I think this was an attempt at a scam, in other words they get the water company to damage the property and then try to strong arm them to pay so that the couple could get upgrades in the house for free. And since the company didn’t go for it and they covered their asses by one offering to install the warning device for FREE and by also trying to contact the residents on multiple occasions it ended up just being a wash for the water pumped for the company and a lot of water damage to the residents that they, themselves, have to fix
As a German, hearing about people having problems with loud neighbours, I'm gobsmacked. We have actual laws against noise pollution, people can go to prison in extreme circumstances.
Most places in the us have noise laws that are fines, outside of like 9am-8pm, that can be used in court to sue the person if it's a chronic issue. During the day hours it's more restrictive on what can be considered a noise complaint, as people work.
when I moved to germany I was super confused when ppl threatened to call police on my for drilling on a sunday. I thought I was being nice for doing work on sunday and not throughout the week so that noone would be bothered if they worked from home.... I was wrong...

Its like civil servants without the power of the police; but they probably will come instead of the police for just a nuisance. Best case they can warrent a penalty fee) to do something. They can only do something, if they themselves witness the noises. And probably even then they will only give out a warning. But most of the times the neighbors will probably just be quiet the couple of minutes when the police is there; and loud again as soon as the police is gone again. And call the police too often and you will probably get a warning not to bother them with something so unimportant.

My grandfather was severely hearing impaired, 5% hearing in one ear with a hearing aid, none in the other. He lived in an upstairs apartment and heavily padded his floors to not disturb his downstairs neighbors. It was a 2-story building so no upstairs neighbor. Two inches of padding, plus carpet, plus area rugs. This made an actual step up at doors. Common courtesy.
Meh when you live in an apartment some noise is to be expected, unless the apartment specifically offers sound proofing it should not be expected for tenants to do so

He also worked some odd hours at times and would be up between midnight and 4 am some nights. He could afford to live anywhere but stayed. In fact, he was such a good neighbor and tenant that keeping him there was a condition of sale of the building. He lived there for 50 years.
It would be nice of all tenants in Upper Apartments did this. I live in an apartment and the guy upstairs has children visiting from time to time mind you this is a one-bedroom apartment this is not the family unit the family unit is on the other side. Nothing like children running through the apartment bouncing off the furniture banging into walls things falling all the time from Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump it drives me nuts Also he has arguments with his girlfriends or his family or his friends whomever and I get to hear it because the walls are paper thin. The story about the queue: That’s actually a regular thing that happens. At least at Walt Disney World Orlando. If a ride has shut down for a period of time, they have a lot of fast passes to catch up on, so the regular queue would only be only allowed like one or two parties at a time. My family made friends. We did the exact same thing.
@Donny D I remember that some people with actual handicaps would offer themselves for a day at a park for family to use the handicap line. They get a free day at the park plus some money for it and the families would get the perks that families with handicaps get. Pretty sweet deal for both parties.

I used to live in a house where my next door neighbor had parties... Every night with hundreds of people. Cops never did anything because of some connection they had to that group of people. One day they had hundreds of people over and I could see them jumping to some song... 5 minutes later I see them all disappear as the floor gave out and they all fell into the basement. I wish I could say that was the end of the parties, but 2 months later after repairs they were at it again. We moved out, but I heard from another neighbor that their house finally caught fire and burned down a few weeks after we left. Our houses were so close our old place was basically a full loss. From what I heard, they have a new place in a new neighborhood, but outside the jurisdiction of the old police.
I wouldn’t be surprised if that guy was repeatedly told at the public gym to not to drop his fucking weights like some lug head when he’s done with his reps. So he bought a home gym so he could drop his weights all he wanted. And now he knows WHY you don’t drop your fucking weights!

I have never had a quiet or normal noise neighbor anytime I've rented where there's shared walls. I feel like those people don't exist. It's always over-the-top nuisance. i've moved 13 times in the last 8 years in two states

honestly. the house next to the one i live in blast music from time to time in the day, to the point we can hear it clearly from our side, lyrics included. usually they wait for when they think we're out (i'm often still home), but others they do it when they know we're both here. it gets annoying
I live on the top floor and my anxiety loves to taunt me with the fear of falling through the floor/ ceiling. I can't wrap my head around why someone would think that doing weights like that would be a good idea though, that's what gyms are for!

