Thank you - I had a problem with my mixer shower not getting hot enough, and the most common advice was to replace the mixer cartridge. However, the advice in this video, particularly about checking the temperature of the hot inlet and ignoring the temperature of any taps (due to different flow rates) made me investigate the boiler instead. Sure enough, it was a boiler fault covered by our insurance - shower now lovely and hot and no expense to us. Thank you again.
Thanks to this video I was able to replace my cartridge in our shower mixer tap no worries at all but grabbing a generic cartridge from the local hardware store. Had to fix it because tap was off but water would leak out from shower head. Job done, cheers!

Thank you - had low pressure from shower mixer tap - your point 4 made me swap an 8mm bore hose for an 11mm bore and problem solved. Didn't know hoses came with different bores!

(1)We have a low pressure gravity shower which performed miserably until we discovered the Mira Beat handset, just about their cheapest, about £20. This gives a very impressive jet spray at low pressure and (hard water area, about 4' head) is easily cleaned by rubbing the heel of your hand across the wee rubber jets now and again - dislodges the scale easily.
(2) Our ancient Mira 88 won't shut properly so I installed a £3 plastic 1/2" ball valve between the handset and the hose, works great and is easy to open and shut without disturbing the settings. (I did fit a replacement cartridge supplied by your good selves but I think it's beyond fixing.)

A very useful and informative video. My shower bar mixer issue matches closely with point 3 i.e. Shower temperature control has become stiff and tight. The temperature control rotates fine when the shower is on just cold water however, it becomes tight & stiff when hot & Cold water is on. Not sure if it will be fixed by greasing or the whole cartridge needs changing. Please suggest

How can I identify my thermostat cartridge without a manual/receipt, would there be serial numbers on it, as my plumber wants to take the whole unit out of wall with subsequent tile damage as he says impossible to identify.

I have an issue with a faulty diverter in an Ideal Standard Bath/Shower mixer unit (Academy) and I wondered how I get the top of the unit off from above (I don't want to remove the bath side panel as it's sealed with ceramic tiles and mastic).
Is there a conversion kit available as the best price I can see for a like-for-like replacement (E960190AA) is £142, plus VAT!!

I have a concealed Thermostatic Mixer Shower and it is very hot at the moment. The hot water flow from the tank is fine. When I shut the hot water flow, there is hardly any cold water. I have taken off the decorative cap on the spindle(handle) and tried calibrating, but no luck. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Great video. Thank you. Need help though.. Water is either very hot or cold, but can't get it warm. When I turn the faucet all the way open to hot it stays hot even if I move handle back to midway. If I turn faucet towards cold and almost close it, it gets cold. Stays cold unless I turn it fully to hot. Can't seem to find warm. I also hear a slight click as I turn to either extreme before the temp changes. Can I fix or should I just replace?

Hi, we have a leak in our shower somewhere causing damage to a nearby architrave. I really like your video and I have a question. If I shower in cold water there is no leak. If I use hot only, no leak. Is it possible the mix of the two causes the leak?

I am having a thermostatic mixer changed - I have a Megaflo high pressure system - and am trying to find one that will last - I am astonished to find that Grohe etc all now use chrome coated plastic or plastic for their valves and cartridges. I am assuming brass or metal is better - am I mistaken ?? Can anyone recommend a thermostatic mixer for its quality of build rather than its appearance - it would be much appreciated :)

Need help. Just replaced a valve on my mixer shower and now the temperature isn't right. The valve I have changed is not the temp valve but the one that allows the flow through to the shower head. This was done to stop the leak we had which is common and became annoying as its in our en-suite. This now has stopped but still having issues with temp. What could be the cause? Everything use to work (except the dripping issue) before I changed the valve. Thanks.
Hello we have a mixer tap for the shower but the lever is stuck & won't shut the water off. We think it has been turned too far is there any way we can fix this? We think it is a bensham exposed shower unit if this helps.

Legend. Was a kink in my shower tube restricting flow. A calpol dispenser shoved in and cleared the fault!
Hi I have a temperature problem with my Trevi shower. I have changed the cartridge and it still has the problem. There is plenty of water flowing however the on off (left side) when opening keeps going and the knob spins!
After dismantling the dual regulator shower body enough to take off the water on/off ring to try and replace/repair the handle that had been snapped off by previous owner, and then replacing ring and hot/cold tap the shower will no longer turn off. Hot/cold adjustment works fine but the only way to control the flow is via the isolation valves. Could you suggest any causes please.

Thank you for your very informative video. I have a different sort of problem with our Hansgrohe Croma shower mixer. All flows, temperatures and pressures in the rest of the house are great. However, the shower starts off at the expect flow and temperature, but after about one minute the shower flow drops to almost nothing. Any ideas?

