grip fighting! I have a habit of allowing my opponent settle grips on me, then trying to deal with it, would love to see some content on grip fighting. Love the channel and your instructionals - they have made a huge impact on my game.

Always excellent content. Tinoco strikes me as a very intuitive teacher and has an easy way to make things user friendly. Increasingly stuck on this channel. Big Osss Tino!!!! Thank you very much. I’m a 50yr 2 tip white belt.

I remember that when I first started bjj, I already understood that my strength was a fickle friend when it comes to fight situations. Strength does not equal skill.
So I asked the coach at the end of class to teach me that in a way that my body would understand even deeper than my mind. He was a bit taller than me but 2/3 my weight and gym lifts about half of what I do.
Arm drag to the back to rear naked choke. Elapsed time: 3 seconds to tap.
    I have never forgotten that.
I don't always do it perfectly or course, but one thing that helps me to be a better partner on the mats is this idea I came up with around that time:
It is impossible to beat someone who genuinely wants you to succeed.
If you tap them and they want you to succeed, they win when you do.
You win, but so do they, so you didn't beat them.
It means that you take out the inequal stance of getting a tap. Instead of getting excited when you tap someone else out, you can be excited when someone else taps you out.
Leave the competition for the competition and when you are training, train.
As long as you learned something, there is no loss. When you eliminate the idea of a loss, you take away the ego trip.
One of my favorite rolls was with a purple belt 10p guy from New York. Half my size. Tapped me 9 times in 6 minutes. Great time and so much to learn.
2 years later, we rolled again and he tapped me 4 times. We were both excited about my progress.

More… in my opinion, if you add proficiency in techniques from every position, this is essentially a black belt checklist. Great stuff. Throw that in a pdf and it would be a great review/reminder I’d look at prior to every training session. Ossss!

Regarding the question. I wonder if that might be an interesting idea for content. I know Bernardo is really good about using questions in his videos.
What about a video that helps build good patterns for that? Teach a technique, then have the uke ask questions, maybe use that for a segue into a defense discussion?
I don't see that too much. Sometimes with two black belts doing a collab. I think Chewie and Jordan did one or two like that. I don't think I've seen much where there is a black belt teaching and a white belt or blue belt asking questions. You could even do header cards for it to split into chapters.
Could be a fun experiment for diversifying your channel and letting it stand out.

Hey Marcos, big fan of your channel. Visited your accademy a year ago or so. If you could create short videos on each of the twelve points you just listed that would be great . We all hear some of those pints but very seldom actually know how to address it .

I wished I knew the traditional submissions are the most important submissions and that the fancy stuff is a nice to have way down the line, but accessory. Mastering fundamentals is a must.

I got my blue belt and spent the first year learning defence and the second year mostly just basic movement. I couldn't gramby or invert and now I can do them in my sleep. I worked on trying to perfect every warm up and basic movement we do and added really no new "moves" as such. I've won my last 2 competitions easily and give most purple belts I've been able to work with a real problem now. I wish I'd focussed on basic movement from day 1. How to effectively turtle, how to effectively escape back, etc

I've been focusing on defence, as per Danaher advice, for over a year now, as a white belt. My defence, in general, is now pretty good. Definitely not perfect. So now, at 56, I can defend fairly well against even some young (30 YO) purple belts. I've now switched to focusing on attacks, while maintaining my defence. Having specific focus for 3-4 months helps me improve, I believe.