So we have an epidemic of loud neighbours in my apartment. We've been here coming up on 7 years and neighbours have moved in and out in that time frame... so we made up a game. Around this time, because we live near the shoreline of Lake Ontario, we heard a lot of firewords at all hours of many days near or completely irrelevant to holidays. We came up with a game of "Gun shot or fireworks." It was an amusing game so we decided to port it over to our other issue: "what are the neighbours doing?" The first set tapped with their feet, a lot. So they of course were professional salsa dancers. Then came the sex noises, the dancer was having an afair with their dance teacher! (Scandalous!!😲) There was a big argument where stuff was thrown aeound and there was a lot of sqearing. The man in the relationship even had a very loud, heated call talking about his lover and how his partner found out. Sonit was decided out of jealousy of his partner spending so much time with her dance instructoe that he would get her back by cheating with... HER SISTER! (Dundundun!!) hahaha. Currently, there is an entire child ay upstairs who do jumping jacks and have to run laps in their rooms while mommy and daddy got their rocks off, as a way to entertain and distract the kids... Anyway, yeah. It sucks having super disrespectful neighbours.
I live in a neighborhood where ppl just don't care about the law in their cars. Loud engines with no mufflers would speed by during all hours of the day. Not only do I have sensory issues, but I live directly next to a school, which has 2 areas across from each other so kids cross the street a lot. There have been multiple cases of kids getting hit by cars, one was dragged almost 2-3 blocks before falling off the car which sped off. I don't think they survived.
I live next to a defunct golf course that has been left wild. Every so often people play ‘gunshot or fireworks?’ out there. It’s especially frustrating because fireworks are banned in the city (have been for decades) and there’s usually a burn ban due to dry, drought conditions. That also doesn’t stop people from setting fires out there. Usually when it’s warm/hot out and probably not homeless folks trying to keep warm. I’m guessing it’s just bored teens? More than once the fire dept has had to put out grass fires that were set by people. They’ve all been put out relatively quickly, but geez, is it nerve-wracking considering the whole area is surrounded by houses and apartment complexes. I’m nervous that someone is going to set a fire that can’t be controlled in time or shoot through a house/apartment.
@@undeadprincess5726 I also have major hearing sensitivity, especially to firearms and fireworks. My parents keep ending up with jerk neighbors that use their yards as ranges. Sure, it's legal as long as the yard is large enough and they have good backstops. Do I care? NO! It would scare me and my pets and I hope the horses up the road don't get spooked by it and get hurt. I'm so glad to be out of there, now I just have to deal with a dog howling all day on the next road over because its jerk owners keep it locked outside.
I could have been in first OP's exact situation! The apartment I'm in is the very opposite of soundproof, and I also once had new neighbours who didn't speak French (I'm French Canadian) but spoke poor English. The couple had just moved in and they were SO LOUD. The guy had a habit of putting all his weight in his heel when he walked and he was a *heavy* guy. One day I saw the living room ceiling legit *BENDING* over and over as if he was swinging up and down on it. I got scared of him falling through just like in this story, so I went up and knocked at their door. He was wrapped in a towel from the waist and had nothing else on. He got mad at me for asking him to stop whatever he was doing because I didn't say please 😐. Thankfully that poor woman was pregnant and about to have the kid so they moved, most likely because they didn't want to raise a child in this rat hole.

For the queue story: As someone who worked for the same place: There are 3 phases that attractions have for lines. Phase 1 is that 1:4 ratio. Phase 2 is 1:7. And phase 3 is 1: 10. Each phase is dictated by crowd volume. If the paid line gets too long, you have to bump up a phase to flush it out to guarantee the wait isn’t more than 15 min because they paid. And when a ride gets ridiculously busy or breaks down and just started back up, it pushes things to the final phase. It sounds like the ratio grew while they were in line. Being the position where the paid line and the standby line merge is literally the WORST. You get yelled at so much and there’s nothing we can do about it. I did my best to keep a 60/40 ratio instead and it was the only way to make things slightly more balanced without impacting the paid line. Glad I’m not still dealing with that today. Regardless, it still sucks and that was a brilliant way of getting through.
And who thought a paid faster line would be a good idea in the first place? I can't imagine anyone in a regular line would have a good experience watching people with more money to spend constantly cutting in front of them. That just sounds like a horrible concept that would make people never want to come back.

