't be surprised
August 20, 2024 I’m 64 years young and every time I hear this song I go back to 1974-79… I see the faces of childhood friends and of course that sweet crush’s face … RIP Shane Patrick♥️♥️♥️
The Carter family is a national treasure, for sure. Carlene and Anita had great pipes. Deana does the family proud with this song- one of my favorites!
"I'm a #BLACK man, not that it STOPS anything, but it puts so much into PERSPECTIVE, bottom line this COUNTRY song touches my soul, all negative and stereotypes are irrelevant, this is a BEAUTIFUL song"
There is nothing that touches your soul more than the memory of you're first love. No amount of regret, forgiviness or closure can ever close the cut it leaves on you're heart. Years may pass but memories never fade.
I sang this song to my father while he was struggling to stay alive. He was battling cancer. Not long after I sang this to him and told him we wouldn't let anyone forget him he passed.
I remember going to high school with Laura Shaw. She's the brunette in the video. It was pretty cool having someone from our tiny town in a music video. Shes still beautiful to this day
my daughter is now 17. I was around 19ish when this came out. 45 now. Making strawberry jam and this song popped in my head. so bittersweet. ON the verge of tears remembering my youth and my mistakes. Of days long past... sigh
Oh yeh ! I have been in viet nam and prison, and sons of silence, I have turn a hard man with no feelings for other people,, but yes this song has tame me and teared my soul apart..Knotsin Y keep your daughter close talk to her, tell her your story..your past is just that ! it does not matter anymore..teach her how to make strawberry jam..
This was one of my father's favourite songs. Whenever I hear this play, I hear him singing softly along. I'll always cherish this song because of the memories it holds for me.
Hoping your relationship with you father allowed him to admit your chosen man into you your family...... rather than killing all the Tom Cats that came calling! smile
Is this song universal for anyone who went on summer vacation and you really started liking girls/boys (I’m a man and it was girls for me) and you find one and it makes that week special. And when you get older you realize those were the most care free and enjoyable learning experiences in life
I remember when I was around 6 my soon to be stepmom and I were driving to the wedding spot at Tahoe. I was nervous to let someone new into my life. This song came on in the car and we sang together. I knew as soon as the chorus hit for the final time that it would be alright. To this day my stepmom is one of the best friends I have. She taught me how to be a good person. When my wedding day comes I’m gonna drive up there with her and sing it again 😊
This song reminds me of being a young boy, I'm 55yrs years old now!!Couldn't even talk to a girl back then, I was so shy! Got 2 grown kids now! and still love this song!!
This came out when I was a teenager. Oh, wow. The memories! This was MY song when I was 17. That's when I met my first love. But then after sharing the summer together he had to leave for bootcamp :( He became a Marine and faded from my life, but not from my heart. Fate is a funny thing. An amazing thing actually :) 7 years later I ran across him on Facebook, found out he had just finished his 6 years with the Marines and was living back in the area. So I invited him over for the 4th of July, and he hasn't left my side since. The rest is history. It's been 9 years now since that 4th of July when he came back into my life. And now 5 years since the 4th of July when we said "I do" and I became his wife :) I remember when I would hear this song during those 7 years we were apart, and my thoughts ALWAYS went to him. The one who got away. Listening to it now I can't believe how things have ended up. I'm the luckiest girl in the world. Still love the song and the meaning behind it, but it doesn't make me sad anymore :) Couldn't be more grateful for the soulmate God made just for me.
Woahhhh, no way, 7 yrs apart and then he came back, woahhh this is great news, i mean i have a huge crush on this girl, and i reallly like her n all anyways but if u survived 7 yrs without him, i can suvive 4, honestly this is great, and im happy for u, (: if you can wait 7, i can wait 4. Anyways hooe all is well, if u can message me on here, id be happy to know how this happened,, im really curious
Not just 40. This is timeless. She told a story that is NOT ORIGINAL! That's the beauty of it. We have all been there on some level. And very honest and classy in her delivery.
I lost my beautiful son, Johnny at the age of 17 in 2005, this was one of favorite songs, sometimes I come here and listen to it, and I cry. My sweet baby boy, I still miss you every single day. ❤😢
I absolutely love this song. When it was released forever ago, I was a bartender in a small smoke filled honkey-tonk in Michigan that was loved by only locals. Strawberry Wine was put in our Jukebox one day and I just fell in love. Customers would come in and I would say "Hey! Have you heard Deana Carter's new song? Oh you haven't? Well by last call you will have all the words memorized!" LOL! Life was so much easier back then. 🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓
My oldest sons father is entering hospice.. We hadn't been together for yrs but always tried to stay close because of our son.. I'm heartbroken.. This was our song.. I pray he finds comfort. Love ya old man
After all these years, still love this song and wish I could go back in time to those innocent years when I was 16 and life was simple and just wonderful
My mom use to sing this weekly down at the Fort Worth Stockyards rodeo. She sang the national anthem and intermission shows. I still have vivid memories of going weekly to watch her when I was little, probably circa 2005. I continued to listen to this song growing up and still do weekly. I even had a dance with somebody I fell in love with to this song. It has multiple meanings for me.
This song reminds me of a property we had when I was a kid. Farm life, riding bikes through the old back dirt roads, the smell of the soul when the corn fields were being turned over.... That land is now lost and when I last drive by I couldn't believe.. it was all grown over. It's crazy how moments you don't put much thought into becomes the most cherished memories..
I won't lie. I live and raised my kids in Tofino. So. No snow plows. But barefoot all day and they were late for school a LOT picking berries on the way!!😂
I was 17, she was 14. It wasn't time and time created distance. 35 years and a whole lot of trauma later, and we've been married for ten years now. We may have missed the first half together, but we have the second half to share it with each other.
The taste of first love is so sweet. Cherish that memory. Don't go searching for it. Why screw up that magic? You won't like what you find. Leave the memory exactly where it sits, fondly within your thoughts.
Well said! First loves are special, and those memories should remain in your thoughts and in your heart. A bittersweet memory perhaps, something you can go back to and remember, and smile!
One of the best songs ever made. This song captures memories of love and youth like none other. Deserves to be in the hall of fame for all time greatest songs
This song reminds me so much of my ex-wife, she would play it constantly on all of our road trips. I made some mistakes and lost her. It's been 7 years and I still can't stop thinking about her. Every year on our anniversary I drive out to where we got married and listen to this song until I have no tears left to cry.
Sorry it's taken me a half a year to come across your message. Listen, it's fun becoming intimate with someone and falling in love. Humans were designed for one or multiple of these experiences in a life time. Quit blaming yourself for your mistakes mate, maybe you did make them. But they aren't who you are. And when your parents raised you as a baby and put love into you and watched you grow they didn't intend for you to hit a road block in your life and lose love and joy forever. Take some new road trips. Put yourself out there. You don't have to forget about your first marriage but mate, you gotta open your eyes and realize there's still lots out there for you to try to learn to know, become intimate and love again. Life SHOULD be about love. Regardless of any errors or mistakes you made, start fresh, don't look back, don't waste life. Good luck buddy, don't beat yourself up.
Silent, I met my first wife when I was 16, she was 15. Married when I was 18, her 17. Daughter born when I was 21, wife 20. Fantastic wife with a fantastic family. Several years later I began acting single. Lost my wife, my daughter and my wife's fantastic family. Coming up on 40 years since our divorce and I miss her dearly. I will add though, I have been fortunate enough to find the second love of my life. We have been married 20 years and I love her more each and every day!
Just one miraculousl heart-felt encounter left my spirit reeling forever. God's perfect timing is truly pure, undeniable, enduring, everlasting. unforgettable. 🕊
I have very vivid memories of riding the school bus at 8 years old and singing this song with my friends at the top of our lungs. 30 seemed so old then lol. I will always love this song.

