It all sounds amazing. Unfortunately my travel days are over. But anyone who gets to join Angela in any of these places and learn from her will be so fortunate. I’ve taken her classes online and she’s wonderful. In person would be amazing!

Wonderful observations and tips Angela. I'm heading to Madeline Island for a Michael Solovyev workshop this summer and your advice is appreciated! Next time I'll sign up for one of yours ❤️

I would love to go to my birth and childhood state of Maine for the workshop in Bar Harbor. But, I don't have to travel to see you in Tucson where I have live for the past 26 years. Both would be perfect. How do I make it happen?

Oh, how to choose! You have two great options, and the workshops will actually be different in focus - Bar Harbor is going to be a landscape painting workshop with opportunities to paint en plein air, and Tucson is going to be focused on experimental watercolor - bringing in mixed media and working primarily abstractly. So that might clarify your decision...or leave you wanting both! You can visit the MISA website to find out more, here's the link to my workshop page there: www.madelineartschool.com/instructors/instructor-list/angela-fehr/

So basically you are doing urban sketching. I am been urban sketching for about 10 years. We have a symposium every year and this year we are going to Buenos Aires! Check it out.. I agree with your concepts. Sketching captures the feelings, visuals, smells, people, colors, etc. the memories are all in the sketch. I don’t agree about the idea of”failure” we can keep painting in our evolution!

I think "en plein air" is the broader term that would cover on-location painting whether rural or urban. It would be interesting to know if others see a distinction in terms beyond the type of scene being painted.