Collapsed ceiling story: It really wouldn't have mattered if the building had been inspected after renovations. The building was designed as a residence, not a gym/weight room. That would have required much sturdier floor/ceiling joists to have been installed. While a certain amount of exercise equipment usage can be tolerated by normal joists, constantly dropping heavy weights exceeds what they are designed for. The inspection report is just salt in the already open wounds.

The Warden has... _500!_ And if that's not enough it can obliterate you with a sonic boom if you're far enough away from it! On Hard difficulty, it can kill you when you're wearing a full set of netherite. Just let that sink in. (Those are the instructions if you play Java, I don't know crap about Bedrock...) And the inverted commas shouldn't be in the chat, btw. And if you want to look for the Warden in Survival... I hope you're not afraid of the dark. And to top it off, it's not even worth killing! I don’t know how Disney does it, but Six Flags version of the fast line is more of a phantom line. You select on a device what ride you want and it starts a countdown from the current wait time of the main line. So the buyers still have to wait, but they could get food, go to the bathroom, or other things rather than be in line and it makes the ride lines appear shorter
Reminds me of my first apartment. These kids would literally run nonstop, from the front to the back, until 3am every single night. We had a newborn & she kept getting woken up. I knocked & asked if they'd make their kids sit still, at least at 11pm. She said it wasn't her kids, then 2 brats came running to the door, panting & sweaty. I leaned down to the sweatiest & said with a sweet, growling voice "Kids who run in upstairs apartments at night just might fall through the floor. Let's hope you land on the bed" and the mother looked at me horrified & shut the door. It didn't help. I had thoughts of burning the apartment building down. 😂😂
Making friends in line is great at theme parks, and a good way to help others in rides faster. Just try not to be mean to the rank and file theme park workers on your way. It's not our fault our bosses are godless capitalists.
I've heard and seen videos of, stupid people doing stupid things all my life. Like when I was a kid, a couple of older kids (teens) were rushed to the hospital for siphoning the greywater tank of an RV trying to steal gas, to the guy with a new RV that had a brand new technology (cruise control) and thought that he could just set it and go back and make dinner while the RV drove itself. The flooded house reminded me of these stories. Now, I've done more than my share of stupid over the years, but luckily, I've never been on this level of stupid... So far.
8:45 actually their plan is to discourage you from coming to the park because the math says it's better for business and the bottom line. However it's coincidentally also better for people who don't have the opportunity to come often and are going for special occasions. As regulars tend to not buy all the perks and have much more access to the park than they do. Edit: so, the cruelty is usually somewhat fair and equalizing when you consider everything.
Lol my dad once had his leg go through our roof and ceiling once when he was fixing some of the shingles on our old house. He said he hurt a lot due to the scraps and cuts he got on his leg and also from the awkward position (he was fine after awhile though). Story 1 reminds me of my friends current situation. They live on the second floor of an apartment and do their best to be quiet but if they make the slightest sound the crazy lady down stairs starts slamming on the ceiling with a broom. They've talked to the office (who keep ignoring them) and even tried talking to the crazy old bat but the guy who lives across from her, who is apparently her nephew, threatened them to leave her alone. The real problem comes in that their livelihood depends on one of them who works from home as a call center person or something. All calls are recorded and she could legit lose her job over this stupid crazy woman.
Its hearing stories like the first that made me paranoid when I lived in my apartment. I was on the second floor and practically tiptoed around my rooms. Every time I dropped something I winced, and waited a few seconds to see if anyone came to complain. I never played my music out loud, only ever using headphones. I didn't even turn the tv volume up very high because I didn't want to be a loud neighbor. anxiety is a hell of a thing lol
The guy buying the surround sound to play Barbie Girl for 10 hours reminded me of the guy who replaced his living room coffee table with a concert speaker when his neighbors refused to cut down the volume. The OP of that story proceeded to play things like sine, saw, and square waves in clashing chords, sermons of evangelical preachers (the asshole neighbors were fervent atheists), and various songs on repeat - the Washington Post march, the chicken dance, and (what always sets me off laughing thinking about it) the Captain Planet theme song.
I'm not sure but in some states u have to legally update your home to certain standards in form of utilities b4 selling a home. I guess the old home owners sold to some friends or without a home inspector.