This song makes me cry every single time I hear it. Ever since my mom passed away. I remember being a young kid and my mom cleaning the house jamming to music this one specifically… R.I.H Momma!!! 😭
Still in love with my first real girlfriend. Almost 15 years and 2 kids later it still feels like yesterday when I hear a song like this, bittersweet is no joke. A better song from a better time. Growing up isn't what it's made out to be that's for sure, if only I'd known, I would've smelled the roses a bit more.
My 11yr old daughter asked me, "Is wine only made with grapes?" And I answered, "No, you can actually make wine out of a lot of different fruit, like strawberries." (I was eating strawberries) Then this song came to mind and with it a flood of memories of times past. So I played it for my daughters and we had a nice talk about the lyrics and summer crushes. They're still too young to quite understand, so I drew a line between this and an episode of Bluey called Camping and everything fell into place. It's been decades since I've heard this song, but it's funny how a sound or smell can bring back a lot of fond memories. Of being young and just living in the moment.
*I never paid attention to country until one day my brother's friend introduced me to Tim McGraw - Don't take the girl AND this song one right after another. I was BLOWN AWAY. Country fan ever since. I like all kinds of music, but these were instant classics. I'll never forget !!*
That is the most amazing story, not just the story but the way you write it by how you say it. I'm in tears because that kind of love doesnt happen but by chance, fait, or destiny, if you will. We all want that so much that's what we all are seeking or hoping for right!?!!! I pray that everyone might, or could experience that in this world, or lifetime but then it wouldn't be considered such a beautiful thing if we all had that kind of love, then I think it would just be Heaven then, at that magical moment, right up into eternity.❤❤❤ Much love to you and yours, God bless❤
I'm born and raised in Germany. I remember that song playing at a country fair.i fell in love dancing with the pretty girl in the village. Now I live in California and I still remember that magic moment. Danke schoen!
I hadn't thought of this song in so many years but it brought back memories of me as a kid and mama driving around playing this with the windows down. Much simpler times.
My wife of 28 years died of cancer a while back.....I still drive by the house where we raised our kids....lived and loved.....and cry until I'm sick.....the past can never be recovered....but it can be recalled and hearts breaks over and over.....goodbye baby....see you soon.....