Hi mate, I moved into the new Gleeson home in Knowsley with a thermal shower fitted by them that I paid extra. The thermal shower that started dripping after I moved in for less than two years. They refused to fix it. Do I need to replace the cartridge to stop the dripping? I just used it for less than two years. Do you think the builder used the poor quality of thermal shower so that it started dripping even in just less than two years time? If I need to replace the cartridge, can I get the universal one or I have to get the one from the manufacturer of such particular thermal shower? Thanks for helping!
a lot of these showers are made in China ,some are assembled over here but the component parts are made in China,,may be its time to replace with a quality shower .worth the extra cost Mira or similar IMO..
Any idea why my shower runs 45 seconds warm water and 10 seconds cold, its like clockwork, same pattern constantly at about 34 degrees celcius. Boiler kicks off for the 10 seconds or so of cold water. Is this likely a boiler issue or shower thermostatic valve issue? boiler is Baxi 105 HE

Excellent presentation. As far as tempering valves go, they are a legal requirement in many countries now and are a safety requirement in all new builds, and replacement hot water units.. And the quality of these valves has slipped badly in recent years with many failing just after warranty runs out. Funny that.
so, we had bad clogged pipes, i put pex in with hammer preventers. all was well for a month. now it slams inside the valve loudly providing only hot and cold, no mixing. i installed a new american standard cartridge but its the same. as a tile guy, im at a loss here :(

I took my cartridge out without isolating, just switching it off on the shower bar.
If the shower mixer isn't correctly controlling temperature (hard to have balance warm water, to cold ) and the interior of the mixer is new. What could be the issue?
Mixer Taps Shower head dripping - Ive watched your video on this and checked mine which is dripping. On changing the O rings on both ends of the shower hose the dripping is still happening - I’m presuming therefore that it will need a replacement hose, though should I be checking some other part before wasting money. Thanks in advance.
Hi it wont be the hose that's leaking it will be the shower valve itself! The hose just Carrie's the water from the valve to the shower head , to rule out it's not the hose, completely remove it from the shower valve & if it drops from the shower valve itself then it is the valve not the hose . If the valve doesnt leak at all then theres a possible leak in the hose itself, cheap fix .
What's worth mentioning is , if the shower valve is if an age it might not be worth throwing loads of money at it & putting it towards a new one with a decent warranty. These guys are a great help if you get stuck give them a call & they'll sort you out 👍

hmm, so in regards to my problem i think nr 3's the problem that im facing (the temperature regulator has deadlocked on me, so i can't regulate the temperature, meaning i get insanely hot showers)

Hi I have a mixer shower it was gravaty fed from tanks in loft .......we have had a boiler change and we are now combi so they cut the pipes in the loft ...........all water works fine .....if I use the shower now it works great for 30-40 seconds the it littrally stopped ...*1st time it stopped we blew a pipe......we fixed it .....we re tried the shower water stopped again .......anyone know why ???? I get asked to look at thermostatic shower mixers, and a lot of them have no identity, and they have been bought from places like wickes, and when you try a get parts for them, they are obsolete, what a waste of time and money, I try to get the people to use isolators and strainers, soft water to prevent scaling, but they are mainly concerned about looks rather than functionality, a bit short sighted. I use to work full time, in general hospitals for years, where things need to be reliable, used " Walker Crosweller ( Leonard brand ) " Meynell and Horne valves, good quality, but did not have soft water, so they usually scaled up, but you would have a job descaling them, when the bimetal spring was copper plated, so difficult to sort out. I never use the shower hose you exhibited,, I use hansgrohe Isiflex shower hose, or similar. they never seem to get kinked. I like electric thermostatic showers, no long wait for the temperature to be reached, unaffected by other tap users, less water wasted, including the, what was hot water in a dead leg to the shower. plus I have the mains water supply going through a DVA water softener, meaning no lime scale, no soap scum.

My master shower runs out of hot water after 5 minutes. No hot water at all. However, every other faucet and shower does not lose hot water. What could cause this problem?
My shower all of a sudden has a long delay from becoming hot or cold when changing from hot to cold vice versa any help would be appreciated it's driving me nuts it'll be too hot then I turn it down and the pressure drops but stays boiling hot then turns freezing cold then I turn it back to hot and gets boiling hot again almost instantly

Hi I have got a ideal blend shower valve with a very loose handle. How do I tighten the handle please.
Easy fix
Prise if the ceramic centre on the control handle carefully ,in a way you open a tin of paint ! Be mindful to out the plug in in case you drop anything.
Once that part is removed there is a nut with a nylon thread tighten that up with a socket set or adjustable spanner dont over tighten it. That should do the trick. If that doesnt do it it might be play in the cartridge itself ! It shouldn't need much tightening to be fair. Once you've done it , re fit the ceramic cover & your good to go 👍
Biggest problem I’m having wið my shower is when someone is running a tap downstairs it completely loses pressure and can even stop working mid-shower. It’s really annoying

My shower starts with a little bit cold water and then it goes hot and then boiling hot water, burned my skin several times
No mention of shower body orientation. Install upside down it will not work.

I have a Myra mixer shower and was running hot and cold, I was told by a British gas “ ENGINEER” it was the shower cartridge that needed replacing. Eventually I solved the problem myself , it was my faulty combi boiler needing a simple diaphragm replacing. AVOID BRITISH GAS who simply can’t be bothered.

Why can't you show the shower in place and then show how to dismantle it. The shower bits shown are alien to me, only the shower head is familiar. I wouldn't have a clue how to dismantle the mixer part to get to washers etc.