We once had an upstairs neighbor who lifted weights. My wife finally called after a week, people from 2 buildings over had already complained, they lasted 2 weeks and the place took 2 months to fix.
Part of my porch rotted out to the extent that when I went to go open my storage unit off the porch, one leg punched straight through a wooden beam. I was able to catch myself by bracing myself on the back of a chair and by grabbing a doorknob so I didn't fall down to the next floor, but yeah. That woke me up pretty quick. Fortunately the property manager was super cool about it and had the whole porch replaced within 24 hours.

Here's the thing about noise and renting. Most cities and apartments have a noise nuisance law/ordinance. Most of the time noise during the day isn't an issue but noise at night is, for my city quiet hours is 10pm-6am Mon-Fri and 12m-6am Sat-Sun.
New fear unlocked!!! I live in a ground floor apartment that was very cheaply built. When we moved in there was no flooring, just plain cold concrete, one of the windows was put in upsidedown, the taps(faucets) were fitted backwards and the was gaps under the doors that lead outside. The place is full of mould and I'm now terrified that my neighbour or her kids could get hurt falling through my ceiling
For the first story, I would expect the weight rack probably fell alongside the neighbour or before him, considering the floor likely gave out under the heaviest weight first. That means he probably landed on top of the weights.

I've had a neighbour who complained about me walking in my apartment and using the toilet during the night. Luckily I didn't speak his language, had the sense of ignoring him when walking by and he dropped dead after a couple of years. Either that or he was shipped to a retirement home.
EVen if it happened as you say, with them mis-reading the markings, their absolute refusal to communicate, and confirm the situation, including IGNORING the person knocking on your door, is STILL ENTIRELY THEIR FAULT. It's danged RUDE, and they deserve the commuppance. Especially when you consider that this is the FIRST TIME, and they should be aware and paying attention, to make sure they get it it right for all future times. AND the boss went over it MULTIPLE TIMES in their initial meeting, PLUS offered to install the alarm FOR FREE, and they turned it down, because reasons. So, math or not, they had the responsibility to 1) communicate, and 2) PAY ATTENTION the first time, to confirm they had understood the math and markings properly. So, yeah, they ARE too stupid to work with, and I don't feel sorry for them, at all.

The Neighbor Fall Through My Ceiling story. I heard it not too long ago and called BS due to the whole falling through the ceiling with the whole bench press (for some reason it didn't have the part about him being gruesomely hurt) and the neighbor popped up again to bother OP rather quickly after their fall. I once had a temp. job to roof 1 house. I was told I needed to buy the shingles with my money. I was broke and called the owner explaining why. Turns out the guy above me was trying to pocket around $350. So the owner told him that he had to buy and deliver the materials. The whole time I'm sipping tea and chatting with the house owner and the daughters waiting for my boss to find/deliver the materials. Took him around 3 hours for some reason. I was on the clock the whole time.
I did the same thing when I was in the military. Lived in married quarters that were row-housing. My next door neighbour was military police and liked to party hearty all night long. One $1500 Stereo receiver (with speakers with 18 inch subs) later, and using the subs with an AC/DC song to knock crap off his walls during one of his "02:30/ we call the MP's 3 times, music back up 3 times displays of disrespect"...- and we settled that. As his place cleared out, we turned down the noise. Interesting that the MP's never showed up to ask us to "turn it down"... It was funny because the other units in the row-house asked "WTF was that? It shook the whole building" the next day and got a good laugh out of it. I guess I woke the entire street...

