I don't think people understand the concept behind starlink. Guys it is for areas with slow internet connections, there are areas, even in the developed world where people do not have easy access to super fast internet. This is either due to infastructure limitations or the fact that there aren't enough people living in one area to constitute installing fiber optics. Some people also do not live in a conventional house and lives in the middle of nowhere in some cabin. I am only commenting this because people are saying "not impressed, i'm getting 900mbps with xfinity" or some shit. This shit isn't made for gaming.
90% of these commenters have no idea why this product exists and it shows. It’s not for people who live in cities. It’s for people in rural and country side type areas where there’s no such thing as local internet providers or even phone service providers
Please state what Starlink do you have? Business, Residential only, residential with remote, RV?? RV is first to get limited, australia RV is currently not limited, there is a map that shows this. 3rd party speed test are normally quicker than starlink. Ive been using starlink for nearly a year 1st gen satellite dish 100-280mb download/ 10-25upload everywhere east coast aus.
Also, us iranians are living under extreme censorship. 90% of websites are banned. This is going to help us Though we are also poor af so we can barely afford it
Fascinating insight into Starlink across the week. Quite a wide variation in download speeds (although all are pretty fast). There was a fair bit of variation, but I'd put this down to your varying your location each day. The upload speed is pretty disappointing though.
The wide variation is because the bloke clearly never did a fair test in grade 8 science. He changed his location every time, did tests at different times, LITERALLY GOT A NEW DISH IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK and he did the tests on different devices with different SPEEDTESTING APPS!! (The Starlink Speedtest is the worst one you could use as it is always way lower than what the speed actually is for some reason. Always use ookla )
@@theharbingerofconflationbetter to say throttled like any bandwidth Limited system. My down and up run just under 2gbs. I've got a beast of a home network combined with fiber, and it's just $55 a month. Basically this internet is for rural applications. Most people who made the dumb decision of leaving a city for the more cheaper country setting didnt know internet is basically non-existent. Starlink is big for these customers Now for the basic comcast connections in towns that is almost rural is only 300 mbps by the time you get it to your device your getting 175 so starlink is pretty good when you compare apples to apples
So I really need this. It was so hard to find a starlink speed test haha. I didn't care what the generalized latency was, I wanted to know the actual upload latency. I've been using a 5G internet at home, and yes the download speed is great. The latency is fine, but the upload latency is garbage. For most people it's not a big deal. most wouldn't notice. But if you run a small business with servers (like me) or you're my Fiancee who is a big FPS gamer, you'll 100% notice. It actually drives my fiancee crazy because the latency is so horrible. So, knowing that Starlink has better upload is really good to know.
This is not a very good test for you then, he's testing it off of the residential plan. You're going to want one of their business plans, they offer both higher upload bandwidth (25mbs, ping 20-50) and a static IP. The residential plan doesn't offer static IPs and the most upload bandwidth I've ever heard of is 15 for it. Sadly 25 is their top, I don't know if it's them holding it and Reserve to maintain control of their satellite or if it's a actual limitation of the satellite size but I've not heard them break 25 up outside of the company itself connecting.
@@raymisuto9872 Thanks a ton of the comment. I genuinely appreciate it. I've still not gotten it majorly due to the upload cap. 25 mbps upload is not a great amount of bandwidth for a lot of real server use. But I did contact their business sales reps and have gotten some info on my specific area. But it's a lot of, "test it and find out". Which I may do, but it's not exactly fun or desirable to test out their setup only to have to pack it up if it doesn't work.
How you’ve tested this doesn’t really make any sense. You going in your backyard 100ft away from your router is testing the router, not your starlink connection.
Good information. Cheers. I appreciate the Tesla info as well. Yes some more starlink stuff would be great. Im contemplating joining SL for our new house....the question I'm posing to myself being, on balance is the expensive monthly fee and higher speeds better value than the download speeds I'm paying for now?...I dont know just yet.
I found my brother's Starlink router in his attached garage pointing 180degrees in the wrong direction. Once we turned it around his speeds in the rest of the house increased dramatically. So my advice to Starlink users is just to ensure the router is pointing at your main use area.
Your right. Shocking how many people don't understand that wifi speeds and Internet connection speeds are a completly desperate thing. Best advice would be to check speeds cabled into the router, if your wifi speeds are significantly slower, then it's not an issue with the Internet connection, and you need to invest in a new wifi setup.
Doing a speedtest on wifi will show your wifi speed if it's slower than the actual internet speed so this test you're doing may not be indicative of starlink's actual speed.
Do you have 0% obstructions? Just got mine and the lowest I got was 1.5% because of some tall trees. And haven't been able to really test it because I'll need to mount to the roof of my house. That should be done next week.
What I noticed is, that I get different speeds in the Starlink app, and useally a faster speed when I use the official Speedtest app by Ookla. Do you or any have the same experience?
The wifi being too far away is your phone's capability, probably not the router for anyone concerned. If your phone sees it, the router is likely strong enough, but your phone isn't strong enough to send it back.
It's important to understand you guys... this internet is excellent for someone who really doesn't have any other options. From what I can tell as long as you're pointed towards your primary use area and properly have the dish set up it will absolutely work pretty flawlessly. The speeds will vary wildly, yes, but the point is they will be usable. I would never expect this to get as fast as gigabit fiber but then again we've seen more amazing things happen in the world. If I had no other options I would switch to Starlink in a heartbeat. 😂
This is usually the case on most consumer Internet connections. With that said, he performed all tests on wifi which could be bottlenecking the speed, so you should take his tests with a grain of salt. All you know is it's at least as fast as his speed test, but could be much better in reality
And when you’re where this was designed for. Aka in the mountains and desert and middle of nowhere, where there is zero phone service and internet providers. 150mb/s is 150mb/s better than nothing at all 😂
My country doesn't have starlink available yet. But, after seeing these speed tests, I'm not sure if buying it in the future would be worth it. 25ms latency, with around 100-200mbps download speed and only 12 mbps upload speed. ground cable internet providers are able to give 2ms latency, 100-200mbps download speed, and 50mbps upload speed at a cheaper price and without buying super expensive hardware. I think starlink is better to be used for mobile data and not home wifi, but they're not able to do that right now.
