    Excellent info. I bought mine coleman 40qt electrc cooler in 2000. Just replaced my fan motor w oem part from colman. Waiting the full 3 hours to see if inside temp drops 40°F below the ambient temp outside the cooler. Appreciate you posting this video.

    I was just given this exact cooler from my grandparents! No idea how old it is, but I know they've had it at least 15 years. Took it apart yesterday, cleaned the fans, reapplied some newer thermal paste, cleaned my connections and the thing works like a charm! FYI, I did find a fuse built into the 12v connector.

    *great video* indeed man. dig man I love these things and have spent many sleepless nights messing around with em. found 2 similar at this yard sale a few years back. one was physically damaged (top left hinge busted) so i combined that freezer unit with the undamaged model too see if it would be more efficient. Thus, with a power supply voltage of 26 vdc at 10 amps split between both 13/13 Too my surprise it didn't get any cooler? No, however, it didn't take as long for this resigned cooler to reach its maximum low temp. your problem was quite obvious when it comes too any switch mode power supply which has a reference voltage of 12 to 13 vdc +\-- it's not uncommon for a small cap 47 uf/35 to change value in the regulator section due too excessive heat. I have 5 which don't seem to work very well anymore with laptops when it comes to fully charging em. lastly, connected an igloo cooler to a variable power supply and discovered by lowering the voltage to 10 this certainly changes the low temperature threshold greatly. on the other hand raising the voltage to 14.5 at 6.3 amps came with an unexpected reaction for the heat sink developed some frost shortly after supplying the power? I may be on to something here? PEACE!!!

    My 1st Igloo 18 can 12v cooler was about $68.99 and lasted 15 years - Igloo stop making it and had to buy a bigger one for twice the money and the POS didn't last 5 years - Not the same quality of Yesteryear - I got a RoadPro 12v bag this time for half the money - So far so good 🤞

    Can't believe 25% of people who viewed this find it bad - I mean, if you don't like it, don't bother rating it and make your own and see if it's any better! Good job Howie.

    What is the identifying info or part number of the Peltier Chip?

  • @TheSlimCognito
    @TheSlimCognito 6 лет назад +1

    If you are crazy enough to try it like I was, you can add an additional peltier. Cold side of outside unit thermally connected to hot side of inside unit creates a super cooled peltier. If you do this, it is not recommended to use the heating function of the cooler anymore though. But who buys a cooler to keep stuff hot? |__Cooler inside__Heat Sync-C/H-C/H|-Heat Sync|__Outside
    By doing this you are required to modify the cooling system for the outside as it generates a bit more heat. I used a small PC fan about 2 inches wide to help tunnel air into the other fan and screwed it right to the plastic housing.

      Did you actually test this when done? Mine is usually about 40 below ambient colder even just 10 degrees would be a game changer.

      @@stoneyswolf yes I tested it. I ran that cooler setup for almost a year.

    I have a Coleman cooler...older style as it's over 15 years old..it's still running strong. I bought a 2nd cooler a few months ago thinking it would last just as long. Ah..NOPE. The motor completely quit. I need to do some research to see if it's worth repairing or to just buy another one...different brand maybe.

    Hi. I replaced my Peltier module and it gets hot/cold...but it still doesn't cool the cooler? Any ideas why? I used the thermo-grease, but maybe it was too thick?

    You might not have the answer but my model doesn’t have these hot cold indicators. Do I just have to make sure I plug in the 12 V the right way?

    I have this one. I was told that i needed to put a bag if ice or frozen water bottles in order to cool. Is that true or is this supposed to get cold without any ice in it?

    Thanks for the video. I took mine apart to change the thermal grease. There is a thick black sealer between the peltier cooler and the body of the cooler. Anyone have any recommendation on what to use as a replacement when I put it back?

    Do you know what that little thing attached to the peltier is? It's covered in black goo. Right next to the module by the heat sink.
    I just replaced mine but the new one didn't have it. Should I use that with the new one or toss it?
    Thanks

    Thank you very much for this very helpful video! I have a question: our fan is working fine, the power supply as well (I conclude so as the cooler is the same in the car or in the house i.e. with two different power cords), and when I make the cooler work, the metal plats in the outside and the inside are a little cold (on the inside of the cooler) and a little hot (on the outside). However, the cooler does not cool much... very far from minus 20 Celsius as they claim. I was wondering if it would be worthwhile changing the electromagnetic paste and if I do so, if I should remove the old one before spreading the new one? Thank you very much in advance for the additional help! Josee

    I appreciate the video mate, I got given a “Porsche cool-bag” that has a peltier system in it, it looks unused, and I plugged it into my cars 12v socket and it doesn’t work, the socket works because I can charge my phone from it but not the cooler, I don’t want to go pulling it apart, as I looks like I’ll damage the bag it came in, any ideas ?
    How would I know a dude is not working?
    I can see the mechanics and fuses through the air vent

      I think you can look up your cooler brand and model number and find a manual online, it should give you part numbers for different pieces of the cooler. I know with my cooler, it has the model number on the bottom of the outside.

    • @briteidea08
      @briteidea08 6 лет назад

      I have a different model of the same brand. They do okay if you keep the vents clear. Also if you keep your cab cool. Also keep them out of the sun. These in no way a refrigerator. I use mine for long car trips. Usually I'll throw an ice pack in for good measure. A cup of ice will help in a squeeze.

    • @Thumper7818
      @Thumper7818 6 лет назад

      In a truck these are what most everyone uses for refrigeration. They cool to 20 degrees below ambient temp, so if you keep the cab 68, it should be 48 degrees inside the collar. Yes, try to keep it out of the sun and blow the vents out occasionally when you're at a terminal. They will kill your batteries if you leave it running with the truck off

    not sure how much impact it would have, but I would replace the bolts between the hot and cold heatsink with nylon (or similar) bolts that don't conduct heat between them.

    • @TheSlimCognito
      @TheSlimCognito 6 лет назад

      Nylon would melt. If the heat is not properly dispersed then it will climb a few hundred degrees very quickly. It might not melt them completely but they will warp at the very least. Plus they do not expand and contrast like metal so they are likely to break.

    I had a question for anybody that might know the answer to.does it matter which fan is on either side of the cooler when it's running?I ask because there are two RUclips videos I have watched and this video has the " grey color " fan on the outside and the "tan colored" on the inside of the cooler... however, on the other You Tube video it was the exact opposite

    • @serdiefgotreb
      @serdiefgotreb 4 года назад

      It depends on your specific model! The color is only so it looks nicer on the inside, besides I believe the inside fan is more protected against humidity and such!!!