I did something in college similar to the ex-military playing Barbie Girl when my dorm neighbors wouldn't stop playing loud rap music when I was trying to sleep (Loud as in the stuff on my desk would rattle since it was against the shared wall oud). Walked to the school store, found a set of flat faced surround sound speakers. I could, and did, press them flat against the shared wall, and blasted a William Shatner playlist I found. Took a day before they got the hint. Which was good because if it went to day two, it was going to be Leonard Nemoy's Bilbo Baggins on loop.

I don't think the 2000 gallons in a 3000 gallon tank is an understandable mistake if they went over it 4 times AND called to confirm 4 times. The business did everything they could to clarify the order, but the customers knew less than the minimum required to manage their home, in spite of multiple attempts to educate them from the water company.
You don't need a fancy sound system to get the message across. One summer night, I was sleeping in an upstairs bedroom with the windows open. It overlooked my neighbor's back yard. They had brought out sofas and chairs and set up video projector to shine on the white wall of their house. At midnight, they started screening the Rocky Horror Picture Show, at full volume. I took my cheap AM/FM radio, tuned to the classical music station, aimed it out the window, and turned up the volume to full. Have you heard what full volume on a cheap radio does to classical music? They turned down their music.
Water story: all this mess could have been avoided if they allowed OP to install the *free* alarm system like they offered to do 🤷🏼♀️

I think this was an attempt at a scam, in other words they get the water company to damage the property and then try to strong arm them to pay so that the couple could get upgrades in the house for free. And since the company didn’t go for it and they covered their asses by one offering to install the warning device for FREE and by also trying to contact the residents on multiple occasions it ended up just being a wash for the water pumped for the company and a lot of water damage to the residents that they, themselves, have to fix

As a German, hearing about people having problems with loud neighbours, I'm gobsmacked. We have actual laws against noise pollution, people can go to prison in extreme circumstances.
Most places in the us have noise laws that are fines, outside of like 9am-8pm, that can be used in court to sue the person if it's a chronic issue.
During the day hours it's more restrictive on what can be considered a noise complaint, as people work.

They can only do something, if they themselves witness the noises. And probably even then they will only give out a warning. But most of the times the neighbors will probably just be quiet the couple of minutes when the police is there; and loud again as soon as the police is gone again.
And call the police too often and you will probably get a warning not to bother them with something so unimportant.
They really should’ve pressed for criminal charges that is criminal negligence that would’ve gotten a less observant person killed.

My grandfather was severely hearing impaired, 5% hearing in one ear with a hearing aid, none in the other. He lived in an upstairs apartment and heavily padded his floors to not disturb his downstairs neighbors. It was a 2-story building so no upstairs neighbor. Two inches of padding, plus carpet, plus area rugs. This made an actual step up at doors. Common courtesy.

He also worked some odd hours at times and would be up between midnight and 4 am some nights. He could afford to live anywhere but stayed. In fact, he was such a good neighbor and tenant that keeping him there was a condition of sale of the building. He lived there for 50 years.
It would be nice of all tenants in Upper Apartments did this. I live in an apartment and the guy upstairs has children visiting from time to time mind you this is a one-bedroom apartment this is not the family unit the family unit is on the other side. That’s actually a regular thing that happens. At least at Walt Disney World Orlando. If a ride has shut down for a period of time, they have a lot of fast passes to catch up on, so the regular queue would only be only allowed like one or two parties at a time.
My family made friends. We did the exact same thing.
Not just Disney parks too. Universal, Cedar Fair, & Six Flags all have similar systems (only, Disney's used to be free and on a time schedule).

I used to live in a house where my next door neighbor had parties... Every night with hundreds of people. Cops never did anything because of some connection they had to that group of people. One day they had hundreds of people over and I could see them jumping to some song... 5 minutes later I see them all disappear as the floor gave out and they all fell into the basement.
I wish I could say that was the end of the parties, but 2 months later after repairs they were at it again. We moved out, but I heard from another neighbor that their house finally caught fire and burned down a few weeks after we left. Our houses were so close our old place was basically a full loss.