You fall into that kind of crazy love only once and usually when you are very young.
Usually, not always. Best things in life, are worth waiting for.
The worst is having that feeling for someone who doesn't feel the same
And you never forget
And most of the time we blow it because we are young and dumb

My thoughts exactly. Damn good memories, but unfortunately they are only that. Memories.
Marc O'Shea too bad my husband does not feel like you. He is trying to go back to his high school sweetheart. Lol. I give them a year tops!
Trudi, let him go. if hes that big a fool then hes not worth your time, or love. plenty of better men out there. We just need people to see us.
you cant ever go back! its not the same...

The lyrics, the scenery.. gives me an emotional nostalgic feeling. A tear drops from my left eye every time I hear this song.🥹
I hope this legit..

I’m 64 years young and every time I hear this song I go back to 1974-79…
I see the faces of childhood friends and of course that sweet crush’s face …

I think anyone can relate to this song black, white asian etc. 5his song makes you think back to your first love.
That's Beautiful!
There is nothing that touches your soul more than the memory of you're first love.
No amount of regret, forgiviness or closure can ever close the cut it leaves on you're heart.
Years may pass but memories never fade.
heaven burge God isn't that the truth ! 😢
This song triggers memories of my first love every time. That kind of love never leaves the memory.
There's only pale comparisons at most.
I sang this song to my father while he was struggling to stay alive. He was battling cancer. Not long after I sang this to him and told him we wouldn't let anyone forget him he passed.
You sang him a song about a teen girl getting laid for the first time
I love this song. One of my favorites ❤

This was one of my father's favourite songs. Whenever I hear this play, I hear him singing softly along. I'll always cherish this song because of the memories it holds for me.
Hoping your relationship with you father allowed him to admit your chosen man into you your family...... rather than killing all the Tom Cats that came calling! smile
That sounds really nice also you're so pretty. Best wishes to you and yours.
When my wedding day comes I’m gonna drive up there with her and sing it again 😊
so sweet... wish you guys all the best....

