This is by far the most common question on our channel: Are your speakers writing backwards? This video explains and here's a shortcut: ibm.biz/write-backwards
Imagine making explanatory videos about Machine Learning, Cloud Technologies, CI/CD, etc but learn what actually people want to know is "how IBM magic videos work", I find it hilarious. But I have to say IBM's videos are amazing
OMG, thanks!!!! I have no idea but I KNEW IT! Thanks for exposing the behind the scenes. Given that, I've met someone who served in the air force a zillion years ago and they really had to learn how to write backwards on glass displays.
Thank you so much for clarifying. My fiancée and I were having a huge argument over this. I have won and she has decided that she will now listen to what I have to say from hereon. Thank you so much again Jeff
Cesar, you are very kind to say so! I do mean it sincerely, that I would never have been able to do any of these without the team that I work with who do them impossible every time and make me look good … somehow 😊
wooooow. that trick was so simple. i thought you had some physics going on in the light board but you just flip the recorded lectures. who would have thought that :D.
The glass board has ultraviolet lights around the perimeter and a "talent" light strip on the presenter-side that illuminates them. You can adjust the brightness of either for brighter text / better illuminated presenter.
Hahaha, i cant believe that you make that video, i think that was the most common comment under the videos "OMG how did they do this?!" Everyday is a school day.
Exactly right! I was answering this question every week. Now I’ll let the video answer it for me. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video must be 10x that, right? 😊
But in recent videos, there are text / graphics (such as bulleted points or 2D co ordinate axis ) appears animated and the person speaking write next to these animated points which slides in from left to right on to the board. In addition to manually writing, how do these animated points or text or graphics appear on the glass?
Magic! 😂 We have a talented team that helps with this. Those animations are added after the video is recorded. We just have to rehearse in advance what will happen, when and where and then let the creative guys do their thing
I suppose you could flip the image in real time if your camera supported that but it wouldn't give you the ability to do some of the nice animations that we do in the post edit process
«wasn't that obvios already?» -- If it was so obvious they wouldn't have produced this video. But here arises another question - how that to you, smart guy, wasn't obvious that it wasn't (so) obvious since that the mighty smarty IBM had to make this video? Take into account - as an advice - that smart programmers (and else) are often quite clumsy about things that are obvious to others. It's about focus of mind, and getting it obvious could also indicate a narrowness (smart on secondary issues).
Maybe not? If you scan the comments, you'll find that it's asked several times a day. True confession from Dan Kehn: Before I joined this team, I wondered the same thing. ;-)
@@IBMTechnology I would put, on top of the description of every video, and also on a pinned comment: "click (this one) to learn how to write backwards in just few hours" (otherwise those asking "how do you..." are not going to click it) and "we'd appreciate just a like if you find this video useful" Nice to read comments, but too much of them are of void complimentary meaning.
I'm slightly disappointed, I'm left handed and I can write backwards fluently so I thought it was really cool that IBM had people doing that. It's kind of a useless talent but I still think it's really cool lol.
This is by far the most common question on our channel: Are your speakers writing backwards? This video explains and here's a shortcut: ibm.biz/write-backwards
thanks IBM
Now I can sleep peacefully
Sleep peacefully for two😂
same 😅
Hahaha finally!!
Finally explained, I'd always thought that IBM had incredible amount of talents on writing backwards.
I wish we did ... 😂
Not only do they can write backwards, they write backwards with their left hands lmao
Imagine making explanatory videos about Machine Learning, Cloud Technologies, CI/CD, etc but learn what actually people want to know is "how IBM magic videos work", I find it hilarious. But I have to say IBM's videos are amazing
LOL! This is so true but, hey, as long as people are learning, I’m happy 😊
HAHA!
Finally I have peace for the day. Thank you kind sir!
Ohhhhhh as a filmmaker, I'd been wondering about this!!!! Confirmed my suppositions! Thank you for sharing!
OMG, thanks!!!! I have no idea but I KNEW IT! Thanks for exposing the behind the scenes. Given that, I've met someone who served in the air force a zillion years ago and they really had to learn how to write backwards on glass displays.
I've been waiting for this one, thank you to all your hard work to people who make these videos!
This channel itself motivates me to join IBM some day. Hope there are more cool teams to work with.
Thank you so much for clarifying. My fiancée and I were having a huge argument over this. I have won and she has decided that she will now listen to what I have to say from hereon. Thank you so much again Jeff
This is exactly what I assumed it was, but I still find it really fascinating.
Jeff tremendous effort and tremendous team, but to be honest you are the soul of these videos, thanks for teaching us and contributing
Cesar, you are very kind to say so! I do mean it sincerely, that I would never have been able to do any of these without the team that I work with who do them impossible every time and make me look good … somehow 😊
Really outstanding work, congrats, always a pleasure to watch those videos with the lightboard-supported explanations.
I’m so glad you like them!
Very cool.. and simpler than I had thought.. thanks Jeff!
Finally!!! The most awaited!
Mystery revealed finally 🎉 thanks for the video
THANK YOU!!!! Was dying to figure out how you did this :)
Glad we could solve the mystery for you!
IBM tech videos are of super high quality in articulation of the subject... Unmatched in my view, The Best
Thanks for all the kind complements!
nice! And kudos to the whole team !
It truly is a team effort!
thanks for this!!! now i can learn in peace, without this ever getting to my head.
really love your video styles
Thanks so much!
that is genius, i have always wondered how you do this hehe, thanks for the brief explanation !!!
My life is complete now! Thanks!
Great work!
#ThankYou IBM for putting out #digestible snippets of infomation #💎
Great videos, keep going! Greetings from germany
Thanks for the link sending me here!
you spilled the tea.
😂
Wow finally😂😂 .After 11 months
More valuable and interesting than other IBM videos!))
Now, I no longer need to think about how the lightboard works in parallel with the subject provided.
I think about this one whenever watching 😆
knowing this, now i can finally rest in peace.
wooooow. that trick was so simple. i thought you had some physics going on in the light board but you just flip the recorded lectures. who would have thought that :D.
How about we just say it’s “magic” 😊
Thank you !!!
For IT professionals, this is a good subtle test to work out who is able to think of simple yet elegant solutions to a complex requirement 🤣
thanks for sharing
I can't believe this is the most asked question. I thought it was obvious that they had to flip the video.
It truly is. I get this question literally multiples every week
Hello, excellent video. One question: how did you light the acrylic? greetings
The glass board has ultraviolet lights around the perimeter and a "talent" light strip on the presenter-side that illuminates them. You can adjust the brightness of either for brighter text / better illuminated presenter.
thanks for answering. Is that pencil special to look like that in those lights?
It's a "neon" type dry erase marker. It has phosphorus in the ink and the ultraviolet light makes it glow.
Hahaha, i cant believe that you make that video, i think that was the most common comment under the videos "OMG how did they do this?!" Everyday is a school day.