So we have an epidemic of loud neighbours in my apartment. We've been here coming up on 7 years and neighbours have moved in and out in that time frame... so we made up a game. Around this time, because we live near the shoreline of Lake Ontario, we heard a lot of firewords at all hours of many days near or completely irrelevant to holidays. We came up with a game of "Gun shot or fireworks." It was an amusing game so we decided to port it over to our other issue: "what are the neighbours doing?" The first set tapped with their feet, a lot. So they of course were professional salsa dancers. Then came the sex noises, the dancer was having an afair with their dance teacher! (Scandalous!!😲) There was a big argument where stuff was thrown aeound and there was a lot of sqearing. The man in the relationship even had a very loud, heated call talking about his lover and how his partner found out. Sonit was decided out of jealousy of his partner spending so much time with her dance instructoe that he would get her back by cheating with... HER SISTER! (Dundundun!!) hahaha.
Currently, there is an entire child ay upstairs who do jumping jacks and have to run laps in their rooms while mommy and daddy got their rocks off, as a way to entertain and distract the kids...
Anyway, yeah. It sucks having super disrespectful neighbours.
I live in a neighborhood where ppl just don't care about the law in their cars. Loud engines with no mufflers would speed by during all hours of the day. Not only do I have sensory issues, but I live directly next to a school, which has 2 areas across from each other so kids cross the street a lot. There have been multiple cases of kids getting hit by cars, one was dragged almost 2-3 blocks before falling off the car which sped off. I don't think they survived.
I live next to a defunct golf course that has been left wild. Every so often people play ‘gunshot or fireworks?’ out there. It’s especially frustrating because fireworks are banned in the city (have been for decades) and there’s usually a burn ban due to dry, drought conditions.
That also doesn’t stop people from setting fires out there. Usually when it’s warm/hot out and probably not homeless folks trying to keep warm. I’m guessing it’s just bored teens?
More than once the fire dept has had to put out grass fires that were set by people.
They’ve all been put out relatively quickly, but geez, is it nerve-wracking considering the whole area is surrounded by houses and apartment complexes.
I’m nervous that someone is going to set a fire that can’t be controlled in time or shoot through a house/apartment.
@@undeadprincess5726 I also have major hearing sensitivity, especially to firearms and fireworks. My parents keep ending up with jerk neighbors that use their yards as ranges. Sure, it's legal as long as the yard is large enough and they have good backstops. Do I care? NO! It would scare me and my pets and I hope the horses up the road don't get spooked by it and get hurt. I'm so glad to be out of there, now I just have to deal with a dog howling all day on the next road over because its jerk owners keep it locked outside.
I could have been in first OP's exact situation! The apartment I'm in is the very opposite of soundproof, and I also once had new neighbours who didn't speak French (I'm French Canadian) but spoke poor English. The couple had just moved in and they were SO LOUD.
The guy had a habit of putting all his weight in his heel when he walked and he was a *heavy* guy. One day I saw the living room ceiling legit *BENDING* over and over as if he was swinging up and down on it. I got scared of him falling through just like in this story, so I went up and knocked at their door. He was wrapped in a towel from the waist and had nothing else on. He got mad at me for asking him to stop whatever he was doing because I didn't say please 😐. Thankfully that poor woman was pregnant and about to have the kid so they moved, most likely because they didn't want to raise a child in this rat hole.

For the queue story:
As someone who worked for the same place: There are 3 phases that attractions have for lines. Phase 1 is that 1:4 ratio. Phase 2 is 1:7. And phase 3 is 1: 10. Each phase is dictated by crowd volume. If the paid line gets too long, you have to bump up a phase to flush it out to guarantee the wait isn’t more than 15 min because they paid. And when a ride gets ridiculously busy or breaks down and just started back up, it pushes things to the final phase. It sounds like the ratio grew while they were in line. Being the position where the paid line and the standby line merge is literally the WORST. You get yelled at so much and there’s nothing we can do about it. I did my best to keep a 60/40 ratio instead and it was the only way to make things slightly more balanced without impacting the paid line. Glad I’m not still dealing with that today.
Regardless, it still sucks and that was a brilliant way of getting through.
And who thought a paid faster line would be a good idea in the first place? I can't imagine anyone in a regular line would have a good experience watching people with more money to spend constantly cutting in front of them. That just sounds like a horrible concept that would make people never want to come back.