I play this song A MILLION TIMES when I'm happy, when I'm sad, whenever!!! Can't get enough of this song!!! Such a beautiful song!!
Why didn’t they get a blonde girl?
This song reminds me of being a young boy, I'm 55yrs years old now!!Couldn't even talk to a girl back then, I was so shy! Got 2 grown kids now! and still love this song!!
I know the displeasure of not being able to talk to girls. I was like that only a few years ago
The first time is just terrifying and yet somehow amazing, when she smiled and looked away... It's something ill never forget 😂😂
***** so true. A truly amazing story

Not just 40. This is timeless. She told a story that is NOT ORIGINAL! That's the beauty of it. We have all been there on some level. And very honest and classy in her delivery.

How are you doing today
I absolutely love this song. When it was released forever ago, I was a bartender in a small smoke filled honkey-tonk in Michigan that was loved by only locals. Strawberry Wine was put in our Jukebox one day and I just fell in love. Customers would come in and I would say "Hey! Have you heard Deana Carter's new song? Oh you haven't? Well by last call you will have all the words memorized!" LOL! Life was so much easier back then. 🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓
Depending on where in Michigan I may have been one of those patrons. Left fifteen years ago, but the memories will never leave me

Hello Lillian,How are you doing?
💯
Sure brings back memories times I thought I wouldn't survive 37 now and still feel the same
My mom use to sing this weekly down at the Fort Worth Stockyards rodeo. She sang the national anthem and intermission shows. I still have vivid memories of going weekly to watch her when I was little, probably circa 2005. I continued to listen to this song growing up and still do weekly. I even had a dance with somebody I fell in love with to this song. It has multiple meanings for me.
Of course we all love this song! It takes us all back to a better time! Or a simpler one.
This song hits me differently now that im 40. Brings so many memories of my teen year's that i miss so much.
Me too!! Bare feet on grampas farm!!
Silt in my toes..old cars in pastures left behind..farm boys' that helped me haul hay..feeding cattle at 4am..loved my grampas farm
That so is like my story !
My current wife and I met when she was three and I was seven.
Congratulations
Masterpiece
The taste of first love is so sweet. Cherish that memory. Don't go searching for it. Why screw up that magic? You won't like what you find. Leave the memory exactly where it sits, fondly within your thoughts.
Well said! First loves are special, and those memories should remain in your thoughts and in your heart. A bittersweet memory perhaps, something you can go back to and remember, and smile!
Yep. Right in the spank bank. 😆😆😆😆

One of the best songs ever made. This song captures memories of love and youth like none other. Deserves to be in the hall of fame for all time greatest songs
Incredible

LOVELY VOICE AND SONG ❤❤❤
This song makes me cry every single time I hear it. Ever since my mom passed away. I remember being a young kid and my mom cleaning the house jamming to music this one specifically… R.I.H Momma!!! 😭
Still in love with my first real girlfriend. Almost 15 years and 2 kids later it still feels like yesterday when I hear a song like this, bittersweet is no joke. A better song from a better time. Growing up isn't what it's made out to be that's for sure, if only I'd known, I would've smelled the roses a bit more.
But we humans are notoriously bad at recognizing what we have until it'd gone. Smell the roses now, eh? 'Cause one day you'll miss these too :)

Hello, how are you doing?
That is the most amazing story, not just the story but the way you write it by how you say it. I'm in tears because that kind of love doesnt happen but by chance, fait, or destiny, if you will. We all want that so much that's what we all are seeking or hoping for right!?!!! I pray that everyone might, or could experience that in this world, or lifetime but then it wouldn't be considered such a beautiful thing if we all had that kind of love, then I think it would just be Heaven then, at that magical moment, right up into eternity.❤❤❤