@@jeffcrume Absolutely Jeff
Reflip! You got me.
Thanks for revealing, I was annoyed by the fact that I am not able to figure out how you guys write backwards 😂 I can sleep peacefully
Usually people fall asleep when I talk and now I can put them out by just explaining this. Awesome! 😂
When you talk facts go straight to the head.
I suspected some tricks like this because I noted all writers were left hand writers that of course it was not possible.
Yes, that was a dead giveaway 😊
That's sick
And I thought it was some Tony Stark level tech. Still worth the hype tho.
Let's pretend it is ... 😎
thats nice
Now I can finally rest in peace.
"No, we don't write backwards"
*WRITES BACKWARDS*
😊
THANK YOU, this has been bothering me. It's so simple and I feel dumb now 😅
COOL😎
when did IBM get so cool, no navy suits and red ties anymore :)
😂😂😂 I remember that IBM. That’s the one I hired into 41 years ago. Feels like 3 lifetimes ago. I’m happy for the change. 😊
IBM realeased this explanation video so people could see that regular ones are not witchcraft or magic.
And so that people wouldn’t try to burn me at the stake … 😂
OH YES !!
Ok. But how do you make words (and maybe drawings?) just appear without writing them?
Those are added in later in the post production process by one of our talented editors
This video ruined my dreams about writing backwards
Keep your dreams. I can barely write forwards but I'm sure that with practice, you'll be able to write any direction you like! 😊
But in recent videos, there are text / graphics (such as bulleted points or 2D co ordinate axis ) appears animated and the person speaking write next to these animated points which slides in from left to right on to the board. @@jeffcrume understood, that is well executed!
@@jeffcrume I thought so. but apparently it is well synchronised , well prepared. Awesome!.
I can sleep easy now
It is curious that people who are aware and interested in high technology think that you had to learn to write backwards.
If any of these people actually knew me, they would know it’s a minor miracle that I can write forwards … 😂
where can i buy this setup?
I would like lightboard, how can i get this
They are for sale in lots of places online. Do a bit of searching and I’m sure you’ll find one
I thought everyone who works in IBM has to know writing backwards and I'd have to learn it too when I join😂
😂
❤❤❤
Now I can die peacefully.
I'm just shocked seeing so many comments showing they had no idea how lightboard videos work.
I knew it !!!!!
Now I can rest !
Sweet dreams! 😴😂
yeah great
Is it possible, when it in live
I suppose you could flip the image in real time if your camera supported that but it wouldn't give you the ability to do some of the nice animations that we do in the post edit process
😢and now what? Should we get back to the first one and focus on the content ?😊
Now that the magic has been revealed, can it still be magic? I hope so ... 😊
😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

His quasi-rhetorical question was actually meant to bait guys like you into responding.... Shall we keep the chain going?
Imposter syndrome creeping up again

To my surprise, there's a video that explains it backwards! So Funny!