Collapsed ceiling story: It really wouldn't have mattered if the building had been inspected after renovations. The building was designed as a residence, not a gym/weight room. That would have required much sturdier floor/ceiling joists to have been installed. While a certain amount of exercise equipment usage can be tolerated by normal joists, constantly dropping heavy weights exceeds what they are designed for. The inspection report is just salt in the already open wounds.

I don’t know how Disney does it, but Six Flags version of the fast line is more of a phantom line. You select on a device what ride you want and it starts a countdown from the current wait time of the main line. So the buyers still have to wait, but they could get food, go to the bathroom, or other things rather than be in line and it makes the ride lines appear shorter

Reminds me of my first apartment. These kids would literally run nonstop, from the front to the back, until 3am every single night. We had a newborn & she kept getting woken up. I knocked & asked if they'd make their kids sit still, at least at 11pm. She said it wasn't her kids, then 2 brats came running to the door, panting & sweaty.
I leaned down to the sweatiest & said with a sweet, growling voice "Kids who run in upstairs apartments at night just might fall through the floor. I've heard and seen videos of, stupid people doing stupid things all my life. Like when I was a kid, a couple of older kids (teens) were rushed to the hospital for siphoning the greywater tank of an RV trying to steal gas, to the guy with a new RV that had a brand new technology (cruise control) and thought that he could just set it and go back and make dinner while the RV drove itself. The flooded house reminded me of these stories. Now, I've done more than my share of stupid over the years, but luckily, I've never been on this level of stupid... So far.

Lol my dad once had his leg go through our roof and ceiling once when he was fixing some of the shingles on our old house. He said he hurt a lot due to the scraps and cuts he got on his leg and also from the awkward position (he was fine after awhile though). Story 1 reminds me of my friends current situation. They live on the second floor of an apartment and do their best to be quiet but if they make the slightest sound the crazy lady down stairs starts slamming on the ceiling with a broom. They've talked to the office (who keep ignoring them) and even tried talking to the crazy old bat but the guy who lives across from her, who is apparently her nephew, threatened them to leave her alone. The real problem comes in that their livelihood depends on one of them who works from home as a call center person or something. All calls are recorded and she could legit lose her job over this stupid crazy woman.
I feel like the people in the water story were trying to scam the company and/or their insurance by having the company flood the house

Its hearing stories like the first that made me paranoid when I lived in my apartment. I was on the second floor and practically tiptoed around my rooms. Every time I dropped something I winced, and waited a few seconds to see if anyone came to complain. I never played my music out loud, only ever using headphones. I didn't even turn the tv volume up very high because I didn't want to be a loud neighbor. anxiety is a hell of a thing lol

That renter should’ve signed up for a gym membership instead of risking a floor collapse. Paying 10 to 34 a month for a gym membership is a whole lot better than a collapsed floor and potentially taking a life or lives and suffering legal repercussions.
We once had an upstairs neighbor who lifted weights. My wife finally called after a week, people from 2 buildings over had already complained, they lasted 2 weeks and the place took 2 months to fix.
Part of my porch rotted out to the extent that when I went to go open my storage unit off the porch, one leg punched straight through a wooden beam. I was able to catch myself by bracing myself on the back of a chair and by grabbing a doorknob so I didn't fall down to the next floor, but yeah. That woke me up pretty quick. Fortunately the property manager was super cool about it and had the whole porch replaced within 24 hours.

Here's the thing about noise and renting. Most cities and apartments have a noise nuisance law/ordinance. Most of the time noise during the day isn't an issue but noise at night is, for my city quiet hours is 10pm-6am Mon-Fri and 12m-6am Sat-Sun.

New fear unlocked!!! I live in a ground floor apartment that was very cheaply built. When we moved in there was no flooring, just plain cold concrete, one of the windows was put in upsidedown, the taps(faucets) were fitted backwards and the was gaps under the doors that lead outside. The place is full of mould and I'm now terrified that my neighbour or her kids could get hurt falling through my ceiling
The way I understand is that the rack and the neighbor came together when the floor broke
For the first story, I would expect the weight rack probably fell alongside the neighbour or before him, considering the floor likely gave out under the heaviest weight first. That means he probably landed on top of the weights.
Maybe the couple watched the movie Water World, and wanted to see if it was cool living in water like that? Or maybe, they’ve just always wanted an indoor swimming pool?

Lol, that first story is a good one. Also, I'd bet good money on the fact there was no language barrier between OP and the neighbour, the neighbour just didn't give a shit. And maybe if the landlord gave more of a shit he wouldn't have lost a floor/ceiling.
I've had a neighbour who complained about me walking in my apartment and using the toilet during the night. Luckily I didn't speak his language, had the sense of ignoring him when walking by and he dropped dead after a couple of years. Either that or he was shipped to a retirement home.

EVen if it happened as you say, with them mis-reading the markings, their absolute refusal to communicate, and confirm the situation, including IGNORING the person knocking on your door, is STILL ENTIRELY THEIR FAULT.

AND the boss went over it MULTIPLE TIMES in their initial meeting, PLUS offered to install the alarm FOR FREE, and they turned it down, because reasons. The Neighbor Fall Through My Ceiling story.
I heard it not too long ago and called BS due to the whole falling through the ceiling with the whole bench press (for some reason it didn't have the part about him being gruesomely hurt) and the neighbor popped up again to bother OP rather quickly after their fall.
Today I stand by my statement that this story is nothing but BS. How does someone survive falling through a ceiling with a bench press landing on top of them? 🤷🏾♂️
Obviously lifting weights in an apartment complex is not very neighbourly. But what kind of crap building was that that this made the flore drop out, whoever build that should be sued as well!

Im living in an apartment complex and my neighbors downstairs are constantly slamming their doors, to the point the building shakes, shes screaming at her kids all the time, her KIDS are screaming all the time, its absolute HELL.

That’s why you see babies and service animals being counted. Unless it’s a massive attraction like the muppets, a CM wouldn’t let 100 people be grouped

I once had a temp. job to roof 1 house. I was told I needed to buy the shingles with my money. I was broke and called the owner explaining why. Turns out the guy above me was trying to pocket around $350. So the owner told him that he had to buy and deliver the materials. The whole time I'm sipping tea and chatting with the house owner and the daughters waiting for my boss to find/deliver the materials. Took him around 3 hours for some reason. I was on the clock the whole time.
I did the same thing when I was in the military. Lived in married quarters that were row-housing. My next door neighbour was military police and liked to party hearty all night long.
One $1500 Stereo receiver (with speakers with 18 inch subs) later, and using the subs with an AC/DC song to knock crap off his walls during one of his "02:30/ we call the MP's 3 times, music back up 3 times displays of disrespect"...- and we settled that. As his place cleared out, we turned down the noise. Interesting that the MP's never showed up to ask us to "turn it down"...
It was funny because the other units in the row-house asked "WTF was that? It shook the whole building" the next day and got a good laugh out of it. I guess I woke the entire street...

I did something in college similar to the ex-military playing Barbie Girl when my dorm neighbors wouldn't stop playing loud rap music when I was trying to sleep (Loud as in the stuff on my desk would rattle since it was against the shared wall oud). Walked to the school store, found a set of flat faced surround sound speakers. I could, and did, press them flat against the shared wall, and blasted a William Shatner playlist I found. Took a day before they got the hint. Which was good because if it went to day two, it was going to be Leonard Nemoy's Bilbo Baggins on loop.
Something similar happened in Killeen TX at a military housing. A man fell through the ceiling while he was in the shower. Naked guy in Livingroom while wife is having a tea. This was in the late 1970's!
I don't think the 2000 gallons in a 3000 gallon tank is an understandable mistake if they went over it 4 times AND called to confirm 4 times. The business did everything they could to clarify the order, but the customers knew less than the minimum required to manage their home, in spite of multiple attempts to educate them from the water company.
You don't need a fancy sound system to get the message across. One summer night, I was sleeping in an upstairs bedroom with the windows open. It overlooked my neighbor's back yard. They had brought out sofas and chairs and set up video projector to shine on the white wall of their house. At midnight, they started screening the Rocky Horror Picture Show, at full volume. I took my cheap AM/FM radio, tuned to the classical music station, aimed it out the window, and turned up the volume to full. Have you heard what full volume on a cheap radio does to classical music? They turned down their music.
